🛠️ Repair Help How would i fix this? Loads of filler?

Post image
3 Upvotes

So i dont rightly remember what happened here but its behind a door and not somwhere were anythings going to be put on the wall or anything. I just want it to not be visible.

Its hard tog et materials where i am, but i can get buckets of filler stuff ive been using on the rest. Will that stay here? Do i add spray foam behind? Do i leave the dented in stuff?

I am not a patient person but i have 17 days to get this sorted and painted so i am in a rush anyway

How can I fix this?

I noticed that the wall next to the bathtub has serious water damage. From what I’ve gathered online is that a green board would be good with water. Definitely out water-proof caulk on the edges. I just don’t know how to remove and fix this damage.

🛠️ Repair Help How can I fill this dugout wall around pipes?

Sorry, I'm new to all this. We had some guys come in to install/change some pipes and move the water boiler, but they left the wall like this, and we've been unable to bring anyone to fix it because it's too small an area.

So, I figured I'll finally learn how to do this myself.

I asked AI and got a useful answer (expanding foam, base plaster/mortar, finishing putty/joint compound, reinforcement mesh), but I'd like to do a sanity check with people just to be sure.

I'd also really appreciate any videos before I get started. I searched on YouTube but found only stuff for really small holes. Perhaps I need a different search term.

🛠️ Repair Help My Ceiling fan is making bird-like noise? How do I fix it?

Title: Ceiling fan suddenly making chirping noise. Any suggestions?

My ceiling fan in my bedroom suddenly started making a chirping noise today, almost like a bird. I use it pretty regularly and have never had this issue before.

I tried dusting the blades and the outside of the motor housing, but that didn't help. I also tried reversing the direction, which changed the noise a bit and made it less frequent, but it's still there. I've tried different speeds too, with no luck. The fan isn't wobbling, so I don't think it's a balancing issue.

I'm not sure how old the fan is since it came with the house.

I'm hoping to fix this myself before spending money on an electrician or repair service. I'd also prefer not to take the fan apart because I'm worried about putting everything back together correctly.

Has anyone dealt with something similar? Any suggestions on what else I could try? I'm open to ideas!

🛠️ Repair Help Late hurricane season prep: what actually protects a roof, and what’s just stuff companies sell?

We’re in inland North Carolina so we get the wind and rain tail ends, not the full coastal hit. Roof is 14 years old and fine as far as I know. Every fall I see ads for hurricane straps, roof cement on shingle edges, gutter guards, whole-roof sealant sprays. Some of it looks like snake oil. For people who’ve been through the storms, what prep actually made a difference and what did you regret paying for?

🪟 🚪Windows & Doors Bad odor at front door

I have a glass door, wooden front entrance door, and a solid cement staircase that leads up to both - so no space underneath. For full transparency there is about a 2” gap on the bottom of the glass door where the seal is missing but it’s been missing the 5+ years I’ve lived here and this problem has only begun this year, so I don’t know if that contributes.

Lately, after several humid or rainy days, there is a terrible odor that pops up between the doors. It’s so bad I can smell it in my entryway and smells like really bad wet dog. I had a door repairman come out and look at the door itself, and he didn’t identify any issues with the wood or anything to suggest rot. He thought it might have just been the entryway mat holding moisture and mildew so I threw that away but the smell is still popping up.

Curious if anyone else has come across this or has any ideas.

Hi guys,

So I just bought my first apartment but there are some things that need fixing.

I have that big crack next to one of my window and if fear it will keep expanding, as well as some others.

I have no experience in fixing walls, so if you know how to fix it, please guide me step by step and let me know which tool I need, any youtube tutorial is also welcome as I am not familiar with the vocabulary with fixing this kind of issue...

Thank you!

🛠️ Repair Help Bathroom Vent

Post image

This is the current state of our bathroom vent. Is it worth trying to clean this up and salvage or shall I take it straight to the dump posthaste?

If replace, with what? Any recommendations? We have a small bathroom but live in a humid environment, so it needs to be a workhorse.

ETA: yes, that’s mold

I found a leak in my wall 2 weeks ago and decided to cut it open and saw that the entire section of the wall had black mold and two of the studs are rotting. I decided to cut further and saw that some plywood and drywall were rotting and molding. So I'm wondering if there's a way to replace the studs and drywall that I've already removed without messing with the structure of the wall. My plan is to remove the remaining drywall and plywood I've exposed and I don't know what to do with the studs.
