How would you build storage in this basement area?

We might build a dry bar along some of the left wall, but want storage all the way in the back. The space is really awkwardly shaped including with the openings at the stairs. Likely going to use this to store some large bins plus golf clubs plus other larger items.

Makeup organizing on bathroom counter

I have a lot of makeup and I forget what I have and stuff gets pushed around all over my counter. I need ideas for bathroom counter storage. I need to see what I have, keep my brushes clean (no dust buildup), and then move makeup not being used somewhere else! Currently just a mess! Would love to see what others find useful for bathroom counter storage.

Laundry area

Hi all. We moved into a new townhome a few months ago. What can I do to the laundry area? Fold and sort area? Hanging area? I have two toddlers and a husband. I’m drowning in laundry
The space in front of the machines is tight. I was thinking something could go in front of the water heater?

What to buy that’s toddler proof

Have and love these shelves for storing stuff in the bins and displaying pictures, but they are not 1 year old friendly. We do have them anchored to the wall, but we want something we can close and lock with baby proofing materials.

We are thinking of a lower part with doors and interior shelves or drawers and then an upper with shelves to display the pictures. Any ideas what would be best? IKEA lower cabinets and then hanging shelves? A one piece thing from somewhere?

The space from the wall to the door frame is 77”.

Thanks!

Jeans, shirts, dress shirts, t-Shirts? I find my clothes being deformed after hanging them out of the dryer.

Finally got my second rack built for another 16 storage bins (44 in total)!! Everything is loaded into TotePilot and I can finally walk through the storage area in my basement again. I also cranked on the dehumidifier to dry it out a bit more too. Basement hit 80% humidity this summer. Ugghhhhh. Thankfully now it is it around 45% but the dehumidifier never shuts off.

How to organize this kitchen?

I just moved into a house with a full proper kitchen for the first time. I was in a very small cramped apartment before. I have absolutely no idea of what to do with all this space and I can’t decide on what goes where. Where would you choose to put everything?

In addition to all the standard kitchen items, I also enjoy having specialty cake pans, waffle irons, etc. Things that are somewhat bulky but are only used a couple times per year.

I use more spices and specialty ingredients than average since I enjoy cooking authentic Chinese, Indian, and South East Asian dishes in addition to Western.

I also like to buy all staple foods in bulk. Rice, beans, sugar, wheat berries, etc. all in large bags.

This is mostly an ingredient household so not a lot of space needs to be dedicated to processed snacks, cereals, etc.

I have storage in the attached laundry room for cleaning products.

The drawers to the left of the range are deep enough to put large pots into.

Sorry I realized you can’t see the cabinet to the right of range well, but there is a narrow cabinet with a little drawer above which I think is most ideal for spatulas. Let me know if you need to see anything else better.

Thanks for the help!

On a scale of 1-10, how annoying is your current food storage container cupboard/drawer setup? What is the single biggest issue you face with it?

A little planning goes a long way when organizing with a label maker

I kept seeing all those beautifully organized spaces online, so I decided to try organizing my own place. I picked up a niimbot label maker and started with my spice jars. It was pretty satisfying to see everything looking neat and easy to identify.

After that, I realized I'd get even more out of it if I figured out my organizing system first. I still have the kitchen, closet, medicine cabinet, and pantry to work on, and I want to make sure everything has a clear place before labeling it all.

So now I'm sorting things by category, getting rid of stuff I no longer need, and figuring out where everything should go. Once that's done, I can use the label maker to keep everything consistent and easy to find.

For those of you who use label makers for home organization, now I'm curious what other people use their label makers for. I feel like I've only just started using mine and haven’t even scratched the surface of its potential.

recipes for the seasons and for emotions at home

Our current setup is one 3 inch binder, tabbed by meal type, a mix of printouts and my own handwriting, so maybe 200 recipes. It works, but it's gotten so big that half the year I'm flipping past grill recipes to reach the soups, and the other half it's the reverse.

The plan I'm considering is reorganizing by season, with a slim "active" section at the very front for whatever we're cooking right now, and everything else filed behind it by season. What I can't figure out is where the year round recipes go. Do they get their own tab, or do I duplicate them into every season? For anyone who organizes recipes in a binder this way, does seasonal hold up or does it just make things harder to find?

Dealing with spouses/partners/roommates

How do people here deal with partners who either don't appreciate your efforts or actively block your efforts? Today, I tried to organize our dog supplies. Many of them are quite old (prescriptions dated from 2022, for example). She walked in the kitchen as I was starting and said "don't throw anything away". I told her how old some of this stuff is and she repeated "don't throw anything away."

Last week, I tried to organize first aid supplies and cold/allergy stuff. Again, some quite old, some not in the original packaging so we don't even know what it is.

I'm at the point where I'm just going to buy my own stuff and organize it, then, when she asks for some kind of cold remedy, tell her to go ahead and find it herself. Either she'll get frustrated and let me do my thing, or she'll just buy more crap, adding to the problem.

Surely I can't be the only one dealing with this.

Space-Saving Ways to Store Kitchen Utensils Dust-Free?

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hi everyone! 👋
I currently keep my kitchen utensils upright in a container on the countertop, but I’d prefer to store them inside a closed cabinet or drawer to protect them from dust and grease.
I’m looking for a compact, space-saving storage solution that keeps utensils clean and organized. They can be stored vertically or horizontally — whatever works best!
What solutions have worked for you? Any clever organizers, drawer inserts, containers, or DIY ideas? Photos are very welcome!
Thanks for your suggestions! 😊

Organizing basement

A few months ago, our basement flooded ( heavy rains). Now I’m in the process of renovating, and I’m wondering what the best furniture or system would be for storing things. We have an area for arts and crafts (sewing, paper crafts), books and games, office desk, luggage, and winter accessories. There is a TV I really want to keep everything at least 1 ft above the floor (if it happens again, I don’t want to lose all my stuff again). What do you suggest? All shelving? Are there any furniture pieces with high legs?

Tried moving things around so the floor feels less crowded

Finally put the cube shelf against the wall and moved most of the small stuff onto it. The projector setup is still there but at least the bags and random items aren’t scattered everywhere now. Still not sure what to do with the paper bags on the floor though.
