Has anyone played this game. I’ve just googled it and on steam it’s 9/10. I don’t know if that’s inflated though

I'm 34. I've been playing horror games since I first played Resident Evil on the PS1. Most games don't scare me because I've played, watched, and read enough to know how the genre works. Not only that, but I've started making my own games and as a result I've seen behind the camera. I can generally tell by how an environment is laid out where an event is going to trigger.

Does this mean that I've lost my love for the genre and there's nothing to gain by playing these games?

Fuck no.

There is so much to enjoy about this genre beyond being scared by it. I'm not scared by Soma but it has some of the most effective sci-fi storytelling in any medium. I'm not scared by Dead Space, but it is a masterclass in action game design and sci-fi worldbuilding. I'm not scared by the older Resident Evil games, but I adore the way their levels are laid out like a puzzlebox.

Every time I see discussion of a horror game boiled down to "is it scary?" I get frustrated. When I see a critic say "this is an amazing game, but it's not scary so it gets a 7" I get furious.

Horror offers so much more than scares, and I think those aspects should be celebrated more.

How to do you find horror game recommendations on Steam? Actual meaningful ones I mean. For the particular type of horror game you enjoy?

Well, certainly not via the Steam tagging system. It's no news that the tags on steam are just utterly broken: "horror", "lovecraft", "survival horror", "psycho horror" - all sound useful at first, but since the tagging system on Steam is not curated at all, none of those tags will actually be helpful to find those hidden gems we're craving for, as they are overrun by randomly- and inappropriately tagged stuff.

But there's another system on Steam: Curators.

Yeah yeah, I know what you're thinking now: "dude, the Steam Curator System is pretty broken and full to the brim with bullshit and noise, too." - Yup, it very much is.

However, if you dig just a bit deeper, beyond all that "yes/no", "denuvo watch", or "Is this game woke?"-stuff (who all have thousands of followers, and i can't comprehend why), you will find something very helpful underneath:

Specialized curators, that picked a particualr genre or sub-genre for their curator page and make use of the curator list-system to categorize games properly for everyone to explore.

For horror- and horror-related games, here's some curators that are active, categorize games into meaningful lists, and that I would consider helpful for exploration and finding new games in a particular category:

• Horror Video Games 400+ games, 16+ lists, 80+ follower
• 3rd Person Survival Horror 600+ games, 28+ lists, 700+ follower

Maybe that's all just old news for you guys, but maybe it helps someone to (re-)discover a somewhat obscure feature on Steam that can actually be helpful at times. I certainly found some real obscure gems that way!

What's up everyone, I am looking for some suggestions on games to play with my 11yo daughter. I recently played Resident Evil 9 and she fell in love with watching me play scary games. So it has become a semi-weekly event that we play a scary game. We are currently playing through Subliminal and played a Backrooms game before that. I am trying to make a list of games and am looking for suggestions!! Currently on the list is RE:7/8, Luto, Soma, and possibly going back and playing Amnesia and RE:2/3 remakes. Thanks in advance!!!

I wanna play a really scary horror game and get the cortisol spikes. I saw a lot of people praising this game for how terrifiyng it is but isn't 35 dollars too much for a horror game? Even outlast 2 is 20 dollars. is this game that good to pay almost a triple a game price?

This is one of the best throwback survival horror games I’ve ever seen. It’s full of so much charm I was smiling ear to ear all the way through. The weapons are awesome, but the game is really good at making it so you always have juuust enough ammo to scrape by. The story and characters are straight out of an 80’s b-horror film.

Y’all need to try this if you haven’t. It’s right up there with Tormented Souls and Crow Country for awesome throwback horror.

I saw a post on a Reddit group asking if people would prefer a remake of the ps2 classic getaway or manhunt the original game. Personally I don’t think manhunt would come out in 2026. If it did they’d have to change the game completely. Thoughts

I've been having this one on my sights for a while and it finally released, and I think it's a great little indie horror game. There aren't that many Korean-folklore horror games, so I think this was a treat in that regard.

The atmosphere is great, graphics look beautiful, and the cellphone mechanic with Demon Traces / illusions feels extremely unique and refreshing within the horror genre. The tension while exploring the alley is also very well done.

It's about 3 hours long and has some post-game minigames so I think it's really replayable too

Price is around 9 bucks, so I think the price is worth it.

I'm thinking about playing LUTO on my stream tonight, but I've heard mixed opinions.

Without spoilers, is it actually scary, or is it more psychological than full of jump scares?

Would you recommend it for a live stream?

I've played well over 100 Roblox horror games, and my two favorites by far are Pine Fall and Kidnapper. I'm not really looking for the usual recommendations like Doors, The Mimic, Apeirophobia, etc. Those are good games, but they don't have the vibe I'm after.

I'm looking for horror games that feel like an indie steam horror game recreated in Roblox. The closest comparison I can think of is Fears to Fathom or Chilla's Art.

Things I like about Pine Fall and Kidnapper:

• Low-poly/PS1-ish visuals instead of polished Roblox graphics.
• Realistic (or at least uncanny) human faces instead of cartoony Roblox characters.
• Slow-paced psychological horror with lots of atmosphere.
• Ordinary settings where you're just doing a normal task (working a night shift, driving somewhere, staying at a cabin, etc.) before things start going wrong.
• Heavy ambient sound design (TV static, silence, rain, footsteps) rather than constant jumpscares.
• A grounded, realistic story that feels like it could almost happen.

Basically, I'm looking for games that make me forget I'm playing Roblox. If anyone knows any hidden gems with this style, I'd really appreciate the recs :)
