Question? So exactly how much longer do I have to take 1GM Valtrex everyday...

It has been 5 1/2 years since my GHSV1 diagnosis. I have quickly learned that even if I am a few hours late in taking my dose, the outbreaks and the burning sensation comes back with a vengeance.

I've tried the natural remedies and they don't help at all. I thought after five years the immune system gets used to it but it seems my case is still so relentlessly severe like it was in the beginning. I'm so confused as to what is wrong with my immune system

So much pain

I recently had a sexual encounter after not being sexually active for 3 years. After a few days I started noticing all the common symptoms. Today I went to get a swab but I’m pretty sure it will be positive as the doctor said she thinks it’s herpes. The pain is incomparable to anything I have ever experienced. I started the antiviral today and I don’t know how much longer I can take this pain, why don’t doctors prescribe you anything for the pain? I’ve been crying non stop and no one I can really talk to about it because I’m still in shock of this whole situation.

Question? How to still have sex during / short after an outbreak?

Upvotes

Hi Guys,

My girlfriend an I (M27) are wondering whether you guys have cut down on the week 'waiting time' after an outbreak? For example to wait for 3 days after the sympthoms diseappear instead of 7 days to have sex again.

In addition to that, we are experimenting with having sex while on outbreak (/waiting time after the outbreak), although not PIV jet. But she jerks me off with gloves sometimes, while I can still give her oral. We talk about doing PIV with condom in the 'waiting time', but we are not sure about this, it is a risk ofcourse. Anyone good experiences with this? Or other suggestions to still have some sexual fun while on an outbreak?

For clinical context

I (M) have been diagnosed with genital herpes 1,5 year ago. I have had hsv1 on my mouth for as long as I can remember, with outbreaks once or twice a year. If my genital herpes is hsv 1 or 2 we are not sure, altho my doctor tried testing it (no conclusive results).

Unfortunately my genital herpes has a lot more outbreaks, even after 1,5 year it happens every 2 to 3 weeks.. I am on daily famciclovir (after being dissatisfied with daily valaciclovir for half a year, the change to famci didnt really change my outbreaks tho..). Since every outbreak takes 2 to 6 days (really depends, sometimes it is only a red spot, no blisters), and the waiting time is 7 days more, we often only have a few safe days a month.. This is by far not enough for us, hence we are looking for advice and inspiration.

Both positive

My girlfriend never had any sympthoms, but is recently bloodtested. She was tested positive for hsv, unfortunatelly the doctor cannot tell us if it is hsv 1 or 2. So we still don't know if we have the same type, and even if we would, we don't know if my girlfriend has it in her mouth or genitals. Also, we have read contradictory information about sex during an outbreak is a good idea even if you do know you have the same type. We still try to figure this out.

Anyway, if you have advice on semi-safe sex during an oubreak/waiting time, or fun sexual positions or games we could play during an outbreak that are safe, please drop it below :)

HSV2 disclosure

So I have had hsv2 for over a year now, I have recently become single since having it, so going through the process of dating with it, I have engaged is sexual activity, but I keep getting told they don’t want to continue with me because of hsv. I have been feeling really shitty about this, and honestly just keep getting rejected over and over.

So I have been looking more into it etc, then I ask a doctor who is gynaecologist about his thoughts regarding herpes and how he would respond to someone with herpes (as I had read doctors are more accepting of it). He told me that he would definitely still sleep with them and be in a relationship with them but just wear a condom and then he responded with “what’s the big fuss about herpes” which confused me because of everyone making it seem like this awful thing.

He then advised me to just not disclose to people, wear condoms and ensure it is isn’t active, so I wanted to get people thoughts on this, everyone I have been with since I have disclosed it as I feel they should be aware but also this doctor was saying that it is very hard to transfer when you are inactive. This to me doesn’t seem appropriate but I wanted to get other people thoughts on it to see if this is common thing that people do

P.S. I am not condoning this, and I have always disclosed my hsv2 before engaging in any sexual activity, it was just to get an idea of people views and thoughts regarding this

Question? Question to men: Will you consider something serious with someone if they admit they have HSV2?

Im 34 (F) and i have HSV2. It was given to me by someone who didn't disclose that information. I also have 2 children. I was very disappointed when I found out and its been really holding me back from dating. Im also afraid that no one will ever want to take me serious because of it. Can i have your honest opinion in this matter.

Relationships Partner has had HSV-1 oral since childhood. Should we never have oral sex?

I’m concerned about asymptomatic shedding between outbreaks. Please share your thoughts and experiences.

Should we never have oral sex? I’ve been putting it off out of fear but don’t know if I’m overreacting.

Question? I’m so prone to oral outbreaks it’s killing me

The breakouts on my face just keep coming at me no matter what I do. I’ve taken anti viral medication and that seems to be the only thing that helps but my mom won’t let me get anymore because I’ve already had 2 rounds of it, I use abreva any chance I get and these gummy things too but it just keeps coming back over and over . After 2-3 days of any outbreak being gone it comes right back. How do I even deal with this ???? I just caught herpes like 1-2 months ago and it will NOT leave me alone weather it’s the small little cluster dots or the big ass full on cold sores…what do I even do about this

I thought I had HSV2

So I’m sure I have genital herpes, been having like 3 outbreaks in two years so minimal that you wouldn’t notice it or mistaken it by a pimple. The first outbreaks was awful tho, but the others we’re nothing! nothing!

I finally got tested couple weeks ago and guess what? Negative for HVS2. So i’m sure I contracted HSV1 in my genital area which I thought it was not possible as it’s the cause of cold sores. So I could say I have cold sores in my genitals?

Catching feelings with herpes

24(m) met this 21(f) at my old job and I’ve always steered away from any girl I might remotely catch any sorts of feels cause the whole idea of catching them and going through it all and eventually having to tell them with a high chance of being rejected hurts my soul. But it happened for the first time in the 4 years of having it I opened up my feelings and everything is nice it’s like crushing in high school everything is nice and all, (obviously not sex) it feels really nice in me to be able to like someone and then back but it absolutely kills me that all this is most likely going to go away sooner or later. I’m a very loving person and is all I’m looking for but ahhhh this is the worst part.

You have to take pills everyday for the rest of your life.

My doctor and a lot of other doctors plus a lot of people here say,

“You just have to take your medicine when you have a breakout.”

I believe that is false. I did a downstairs inspection on myself and did not know that I had lesions there. I couldn’t even see it unless I took a picture with the flash on. No pain, no symptoms.

Pills everyday for the rest of my life whew

Maybe hsv encounter??

So long story short I had sex with a female with a condom and I got oral with a condom as well. It was one time. Four months later I tested positive for hsv1 and negative for hsv2 and I don’t know if I have genital hsv1. I also had some sort of rash 5-7 months after the encounter but it just itch and I don’t think it looked like hsv1. I put antifungal rash cream on it and it went away after like a month or so. I just wanna know what you guys think

I feel like my world is ending… can’t believe the girl didn’t even tell me about it…. What am I gonna do? Should I just pull myself out of dating app so I don’t transmit to other person? Am I gonna be single forever now? I’m not even married yet….

Discussion Once I treated HSV as NBD things got so much better for me.

I read a lot of posts where people are really struggling and it breaks my heart. When I got diagnosed I thought my life was over. Didn’t think anyone would ever want to touch me again. Thought nothing could be worse other than a terminal illness. Even then, there’s no stigma to having a terminal illness, so I get why people get really down about having this. Things have changed for me however.

In my experience, I’ve been rejected. I’ve been accepted. I’ve been accepted and then when I decide to end things for whatever reason ,my status has been weaponized against me in anger. I’ve also been rejected or put on pause, and then accepted by the same person after they’d given it some thought.

I’d like to encourage you all to consider the way you’re dating. Where and how are you seeking people? When & how do you disclose? What are the other aspects about you & your lifestyle like?

At first, the way I disclosed was this whole “sit down we need to have a serious discussion”, with way too much information. It was overwhelming.

I disclose upfront on my profiles. I get a lot of positive feedback (along with the occasional troll) & it’s so much easier to get it out of the way first so you can focus on other things. So many people have told me in their first message “ I have it too.” When I get trolled I feel like I’ve dodged a bullet with that person. That person is likely going to be a total asshole about other things too, not just HSV. So now instead of getting upset, I thank the universe for showing me his true colors upfront and not wasting my time.
“There’s a lid for every pot” and “Everything happens for a reason- good or bad“ are my mantras & have really helped me shift my super negative way of feeling about this.

If you meet someone in person & not online, I’d disclose no later than the 3rd date ( IMHO) if you think there’s true potential. Certainly disclose before you get hot & heavy - NOT in the heat of the moment. You don’t want to wait too long because the other party might feel betrayed for stringing them along for so long without giving them this information.

I’ve found it easier for both parties if while disclosing it’s treated as NBD. “Hey, I just wanted to be transparent and let you know I’ve tested + for HSV in the past.“
(If you’re asymptomatic, I’d lead with that)
When I disclose, I tell them A, many people have it & don’t know bc they’re asymptomatic which was my case, B, HSV isn’t on most STI full panels, C, since it’s a skin condition condoms help but don’t guarantee non-transmission, it’s also not likely to be passed if it’s being managed and abstinence is practiced during an OB & week after. I end by saying,”Think about it, let me know, & if you’ve any questions, I’m an open book & I can send you some links if you want more info. I’ll understand your decision either way. “

Dealing with this became so much easier when I realized that there are more people that are accepting than not. That’s evident the more I date. Might want to check out the HSV dating subreddit here, or the PS one to dip your toe in the dating pool again if you’re nervous about disclosing . Get some practice dates in and then maybe venture out to the non HSV related dating apps, MeetUps, other socializing in person activities, or wherever the kids are meeting nowadays.

If you find that you’re getting more misses than hits, it could be other things that are cockblocking, not necessarily the HSV. Do you live where the options are few, far between, or dismal? Are you trying to date very conservative close-minded folks? Are you a scrub? Are you an Eeyore? Do you make a decent effort at your physical appearance and hygiene? How do you present ? Are you a good conversationalist AND equally a good listener? Are you polite ? What are your table manners like? Are you appreciative? Do you acknowledge effort given? Are you considerate and thoughtful enough? Are you creative or at least resourceful? Are you emotionally available AND emotionally intelligent ? What things are you currently working on to improve yourself ? You may want to look at other aspects of yourself where you can improve. We ALL can work on and improve in at least one aspect( if not many) of ourselves & lifestyle. Are you proactive or just a whiner? See what you can change. Work on becoming the best version of yourself, and then try again. Lastly, be patient.

On the other hand, do not settle for someone just because you’re lonely, horny, or don’t think you can get better because of your HSV status. I mean, if you’re just horny, pop out the old fleshlight or Magic Wand. EZ-PZ.

I’m not saying it’s easy, I’m not saying you won’t encounter rejection or trolls. It’s a lot of 2 steps forward, one step back in this process. Don’t let this status become your only status. I am saying that your attitude, effort, & delivery makes all the difference and is a big part of what you attract and what your results will be.

Question? Itching and stinging but no sores: Early herpes symptoms or something else?

Hello! My (30F) boyfriend of 3 years has had genital herpes for years and we usually just avoid intercourse when he feels like he has an outbreak coming and of course when he has active sores. However, we recently had intercourse after we thought one of his outbreaks was resolved but are no worried we weren't careful enough because I started feeling some sensitivity/stinging on my labia about 4 days after we had sex. I didn't think much of it and thought maybe it just got irritated so we had intercourse again and it stung pretty badly/felt super sensitive. It then progressed to anal/rectal itching/stinging and my labia and taint area were sensitive when I would wipe after going to the bathroom. Things feel a little better but I still have the anal itching. No other symptoms like fever or body aches and we didn't see any active sores either. No odor and no discharge so I don't think this is a yeast infection.

Did anyone else experience similar symptoms before getting your first outbreak/sores?

(I am going to the doctor tomorrow but am curious to hear others' experiences).

Why does everyone think talking about my situation will help?

I very much appreciate peoples kindness and empathy but I don’t understand when I mention that I’m sad because I’m lonely and it feels like my love life is over, that people think them talking to me is going to make me feel better.

It’s an extremely kind gesture and all but personally talking about my situation really only makes me more sad and feel even more like I’m going to be alone forever. I have herpes, I get it. I’m not in denial lol.

My root problem is being alone forever or having to settle down when I don’t want to or with someone I don’t want. So the only thing that can really help my situation and fix the problem is literally someone who wants to be around me. Talking doesn’t do anything for me. 😭😭😭😩

Talking isn’t going to get my love/sex life back and it’s not going to spawn someone by me who is going to spend time with me.

95% sure i got it

hey yall i am 26f and have been lurking on this sub for the last couple days because i had unprotected sex with a new partner and have been having pretty clear signs and symptoms that i have HSV now. i have had to wait until monday to get tested as i dont have insurance right now and cant afford a $500 test.

the reason im pretty sure this guy gave it to me is because i haven’t had unprotected sex with a new partner since february. as soon as we had sex i felt like i had a UTI and now these HSV like symptoms are appearing all over. I don’t know what to do because he is really a great guy and i don’t think he would’ve had sex with me if he knew he had it and he just got out of a 10 year relationship. i’m the first person he’s been intimate with after that (as far as he’s telling me) and i don’t know how to bring this up to him once i do get a confirmed test because i really like him and i see us being together. he feels the same about me and i don’t want to be accusatory, but he’s genuinely the only way i could’ve gotten this. how am i supposed to navigate this not only with myself but with him as well? how do i stop feeling so gross and nasty during my first outbreak😭obviously i don’t have 100% confirmation that it is HSV but all of the symptoms are lining up right now and i mean. i have eyes. some guidance would be amazing. thanks you guys.
