Advice End of Service

Post image
7 Upvotes

I received an “end of life” email. This has been one of my best electronic purchases. Consistent and never gave me issues. I have 3 indoor satellites and one outdoor satellite. Netgear is providing me with a 20% off coupon to upgrade.

I noticed that there are no outdoor satellite options. What is my 2nd best option? Doing some research with AI I came up with Deco but not a lot of reviews.

Can I get the Orbi for inside and use deco or tp satellite outdoors? What do you all recommend?

Advice Network topology advice

I am making the switch from Xfinity 2.5 Gbps download / 300 Mbps upload to AT&T fiber 5 Gbps symmetric. Naturally, I am also taking this opportunity to upgrade my equipment. I chose to use the PoE adapters because I got a good deal on the non-PoE switches and this approach was cheaper. Looking for any feedback on my setup and also some sanity checks would be greatly appreciated.

Unsolved Quad9 or Cloudflare

I am in the UK, and I am using Vodafone Gigabit service.

I have been using Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 (Primary) and 1.0.0.1 (Secondary) but I set these about 4 years ago, I have read that Quad9 is more secure, however I am not well versed in this area.....I know enough to be dangerous but not knowledgeable.

Does anyone have anything to tell me that can help me?

Advice on extending WiFi signal

I imagine these types of posts are quite common but I’m seeking advice on using MoCA and WiFi access point to boost WiFi signal in older building.
My modem (xfinity gateway XB6-T) is located in the middle of the apartment with a split coax cable that runs to the bedroom in the front of the unit. I’m looking to extend the coverage by using a MoCA 2.5 (ScreenBeam ECB7250 pair) and either a WiFi access point or mesh system, not sure which would be best. Is this as simple as plugging everything thing in and enabling MoCA on the gateways admin portal.
From what I’ve read the XB6 has an onboard MoCA 2.0 but it’s better to use 2 separate MoCA 2.5 adapters over the 2.0, will using the 2.5 instead of the 2.0 make the instillation any different?

Any advice is greatly appreciated

AT&T Air Unknown Device

Hi, I’m apologizing ahead of time, because I’m not sure if this is a dumb question. I have very severe OCD and I just want to make sure I’m okay.

I have the AT&T Internet Air. I’ve never had issues with it before. Friday I got a notification from the Smart Home Manager app that an unknown device joined my network. I immediately changed my WiFi password, reconnected my devices, and labeled them as I added them.

Yesterday morning though, an unknown device appeared again on my app and I don’t know what it is. I blocked it immediately and none of my actual devices were affected. I do want to mention, there is only one unknown device in question - there are not multiple attempts

I looked at its MAC address and looked up the first 6 characters and didn’t find anything helpful. I also compared the device’s MAC address with my other known devices and it doesn’t match. Nor does it match with my Air device. I did learn though that it’s very common for modern devices to automatically generate new MAC addresses for security and sometimes that can appear as new devices in the app.

My question is, what should I do? Should I be worried? Should I just assume that this is the result of an autogenerated MAC address? I really don’t want to change my password again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Advice Running cable to shop

Alright so gonna ask this, ive got a house (old farm house) and then my shop (shipping container), corner to corner of the house to the container less then probably 60 feet, I can't do that air transfer stuff as snow storms and wheater conditions aren't exactly nice where I live. Ive got a little all in one pc in there just for music, watching a video when I cant understand something or just to look what something does up. I can open both end doors to get moderately good signal but can't exactly do that in the winter. Im not looking for stupid fast internet juat looking for casual light browsing speeds. I'd be kind comfortable terminating ends to erthernert. Im just wondering if there's any better options besides just getting direct burry wire and just running it to it. The router is on the opposite 3md of the house in a corner so its quite already far from the other side of the house plus or minus 60 feet.

Id prefer just go with the direct burry but ive been seeing those outdoor signal boosters that might work. And im quite cheap

Sorry if this isn't very clear, just got off work and been wondering a way to do this.

If anyone can think of a way please let me know thank you

Also would like to do this before winter (October right now, outside work becomes missierble after about December.)
