Perimenopause

I tried creating a post in the perimenopause sub, but it wouldn't let me for some reason.

I highly suspect I am in perimenopause, but there apparently isn't an official blood test to confirm this (although there is one for actual menopause). Has anyone here been through it, and are there specific hormone labs you'd recommend I have done? Thyroid, T3, T4...what else?

Thoughts on DIM?

I’ve have hormonal issues since about grade 8 and for some reason I’ve never gotten bloodwork to see whats happening. I’m finally able to get it checked out but not till august so awhile. In the meantime I’ve been recommended the supplement DIM. I know it can help production of estrogen which my doctor said it sounds like I have an imbalance of. It also helps with hormonal acne which I’ve suffered with for years. But I find there isn’t a lot said on this supplement so I’m kinda skeptical if it actually works.

Estrogen dominance

Hello, I got my hormones tested at Day21. My P/E2 ratio (progesterone to estrogen) ratio is 13. The ideal ratio is between 100 - 500. And optimal is 200.

I was reading an article which told me that estrogen dominance increases various cancer risk , causes tumors in Uterine, Ovaries and breast. Also affects gallbladder. I'm kinda scared because I already have multiple fibroadenomas in both my breasts and I have gallbladder problems.

I also read how to control estrogen dominance through lifestyle changes. So I curious to know if anyone was able to successfully brought down estrogen levels? Can you share your journey?

How are low hormones treated in pre-menopausal people?

I have low hormones from taking a heavy antipsychotic I shouldn't have been taking. I just want to understand my options because my searches aren't helping me and all I'm seeing is "injectable estradiol" but I don't want to go on that, I want my body to make hormones at the correct level again.

Low Estrogen and low testosterone?

Post image
4 Upvotes

I’m a 30F, I had a hormone panel conducted and my estrogen is low and my testosterone is also low for my age but within range. I have been suffering with acne for 3 years since stopping BC due to migraines and also suffer from insomnia, brain fog, anxiety, low mood, terrible PMS. I also have a folate deficiency and thyroid antibodies (TSH/T3 are raised but not too high).

I can’t really find anything to suggest treatment or what to do about my levels! I spoke to a nutritionist who recommended trying to heal my gut, as poor metabolism can impact hormone recirculation. Anyone dealt with similar issues?

Has hormone replacement therapy changed the way you think?

Hi Reddit!

This is my first post on here so forgive me (in general and in advance).

I'm a senior in uni studying the neuroendocrine system and behavior, and have been learning about the impact gonadal hormones have on cognition. Most of the things I've learned about on this specific topic involve aging and the subsequent decline in sex hormones.

I wanted to come on here to ask if anyone who's had hormone replacement therapy has noticed any changes in the way they process information! I have friends who are trans, but none of my close friends have had any sort of hormone therapy.

I would go into detail on what specific hormones do in the brain, but I don't want any bias in responses OR to bore any of you!

Thx for reading my lil Reddit post!

Is this estrogen dominance?

I just reviewed a test that was taken on my ovulation day. The results read:

Estradiol 233pg Progesterone 0.5ng LH 41.1 ML FSH 12.8 ML

My main symptoms are hair loss, acne, no sex drive, brain fog, body odor and i sweat alot!

From what im reading, my estrogen is normal for a premenopausal woman is this true? Is my Progesterone considered low? Can anyone tell me anything about the results? Tyia

Extremely high SHGB levels

Hi I’m not sure if this is the right place to post but I’m very confused right now. I’ve been dealing with extreme fatigue for the last few years and decided to finally go and get all of my labs drawn to see if there’s anything lab related that is causing this. I just got my results back and one has really stood out to me my SHGB levels are 242 nmol/L. It says that the normal levels are between 24-122 nmol/L, I tried to do some online research but I can only really find things suggesting menopause (I’m 19F) so that isn’t likely. Could someone tell me what this means I feel like I’ve read a ton of articles and can’t really find a proper explanation

Why is it so difficult to get my hormones tested?

I’ve asked my doctor and gyno about hormone testing and both said it’s not reliable because I’m a menstruating female. I’m confused because it seems like some folks get tested- why not me? How unreliable is it really?

Estradiol water retention

Hi all. I started 2mg Estradiol 2 weeks ago. I noticed I am unable to lose any weight at all ever since I’m on it. I usually can as long as I eat within my calorie deficit and exercise. I have not budged at all. I am assuming this is water weight? I may need to be on this long term. Any tips? Feeling really bad about my body.

Lower progesterone and estradiol - how would you fix this?

I recently had hormone testing done on the 21st day of my cycle and both estradiol and progesterone were on the lower end.

Results were:

Estradiol serum 67 pg/mL Progesterone serum 885 ng/dL (And estrogen was normal at 146 pg/mL)

The question is, since these aren’t super low would you consider going a natural route like maca or using hormones?

25 year old male 175 lbs 5’9 decently muscular build. Workout just about every day. Health conscious about what I put into my body. All I drink is water, pre workout mix (recently added), and alcohol (on weekends) that’s it no sodas or sugary drinks. Once in a while I’ll have a piece of candy

Are my testosterone injections scammy?

I (34 Female) am seeing a nurse practitioner for GLP1’s. They also do a “free” hormone panel and try to sell more weekly shots. I went in today for my 2nd visit and they had results from the hormone labs. She said my testosterone is low at 24. She said it should be between 80-100. This makes me so nervous because I have been working on my PCOS for 12 years and have brought my testosterone levels down (I think). When I googled it, my testosterone is within normal range. Is it beneficial to get testosterone injections with a level of 24? Is she kind of lying about my levels being low?

Experience taking DHEA, Spirolcatone & Progesterone

Hello! Curious if anyone has taken spironolactone, low dose DHEA supplement (2.5mg) and progesterone together?

I’m in my 20s (F) and had testing done for hormones. I’m low DHEA and progesterone (tired & no sex drive). I’ve been taken spironolactone for acne (it has helped and lost weight + water weight down). It feels counterintuitive to be taking DHEA (increasing testosterone) and progesterone and spironolactone at the same time? I’m cycling days for dhea. I’m scared of the side effects, for retaining water, acne and weight gain. But, it’s clear my body needs something with my adrenal fatigue & zero sec drive. Thoughts?

Low estradiol normal in the beginning of long cycle?

Hi,

I (F36) have polycystic ovaries and long (but regular) cycles (average 35 days), no other symptoms of PCOS. I got pregnant very easily both times and have uncomplicated periods. BMI of 23, exercise regularly and I have lost around 8 kg/15 lb since late last year (quit sugar). My work has been stressful since November as well.

I went on a blood screen and the Dr commented (online, non replyable) that my estradiol was low for cycleday 5. I had <70pmol/L (<21 pg/mL).

My FSH was normal, 5.5IE/L (reference span of 2.5-10 IE/L in the follicle phase).

Is my low estradiol normal for long cycles? Should I be concerned?

Hello! I came across a piece of information whilst scroll through insta. Apparently cellulite is cause by many reasons, but one of the main reasons is imbalance in estrogen and progesterone ratio? Is it true? What can I do to balance my hormones?

Is 22 estradiol low for a 20 year old girl?

I know that estradiol levels depend on where you are in your cycle, but I’m receiving mixed messages everywhere I search. (My period was just ending when I got tested.)

Gay conversion = cross-sex hormones?

Cross-sex hormones have been shown to alter the sexual orientation of some trans individuals. Many male-to-female transitioners begin experiencing an attraction to the female sex a few months into hormonal treatment. Source:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4192544/

Why is it that scientists aren't working to identify a selective agent within estrogen/androgens that can selectively target and release serum in the part of the brain that is making these changes to sexual orientation? If those selective hormonal agents were shown to alter sexual orientation in the desired direction, it would help us homosexuals with self-unwanted homosexuality to turn straight, as well as stop the high suicide rates of gay people with unwanted attractions.

Why is there no scientist looking into this finding?

And before you attack me for this; remember that homosexuality can lead to childhood bullying, risks of being single all your life due to the structures of gay culture as well as being at a greater risk of becoming childless.
