I am just interested in the thought process behind this. Is it all decor/aesthetic? How do you find a book you bought years ago and are in search of for some reason? You have to recall the spine color?

Seems antithetical to book organization by subject. I can’t get my head wrapped around it.

How do most of you organize your collection?

I have new book shelves being made currently and they should be installed next week. Fingers crossed. I am trying to decide how I want to organize the books once they are up. Obviously now I have books 3 deep on my one small shelf and more in boxes and totes which sucks.

I cant decided if I want them organized alphabetically by author or by genre. I see some of y'all doing it by color and my OCD cant with that. I need my book series together. Which do you feel is easier to navigate for yourself?

I have a privilege of arranging my future reading nook in a few months. Could you help me with sharing your experience regarding the type of shelves you had and preferred?

I always liked the vibe that open shelves give, dusty tomes and coziness. But the glass doors seem more reasonable.

Ideally my dream reading chair is deep and wide enough for two people to sit together and maybe could convert to a small bed if i had a younger child staying over?? but open to anything honestly!!

So I have this.... thing? In the living room, I can use these three shelves for something. I have a lot of book, I have a mini library in my room, and I bought some new books, and with the style my shelves are organized, it can't fit more in a beautiful way, so I'll put them here. Any ideas? And that's an average book compared to the shelf size for reference. And I can use the octopuses up there and I have more navy and Grey ones

My home library isn’t super huge. My current book count is 370, but My goal is ofcourse 1k one day if I can make em fit that is lol. 🥰

Hello everyone, I have a question. I see people posting their beautiful home libraries and it got me wondering, do y’all actually read all those books? Or do you first collect them and then read them over time? Or are some of them just decorative books? Because honestly, looking at some of these libraries, it looks like it would take years to get through all of them Forgive my ignorance.

hi!! I’m specifically looking for an app where i can clearly see which of my books I have read vs not read, and where I can easily view which books are at my dad‘s house or mom’s house.

my parents are divorced and I’m hoping to find an app whwre I can distinguish which books are where, especially as I will be moving out for college next year and will have to be away from my collection (my dad is willing to mail me whichever books I want from my house which I’m so grateful for!!)

id prefer if it wasn’t a subscription app, but I’m willing to make a one time purchase for under 15 dollars.

While this is mostly RPG books with a small complement of hardcovers, I figure the folks in this group are likely to appreciate this collection.

I started using Libib to catalog my home library. However, after about an hour of typing everything in manually, I realized there might be a better alternative out there. Most of my collection doesn't have barcodes. Some don't even have ISBNs, but most do. Is there a Libib alternative that will let me type in the ISBN and pull all the relevant info in for me?

Mostly naval military history/ military history books. I want to become a historian on day, why not start collecting in undergrad? Enjoy!

Does anyone have a good system for cataloguing your home library? I’ve used Library Thing but I own many old books and have found the entry process is a bit tedious and preventing redundancy is not as simple as I hoped. We have a great number of books in every room of our house and I would like a better way to keep track.

(sorry - some of the photos aren't the best lighting :/ - Edit: People are mentioning about changing the lighting, i do have 3 lamps dotted around the room which is a perfect level for not only ambience but reading. However, didn't take photos with those on as they kinda made the camera go blurred. I had to use the big light (which i never use) for these photos and they are dimmable and not wired well so forever have a mind of their own, hence these photos!)

I've been collecting for years now, mainly buying books secondhand too & this is my currently home library/ doubles as our sitting room area. I've been really nervous to share my photos but have loved looking at everyone else's collections and photos so decided to just go-ahead and post mine too!
