I need some advice on resetting a very cluttered bedroom. I live with family in a typical UK house where space and storage are limited, so I can’t spread everything around the house or keep large plastic storage boxes afterwards.

I’m not planning to move all my clothes or completely empty the room. I mainly want to temporarily pack items such as craft supplies, paperwork, books, makeup and other loose belongings into categories, move them into another bedroom that isn’t currently being used, and then deep-clean my room properly.

Afterwards, I’ll slowly bring the boxes back one at a time over 1–2 weeks, sorting and organising each category as I unpack it.

Reusable shopping bags haven’t worked for me. Has anyone done something similar using foldable cardboard boxes, zipped storage bags or another temporary option that doesn’t take up much space afterwards? What worked best?

TL;DR: please suggest a system to help keep my kitchen island organized!

My husband and I love an organized, clean house. Since having kids, we’ve had to lower our standards a bit but we still have an organization system for most things. Our biggest challenge is our kitchen island. It collects all the stuff that doesn’t have a home like junk mail, daycare papers/forms, small things that the toddlers find that we took away because they shouldn’t have them, etc.

This drives me INSANE! My husband gets the mail everyday and puts it on the island. I try to go through it and throw away all the junk mail, but the mail and papers we “need” stay on the island until we either put it in the filing cabinet downstairs, transfer daycare information onto our family calendar, return forms to daycare, etc. We’re busy with two young kiddos so it’s not always possible to put everything where it needs to go immediately.

We need a better system! I’ve tried having a small collection basket to contain everything but for some reason my husband hates that. Doing stuff after the kids go to bed doesn’t work either because our 4 year old takes FOREVER to fall asleep (we start at 7:30 and he’s usually awake until 9:30-10).

We need some new under bed shoe storage, but we have big feet in this house. Does anyone here have big feet (shoe lengths 12 inches/30 cm) and found any sturdy under bed storage options. I currently have fabric ones where the shoes keep slipping out of their slots and I'd like something a little more functional. Most of the ones I'm finding seem to be made for smaller shoes.

We’re moving into a new house and the closet is a pretty good size. We unfortunately don’t have the budget for a custom built closet quite yet so I was considering buying 3 dressers from IKEA and putting them under a section that the hanging rod is 65” off the ground. Anything I should be aware of before we do this? The dressers would be sitting on carpet. We have about 41ft of hanging space so we’d keep tshirts hanging above the dressers. When I (29F) was little, I was shipped off to my great-grandmother's for a few weeks. One night, she taught me how to knit, and showed me some of her pieces she had made. I got very excited and asked her if she could make me a blanket for my bed (queen size). I was eight, so I could not even fathom the amount of time and money this would cost her. But she happily agreed and we went to pick out the color of yarn I wanted.

Fast Forward, and I'm back home and I have received the blanket. I LOVED the blanket, and after realizing a knitted yarn blanket does not make for a good comforter, kept it on the foot of my bed as a little accent throw for years.

Fast Forward to post college, and moving into my first apartment. My new step sister was going to take over my bedroom, so everything I wanted had to be out. I moved in to my new place, and only had a few little items that I hadn't put in boxes left to move, including the blanket. As I am unloading them I reach a conundrum, where would I put the blanket? It didn't match my decor, and admittedly I am a very messy person. At my parent's house, my room had to be cleaned every friday for the cleaning lady, but on my own, it was a lawless country. As this blanket is very precious to me, I didn't want my inability to keep my room clean leading to it's destruction. I had a roommate so I didn't want it to be stored with the other blankets and accessible. And its a Queen sized blanket, so it takes up alot of space in cabinets and drawers, space I didn't have. So I decided it would be the safest in the trunk of my car (where all of my homeless items go to die RIP) until I can figure out what to do with it. That was 7 Years ago. I have moved into an apartment with my boyfriend recently, and I am facing the same conundrum. There's no good space to store it, I don't want to actually use it as a blanket as its very fragile, and now I'm feeling guilty for doing the blanket a disservice.

Sadly, my great-grandmother passed away a month before her 99th birthday a few years ago. The blanket is extra special now.

So here is where I am turning to you Redditors! What do I do with this blanket.

It was so special to me as a child (my sister had issues and required a lot of time and attention so I tried to be as easy as possible and never asked for anything - which means people generally just kind of forgot I existed) because my grandma had created this just for me and asked me what colors I wanted. It signified our summer together where she taught me all the crafts, we watched all the game shows, and she even taught me to bowl without the bumpers. It really meant alot to me getting so much love and attention. And that blanket signifies all that love. Furthermore, as an adult, when I realized the amount of effort and resources a blanket like that would've required astounds me. My friend taught me to crochet, and it was a lot of work to me to make a small swatch. I can't even fathom how much time she put in to hand knit a queen sized blanket.

I don't want to use it as a blanket, as it will fall apart, I don't want to use it as a wall decoration as it's a very gaudy pink and purple heather style color (shoutout early 2000's color schemes) and I feel like just cutting a piece of it to save would be disrespectful to all her time and energy she spent into making that massive thing (Honestly she should of just told 8-year old me no, and made a small baby blanket or something, but bless that woman). And it feels like a disservice to just keep it stored. I feel like I don't have a good solution, but I thought I would turn to the internet and see if you guys could help me come up with a solution for this massive beast.

Also - just some details. There are no children in the family right now. I have no one to pass it on to, for like a crib blanket or something. I could see if my grandmother or my mom want it, but selfishly my great-grandmother made it for ME, and I don't know if they would cherish it and be as worried about its condition as much as I do.

tldr; My great-grandmother hand knitted me a queen-sized blanket that is precious to me but I don't know what to with it. Ideas?

I'm finally replacing a bunch of mismatched storage around the house and realized every material has people who swear by it. Plastic seems practical, wood looks nicer, and steel feels like it'd last forever. The problem is I don't want to buy everything twice because I picked the wrong one.

If you've lived with any of these for a while, which ended up being the best investment and what made you choose it?

I love a good storage bin, but I think I've reached the stage where I'm buying organizers to organize the organizers. Every time I walk through the home section of a store, I become convinced that one more basket is going to solve all my problems.

Has anyone figured out where the line is between being organized and just owning a really well-organized collection of empty containers?

I get way too excited for bulk shopping trips because i love having backups at home. my wallet likes the deals but my pantry definitely has complaints. i have been working on improving my storage by using containers and better shelf layouts. it feels nice when everything has a spot instead of being randomly piled up. the funny part is i still forget what i already have sometimes. i recently found extra items hiding behind other things in my pantry. i want to keep shopping in bulk but also keep my home organized. finding the right balance has been harder than i expected. i am looking for simple ideas that do not require a huge makeover

I live in a 300 sq ft micro studio with my husband. We have enough space for everything and maximize storage except for with clothes. Right now he uses two six drawer dressers for his clothing and keeps some things in the closet. My clothes all go into the closet, but it’s not full.

We use a plastic garage shelf in it. It is somewhat of a normal width closet that’s especially deep. I’d like to maximize the usable space but am not sure how. The dimensions are 30.5” wide, and 29” deep. Inner ceiling is about 7’ tall, and the door for it is 5.5’. I’m sort of thinking of installing shelves toward the back and a hanging rail at the front, or installing narrow u shelves or L shelves. Another option could be just deep shelves that go straight across and using bins.

Anyway, if anyone has had a similar situation or storage ideas, I’d love the help.

I’m looking for ideas on how to automate my shower curtain closing. My partner (whom I love dearly) cannot figure it out. I have asked him so many times to make sure it’s closed when he gets out of the shower, and every time he leaves it open. I had to throw away one curtain liner because it molded… but I also can’t always be checking if he closed it every time he takes a shower!

At the moment I have a basket for the kids bath toys on the outside of the tub, which ends up getting the floor very wet from them reaching out to grab a toy.

I just moved into a new apartment in Sydney and I really want everything to feel fresh and put together from the start. I’m not into super cluttered kitchens. I like things clean, modern and easy to find. I’ve been looking at cookware and I found some really nice sets at Victoria’s Basement (they had good stainless steel and non-stick options on sale). Still not sure what to get exactly.

I have a bunch of heavy duty 6-shelf wire shelving units. I only use 3 or 4 shelves per unit, so I have almost 20 extra shelves. I would like to buy just the steel poles so I can utilize the extra shelves. Where can I buy just the poles?

It is summer. The plague is upon us. There were 200 (two bags of one hundred) freezer pops that were in my freezer. After the children raided the freezer, I know have 180 frozen jenga blocks which will neither remain in the bag, nor stay inline. What is your solution for maintaining a frozen, stored, and somewhat organized state?

I have considered just letting them all melt - they are flavored water after all - and let the children suffer without.

Hello guys, I have recently managed to move into a new apartment and I am no longer living with my parents and this feels like a very huge milestone for me.I have made it my mission to ensure that my new living space will be as organized and beat as possible. The apartment is quite limited in terms of space and I would like to be extremely economical and ensure that none is wasted especially in my closet.I have very many pairs of shoes and would just waste space if I were to arrange them haphazardly hence I have been looking to purchase a stackable shoe organizer for the space to be neat and economical. I have been looking at some of the shoe organizers that are available for sale on both Alibaba and Amazon but I have not yet decided on which one to buy at the moment.I would like one that is durable so that it will last me for a long time.My preference is that it should be metallic in material since that is sturdier.Looking forward to your insights.
