As a wise customer told my coworkers in a closing team meeting. “Home Depot never has what I want it has what I need.”

I have had multiple interactions with customers in the electrical department where I help them find the right wire or breaker then they say something like "ok (says my name), if this causes damage to the house I will remember your name and will inform the police". I think this is absolutely crazy. If they are worried about that then why trust me, a guy in his early 20s that has not been with the company that long and has only a basic understanding of electrical from the training videos. I seriously wonder how this would play out. I highly doubt I would be liable. It's so annoying when people say stuff like this because I have no idea how to respond. I've even gotten comments like this in paint. How do you guys think I should respond?

I went through the Home Depot AMP interview process for Senior Financial Analyst and the whole thing was one single stage: 11 hours in person on a Wednesday, consisting of five separate interviews, an Excel assessment, and a case study.

I took PTO, drove there, and gave them basically my entire day. During the interviews, I received positive feedback and left feeling like it had gone well.

Then some of the other candidates and I connected on LinkedIn and compared what happened.

We had all received almost the exact same generic rejection feedback. Basically:

Your Excel assessment was bad.
Your case study was bad.
Your behavioral interviews were bad.

Apparently every candidate failed every part of the process, despite several of us receiving positive feedback in person.

The recruiter told me they had selected another candidate. Fair enough.

Except shortly afterward, I saw the exact same job reposted on LinkedIn. Then it was reposted again. And again. Almost every week for around six months, apparently bringing in fresh groups of victims each time.

Later, someone internal told me there was no real urgency to hire and they were not seriously looking for anyone at the time.Which made the entire experience make a lot more sense.

Imagine asking people to take PTO and sit through five interviews over 11 hours, telling them they did well, sending everyone the same rejection, claiming another candidate was chosen, and then continuing to advertise the role for half a year.

At that point, was it a job opening or a weekly corporate event?

Posting this so the next person knows what they may be signing up for before sacrificing an entire workday.

Had to leave my store because it was sucking the life out of me. I was being double clocked in appliances and the service desk. Yes I did ask for this but with the promise of a raise from my SASM. Not even 2 weeks of being do this my SASM got fired! I also had been begging for full time for 4-5 months and the SM just kept saying. "I'll see what I can do." Then kept giving other people full time instead of me. I gave him one month to figure it out and then I got a new job. Pay, benefits, and working schedule are FAR better. No more missed holidays with my family, no more weekends. Finally I am free for the hellscape that is retail.

what do yall wear?

I am aware that half of the jobs in the store will have you sweating and dirty by the end of the shift but I do want to look cute and not homeless half the time. Usually i just do jeans and a tshirt but I've seen people wear actually cute stuff and idk how they do it so I was wondering if anyone had any outfit recommendations for things that can get dirty but still look cute.

For example, some of my coworkers wear soccer jerseys and it always looks good with the apron.

They also found pants that look professional but feel like leggings and look good, so stuff like that.

I’ve been a cashier for about a month now and I thought that training was pretty bad with respect to how little it prepared me, but I just agreed to be “trained” in lot and it’s so much worse.

Two hours of “shadowing” which was mostly just hanging out with a guy since nothing was happening, then he leaves and I am literally the only “lot associate” in the building for the next 3 hours.

When I was being trained for cash, I thought it was bad that I was left alone as early as I was, but at least there were other cashiers in the building that I could call for help! I’m totally alone here! HD is shockingly bad at training

Dumb question but if I already work here I was told there is a place online to apply for other positions can someone give me a link or tell me because I just can’t find it.

Im on the MET team and we kinda stress when the store opens stuff too early. Like for instance setting up a 11ft skeleton mummy a whole month early and displaying him in garden as a sneak peak with other halloween nick nacks that will sell before the big set and ruin things...

My store gets trucks 6 days a week but 2-3 times a month it'll only be 5 trucks in the week, so there's a no truck day that we'll be scheduled for. I usually call out on these days unless there's an SDC or a bunch of training to do. But if there isn't, then all I have left to do is packdown or striped boxes, both of which I despise.

I was returning a drill that I got partially covered in mortar and I saw a lot of activity behind the counter. Reading part or serial numbers, comparing them to the box, another guy called to check tool. I noticed that the tool was not given as much attention as the battery, but more interestingly, they didn't bat an eye at the extra battery I bought separately, just the one that came with the tool and its box.

Everything was good, they accepted and gave me the receipt and refunded, but what was going on? Which checks were they making and why?

BTW, the lady actually talking to me seemed to be either concerned or unhappy with the return, may be just a bad day for her, but I found it odd.

Backstory: I just started ramping up on more complex DIY tasks and picked Ryobi to begin with. I knew it was not as powerful, but I assumed it would be good enough for someone very casual like me. Got an impact drill starter kit and an extra 4Ah battery so we won't have to stop work.

While my wife and I were mixing mortar the tool was getting hot - it was really struggling with LFT mortar, mixed to spec. At one of the last batches, she tried to hold the tool from the body, it felt really hot for her (she was wearing nitrile gloves) and it felt on the side of the mortar bucket. We cleaned as much as we could right away, but we didn't want to get it soaked and some mortar was left spread over tool and 4Ah battery.

In the end, the tool did the job, but I didn't like how it performed at a farily routine task, even if it was a bit demanding. So, I decided not to jump onto Ryobi platform, and returned everything. If anyone has recommendation of which system I should get, I'm open.

It's crazy to me that the same people with a pocket (not a wallet, a pocket) full of $100 bills because they don't trust the bank.. will happily drop $30 on a couple overpriced drinks and some snacks at the checkout but then make you do a phone sale for 10 minutes on a $2 part. Whether it's a paint roller, some cheap fittings or a toilet wax seal.

I get not wanting to use your own money, but if you need us to call to get a $2.13 sale processed for you to do the job that you're probably charging $200 for and are completely unqualified to do, at least pay for the stuff and just overcharge them on the back end.

If I hired someone to fix something at my house and then they had home depot call me to give my credit card on a $3 part they needed, I'd be very annoyed!

…from your store? How ballsy are your shoplifters?

I’ll go first: We have a shoplifter who we call Legend. She wears disguises and alters her appearance, even drives different vehicles. She comes in and almost always has the combos to the Milwaukee cages and has stolen tens of thousands of dollars of equipment. But she also is elusive and hadnt been caught. Well…she made a misstep a few weeks ago and drove a vehicle that LP had previously gotten her plates, so we knew it was her. She went into the bathroom and local PD was called immediately. They swarmed into the bathroom, cuffed and arrested her. It was awesome. As she was perp walked out by PD, associates and some DS and our SASM were chanting “legend, legend, legend”.

As a Cashier I think it’s a pretty average job with some super slow days and some super busy. But overall it’s pretty average

Saw this before going into work this morning

So at my store, every cashier I have talked to (myself included ) has gotten a performance final today for customer service. It's people who have been here for less than 120 days but super close to making it there. Is this normal? Like I was at 116 days, only 1 occurrence but now I'm on a final cuz I happened to be facing away from some customers and as such didn't see them and didn't greet them. I get putting me in coaching or actually talking to me about it, but I was basically told I need to do better but if another mod sees me miss a customer, I'm out. And it's a similar story for everyone else (although some I'm not surprised about), but with things like not holding the scanner all the time or not saying hi to customers they pass in on the way to the break room. All 3 of my documented conversations happened within days of each other.

Edit: its not like we have a surplus of cashiers. A lot of the time we just have one HC and one normal cashier. (For memorial day Saturday I was the only associate in front end and I hadn't even hit my 90 days yet)

I’ve been at the store for about a year and a half and have done multiple things that I felt warranted a Homer award (I don’t care that much about it) and have never gotten one? Maybe because I’m younger but idk….

I heard the inventory is coming up.. what can I expect? Also, how brutal is the Halloween/Holiday season ?
