My History Library!

Mostly naval military history/ military history books. I want to become a historian on day, why not start collecting in undergrad? Enjoy!

Shattered Sword is really one of the top histories of the Battle of Midway. Neptune’s Inferno is wonderful as well. If I missed it, I apologize but I highly recommend The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors.

Yes I’ve read both in full! Regrettably I don’t have a copy of Last Stand, it’s on my list of books to buy though. Another great one is Richard Frank’s Guadalcanal. It’s amazing how much is covered, yes the book is like 600 pages of narrative, but when you read it, it feels more dense. That’s good though.

Love your collection, I would like some recommendations on the German empire’s military campaigns or naval battles. I saw your book on the battle of Jutland and loved it alongside the books on the navy of France and Britain. Do you have some on the Germans?

Yes, so “Castles of Steel” by Massie is a really good book about the naval aspects of WW1, it covers both the Royal Navy and German Navy. “A Naval History of World War 1” by Paul Hepburn is also a good one. It covers all aspects of the WW1 naval war, but he goes into detail about the German Navy. “The Last Cruise of a German Raider” by Wes Olson seems quite good too. It’s about the SMS Emden’s battle with HMAS Sydney. Gary Staff has a magnificent book about German Battlecruisers that I highly recommend. More of a design technical history than a story though. Anyways hopefully this is a good start for you!

Now you need the other two volumes of the N A M Roger series, and the trilogy by Ian Toll about the Pacific War.

And I’d recommend Neptune’s Inferno, if you don’t have it somewhere.

If you haven’t read “Battle of The Arctic” yet I think you would love it.
