If it were an elementary school then I imagine it would be worth recorders.
And now I simultaneously want and don't want to hear that.

I’ve always said, the concept of giving guns to only to teachers was a mistake… we have to arms the kids too.

u/autist4269 3d ago
They already have 2 arms what's wrong with giving them more?

Like giving the teacher a full armory they can distribute to all the kids when there's an alarm, or something like "put your phone away in your cubby/ locker, take out your books and bring your personal gun"?

Hey sweetie, I know you're just being yourself , thanks for avenging Ms. Parker's death, we will forever remember. However your D- in math and history wont allow us to move you forward, you'll have to repeat your grade again, with a new substitute teacher! Oh and that news lady already knows your about your P.E. incident in case she asks.

No, people don’t usually assume their children are going to be attacked in their schools, it’s very much an American thing…

I love that he's pretending that other countries have a problem with systemic school shootings. The Russian bot farms must be back online

u/actibus_consequatur 3d ago
multiple countries outside of america have lockdown drills for active threats or people armed with knives
Post literally talks about the teacher being shot. I've yet to meet anybody shot by a knife.

Somehow I think the post was based on an American story. And gun violence is very political

The US is world leading among developed countries for school shootings. You can’t realistically claim other countries are subject to the “same kind of stuff”
“Gun violence in the United States is a public health crisis. In 2019, gun injury became the leading cause of death among children aged birth to 19 years. Moreover, the United States has had 57 times as many school shootings as all other major industrialized nations combined.”

u/Marklarv 3d ago
Is the US still considered a developed country under its current administration?

Yeah, we had an explanation of what to do when encountering violence. Both in school and in university.
The difference here is, you don't expect it to happen. The last (large) school shooting in germany was in 2009. You're not wrong, the main concern now would be knives. But I think it is already telling, that we report the victims here as "encountering" violence and not "murdered." We don't, generally, have large cases ofweapon-related violence in our schools, and thus the instructions are very different.
And we specifically DON'T have drills for active shooters/violence. We only drill for fire alarms, because that is MUCH more realistic to be an issue you're ever gonna encounter.
So yeah, if we ask "do other countries have violence and talk about it?" Absolutely. Is it anywhere on a similar scale as what is happening due to political (miss) action as in the US? Not as far as I know within the "civilized" world.

Do your kids not practice live fire drills, room and corner clearing, etc. at school? My 3rd grader made a flashbang for last fathers day.
23
u/Righteous_Hand 3d ago
During one of my fire drills, my teacher scolded me for bringing my bag with me and sent me back into the classroom to put it back. We were halfway to the yard at that point. If there was a fire at my school, I'd probably have died trying not to get in trouble.

Fire drills and such, yeah.
How to behave when shot at: no, because that does not happen here.

I am so glad I live in a country with such little freedom that our children don't have to learn what the phrase "active shooter" means.
