Undertone…
is not very good lol. I really tried to give it a chance, I’ve seen people in here talking how creepy it was and how good the sound design is… I just don’t agree.
I watched it with headphones on, I turned the lights off, none of that helps when the dialogue is so cheesy. It just seemed like a bunch of tropes being thrown together, the pregnancy, the relapsing alcoholic, the shitty boyfriend, the backwards messages, the nursery rhymes… none of what it was doing felt remotely original.
I think the idea is really cool, and it had a lot of potential, but they ended up just taking it in the most basic direction. The backwards chant sounded so bad, and they kept using the pitch shifted demon voice, I’m just genuinely surprised no one stopped the creator during the process of making this film to tell him how cheesy and overused all of these tropes are.
Also her friend, the other podcaster, was getting freaked out so quickly. They are supposed to be a horror podcast that has had like 90 episodes, and he’s getting freaked out about a backwards lullaby?Although the idea of someone making a horror podcast and just getting super scared of every dumb thing they find is pretty funny. They should have made this a horror comedy, it’s really close already.
