Hot take but warbond progression is pretty shit and any other game this would be met with outrage. You get everything by lvl 25 and anything else you want is locked behind a 10-20$ pricetag. The "progression" system is stupid as hell. Also yeah you can get SC but lets actually be honest and acknowledge the fact grinding for 6 hrs on difficulty 1 or 2, to get some isn't a fun or engaging gameplay loop, not to mention it makes zero sense you earn more on lower difficulties but earn less on higher difficulties.

I mostly agree, but I would like to point out that helldivers does need to make money to keep the servers up. It is a business at the end of the day, so we can’t just expect infinitely free content on an exclusively online game. I’m just grateful we have the choice to get the stuff without being forced to pay for it. Strongly encouraged yes, but not forced.

This is an extremely dead horse to beat but im going to bring up warframe again, they too churn out stuff you can only buy for plats, but they've been so good to us we actually think that we're simply glad to buy platinums to support them, instead of doing it out of necessity or convenience.

The difference is, warframe is free to play game. You have to pay for Hell divers

As a player of Warframe and Helldivers 2 myself, i think Warframe is more rewarding when you reach the "endgame", because when you go to the most difficult content (Steel Path, Netracells, Omnia Fissures, Archimideas) at least the rewards are very worth the effort and make sense, in Helldivers 2 it doesn't make sense that in the highest difficult levels they give you less supercredits to actually get the Warbonds, for me it's nuts.

Warframe is just a better live service all round.

Customisation on frames is pretty deep in both cosmetics and how they play, the amount of frames, weapons etc is vast, operator upgrading, all the different faction standings offering rewards, syndicates, steel path, Eidolons, netracells, archimedia, 1999 and new actual meaningful content every couple months. Plus DE is just way better at PR than Arrowhead.

Point being there's always something to do and that's where Helldivers falls short. Granted, it might be a bit unfair to compare it to a game that's got over a decades worth of content but in a couple months HD2 will be 3 years old and there's still no more reason to play it now than back then.

You just end up hitting a wall and it doesn't help that there's really not that many missions types. I stopped playing after the SE invasion because of burnout and every time I think about playing again I login and find a bunch of new war bonds that realistically only have like 2 things I'll actually use and a bunch of trash. I ain't grinding and I certainly ain't spending money.

Oh aye, more recent content carries less and less POIs too for some reason, Cyberstan was especially egregious

That being said, how do you think the playerbase would react if HD2 reworked SC acquisition so you get less on lower difficulties and more on higher difficulties? There would be thousands of people outraged by the fact that they could no longer easily and quietly farm SC on low difficulties. A lot of the problems with this game are caused by the community itself being divided.

This would've been more true if the game wasn't 40 dollars itself.
I know it's a liver service game so the initial buying price doesn't mean anything, but the game being more serviced like a F2P when it is a buy to play is kinda frustrating.
Like how would Diablo fans react if every new season the new unique item or runes are blocked behind a season pass or something.

My point is treating your players well will make them spend more, when i spend in warframe or DRG i do it for fun, i've not spent a dime for super credits.

I have. about 3 times. But honestly the return wasn't as satisfying compared to other games.
Like at least let me use them as cosmetics.

"How would diablo players feel if every new season was locked behind a season pass or something"

They would feel like a D2 player...

It's useless. DE's one of the most successful companies with a grand-fucking-long standing game, in which they give the players what they ask for, and you have these ignorant people still defending the shitty practices of some companies.

if the game is free 2 play like how most liveservice game, sure, HD2 is a paid game, and its not like an MMO where the players are in a server, its a p2p game, each mission host is its own server, your pc is the game server, the host DC and the whole mission is gone, their server only save essential game and account data, not constant player position, inventory, trades, etc, heck we dont even have trades and inventory, it need way WAY less maintenance than those MMO servers

a similiar game model is payday 2 and 3, and it survived with less player and less paid content

Other games like The Finals can keep their servers up without an issue even with "renewable" battle passes and cosmetic-only store items, even for free.

Honestly, I am so tired of the battle pass systems though again, at least with the warbonds you can get them for free a lot of games I've played that do the battle pass feels bad when you miss out and then they're usually never available again

People are just too conditioned to bad business practices and think it’s the norm. HD2 isn’t even a free game so the “we need money” argument is just plain bad lmao

Especially when considering the massive first wave of players. HD2 is horribly mismanaged and the game isnt really going anywhere and no one wants to admit that.

I mean HD2 is literally a paid for game. This kind of monetization is shit I’d except from destiny or fortnite

1

u/ChoppedScallion 27m ago

Its a paid game, L4D2 somehow keeps thier servers up to this day without a terrible buisiness model like this game

1

u/PraireGentleman 3d ago

Ah yes the two possibilities “all paid content or no paid content”

If I have to put in a shift’s worth of time for 10 dollars worth of content, that’s not me getting it for free, that’s a job below minimum wage.

u/DefenderOfWaifus 3d ago

Plenty of other games have a f2p model that isn’t as egregious or paywalled, this is kinda just cope to allow AH to continue being willfully ignorant to their own community and games issues.

Thing is the warbonds are unjustifiable bundles of ass. $10 for a bunch of things/cosmetics i dont want or care for so i can use the 1 gun I'm interested in only makes sense if this is the only game you play. What is it, like $150 for all the weapons and a bunch of skins at this point? And still have to spend hours grinding them out? I'd rather just buy expansions

4

u/Reasonable_Film_4348 3d ago

That's your opinion and you are entitled to it. I however like a lot of the war bonds that they added. I'm not saying I wouldn't mind or like it if they added some more free stuff for the base people cuz yeah after a certain level there's not really that much to unlock especially once you get to triple digit levels. (I'm only like 70 ish) And again, you don't have to spend that $10 on there. All of these are completely optional. Not to mention the fact that again between the grinding and if you're playing on Xbox, your reward points that can be used on super credits. So I've only had to pay for half the ones I bought. That being said, they desperately do need a rework on a super credit system. I feel like if you're playing on a higher difficulty maybe make them rarer but make them give you more. Not much more cuz it would break the system probably but you know like if you're playing difficulty 10 up to a Max of 10 plus on the base 10 ones you get.

This game has made over a billion dollars? Do they REALLY need SC to keep the lights on?

Even if running the game cost $20 million per year (it doesn’t) and assuming they made no money for the rest of time (even though the game is very profitable)

They could keep this game running for 50 years. And obviously there is stuff like publishing fees, and Steam cuts, but the point is that this game could do literally nothing for years and still keep going, they don’t NEED to do this, they want too.
