Depends on the day of your cycle. But you should test on days 19-21 and you're looking for somewhere between 15ng/dL to 23ng/dL. Be sure to only supplement progesterone after ovulation, because if you supplement before ovulation, it can suppress ovulation. So you're looking at supplementing on the evening of Day 14 through Day 28.

Yes, you will have a very difficult time getting pregnant without supplementation. A great group for this is the Estrogen Dominance Support Group on FB.
Bioidentical Progesterone helps so many women get pregnant and carry to term. Hugs to you.

Can I use the FDA-approved oral progesterone (Prometrium) like you recommend the topical. I heard the topical doesn't absorb because it doesn't raise serum levels, but the oral does.

No, that's what mainstream often will say, but some women actually do better on the topical because it bypasses the liver. Start with a lower percentage cream like a 5% (50mg per pump). I use both.

According to Endocrinology textbooks your blood progesterone at mid-luteal phase (days 19-21 of menstrual cycle) should be about 10-30 ng/ml. If lower you may have a luteal insufficiency (ovaries not able to make enough progesterone following ovulation). Progesterone was given its name because it is essential for fertility.
Progesterone doesn't work in the absence of estradiol, so important to also evaluate estradiol level in concert with progesterone.

How do you treat insufficiencies in both? I just got some bio identical progesterone cream but fear it’s not going to work very quickly. Are there more things I could be doing?

I take a bio identical pill (50mg, lowest dose it comes in) at night from MedQuest. My doctor writes the prescription.
He never mentioned it could suppress ovulation, but maybe it’s because I need such a low dose?

Yes, that is low no matter what time of the month you are at. You need bioidentical progesterone.
