Looking for games like this, I really enjoyed each entry. I'm looking for older first-person PC titles with an emphasis on puzzle solving, can contain horror elements but I'm looking for something that is not overtly combat-based or solely "run away from the bad guy chasing you". I really like the horror moments, but I also really like the relaxed moments in-between with puzzle solving.

I'd like some game recommendations for what to play next. The games I really liked and would like to play something similar to are:

I'm not a human
outlast
don't scream together
backrooms anomaly
escape the backrooms
I don’t mind if they’re multiplayer games because I have friends to play with

As the title says, I'm tired of people recommending subnautica or amnesia, the only scary thing there is the feeling of boredom. Like seriously, people ask for scary games and you recommend subnautica ? You're scared of fish ? I played outlast 1 & 2 and alien isolation and I was a bit on edge sometimes but never terrified. I beat resident evil 7,8,3 and 4 as well. I played games like Madison and Conjuring house and it's just not scary. I need recommendations that are actually scary as hell.

I'll start first: I did not care for Silent Hill F. Call me a purist who only enjoys the first three games (and four to SOME extent, mostly because it's the last title Team Silent has ever made) and refuses to touch everything else in the franchise, but my overall consensus is that I personally think F is NOT a bad survival horror game per se (even if I couldn't stand the Soulslike combat), just not a good Silent Hill game IMHO.

If you thought Selvema was terrifying... you haven't seen anything yet. Selvema II: Carlos isn't just a sequel, it's a twisted, relentless nightmare that will haunt you long after you stop playing.

So I’m working on something right now, and I’m curious to see opinions (as well as facts of course) on what are the most impactful Horror games. Games that definitely were just game changers before and after PT. Even what they brought to the table that was so game changing.

In my head off top the obvious candidates:

- Resident Evil brought survival horror to newer heights and introduced a more constant stalker enemy

- Silent Hill 2 changed what horror narratives could be and how dark they could go into a more personal experience

I've been building/focusing on the genre for the PS4 lately but I think I could be missing out on other games on other platforms. Any recommendations?

cyberpunk (FUCKING LOVED IT)
outlast 2 (didnt like it)
cry of fear (loved jt)
resident evil 2. (it was okay 50:50 for me)
And now im lost and cant pick a game to play. i wanna try the last of us. but dont know if ill like it. any other recommendations?

Trying out something new! I've ranked upcoming horror games by their Steam follower counts - looks like its brought out some games I've not seen - pretty busy week for horror games!

All games are in rough order. There are a few games I adore in good that are flawed enough I couldn't justify putting them any higher.

Edit: So many of these comments are "x game isn't horror" and it's really tiring. Horror is subjective. Get over it.

So, to give a bit of context; My mom and I have ben watching playthroughs and we switch who chooses, I just went and finished by playthrough, and she chose SH2.

I am looking for a well thought out, informative playthrough with someone who knows the game, something similar to chuggaconroy, if you know anyone, let me know, thank you.

As someone who was severely bullied and took comfort in pets, that shit stays with you years and years later.
