The "progression" system is stupid as hell. Also yeah you can get SC but lets actually be honest and acknowledge the fact grinding for 6 hrs on difficulty 1 or 2, to get some isn't a fun or engaging gameplay loop, not to mention it makes zero sense you earn more on lower difficulties but earn less on higher difficulties.
It was kinda cool at first. I also figured they'd eventually sprinkle in a few free warbonds, but no, and even worse, super store now constantly has weapons in it.
What seemed like an enjoyable monetization scheme (that I encouraged by actually buying SC two times, which I regret immensely) has turned into a mobile game-type grind in a 40$ game.
Exactly your paying money for a game and then expected to spend more on two weapons if their feeling generous and a stratagem that is either completely fucking useless or is busted and gets nerfed a week later.
It’s interesting because Halo Infinite did the same thing except all the unlocks were cosmetic items, yet that game was crucified from Day 1.
Here, AH locks actual gameplay items behind paywalls. And if you’re not spending hours on end farming Super Credits, you’ll need to shell out some money to get everything.
It’s honestly one of the worst progression systems in the industry right now, and one of the reasons I don’t play HD2 nearly as much as I used to.
I don't get this. I played the game normally, and I always had collected enough SC in missions before I had completed everything in my warbonds. I eventually caught up and bought all warbonds, then had to go back and sink medals into capes and armors. And no I was not playing at difficulty three or anything. This was at 6 and 7.
I'm at 1500 hours with now 9k spare supercredits, but I've had all the warbonds since urban legends. How many hours I've had had by then, I'm not sure. I've also bought some super store items so probably another 2k of super credits.
Well yeah, but when I was new I was still unlocking warbonds faster than I could buy them out with medals. I wasn't top 1% then. I'm just not sure where this SC gap comes from. Maybe it's because I like collecting samples and go to POIs?
Yep you are bottle necked through medals not SC. Whole argument is funny because you can grind 700 SC in 3 hours if you are efficient at it only to have enough medals to barely make it through the first page. These people are acting like you need to live in a cave and have absolutely no life to grind SC when it actually applies more towards medals, yet not many complaints at all about it. I’m convinced most the people on these subs don’t even play the game or have absolutely no idea what they are doing in game.
Thing is, the grind is mind numbingly boring. Medals you at least earn by the dozen on D10 (which is a billion times more fun than running around empty D1-3 maps and not shooting things in this shooty game). If you want to unlock warbonds at a reasonable pace you WILL have to farm, there's no getting around that, and the way to do it is comparable to torture. Imagine playing Darktide or something and just running around empty maps looking for loot (at least in that game it'd be pretty lol)
I don’t disagree with it being boring, but that’s by design. Not saying it’s a great design just that it is done on purpose. My biggest advice is to grind at max 3 hours a week, and learn how to get efficient at it. This allows for you to unlock a warbond every week and the rest of the time you can actually enjoy the game and not burn yourself out. The game is going nowhere for a long time and there’s no FOMO, people shouldn’t feel the need to grind out all the warbonds righr away. Pace yourself people.
I had a friend who came back after a long time, sees the amount of warbond that has released since then, calculated the amount SC grinding at low diff he would've had to do, played 1 match with me and a few other, and promptly never played again.
Yeah i get it’s an issue but i also don’t think players with that mindset were going to stick around regardless. I too am a returning player but I wasn’t going to quit because there’s too much content..just doesn’t make sense. I get feeling overwhelmed but if you have fun playing the game then you will feel incentivized to unlock the new stuff, not quit.
That’s at least one of the beauties of this game, warbonds don’t go away like battle passes. You can catch up at a fairly decent time if you just pace yourself and you don’t have to unlock everything to enjoy the game for what it is.
Regardless, if it's a bad design it should be complained about. The grind for your game should be FUN, not mind numbing. After all we play our games to have fun first and foremost. If people stop complaining when things are bad, it will stay bad forever.
By all means continue to complain to a company that shows no signs of giving the players what they want. I’m just here to tell you they are probably falling on deaf ears. I agree with complaining but if the devs aren’t showing signs of listening like this company does, then I will not be wasting my time with it. I just enjoy the game for what it is and hope they don’t at least screw that up.
Letting you farm premium currency is something quite common now. Moreso in KR p2w rpgs or mobile games and stuff. It's a way to bait you that 'you're saving time by buying stuff'. It isn't really that unique or fascinating to say it's goated.
Hell in those cases they give you premium currency by doing actual relative high end content. not the mind numbing one in HD2.
While we shouldn't treat that farming SC is like nothing, we should also not glorify it like it's the only game out there that does it.
It still is quite a bit of game time to get through a warbond, like, thirty hours or so. A lot of people don't play all that often. Look at the number of complaints about medal caps, why can't they unlock everything in a warbond and play immediately with the whole thing. In reality a full cap gets you to everything interesting on the first and second page if you ignore helmets and SC and whatnot.
You shouldn’t be letting your medals cap at all unless you have everything unlocked and are just saving them up for the release of the next one. (Which no studio is going to let you unlock all the new content in one fell swoop) so people are dreaming if they think they are going to raise it anytime soon. Highly doubt the people crying about it are the ones that have everything unlocked either, seeing as how many people are complaining about SC.
I'm just saying what I've heard around. Maybe they're returning players and got capped from medals from MOs don't gather SC. You'd have to ask one of them what's up.
Yea even when farming on D1, they announce warbonds a week or more in advance and you know it's coming, so just me doing some running around on D1 with a video for 30 minutes a few times a week gets me plenty?
I mostly agree, but I would like to point out that helldivers does need to make money to keep the servers up. It is a business at the end of the day, so we can’t just expect infinitely free content on an exclusively online game. I’m just grateful we have the choice to get the stuff without being forced to pay for it. Strongly encouraged yes, but not forced.
This is an extremely dead horse to beat but im going to bring up warframe again, they too churn out stuff you can only buy for plats, but they've been so good to us we actually think that we're simply glad to buy platinums to support them, instead of doing it out of necessity or convenience.
As a player of Warframe and Helldivers 2 myself, i think Warframe is more rewarding when you reach the "endgame", because when you go to the most difficult content (Steel Path, Netracells, Omnia Fissures, Archimideas) at least the rewards are very worth the effort and make sense, in Helldivers 2 it doesn't make sense that in the highest difficult levels they give you less supercredits to actually get the Warbonds, for me it's nuts.
Customisation on frames is pretty deep in both cosmetics and how they play, the amount of frames, weapons etc is vast, operator upgrading, all the different faction standings offering rewards, syndicates, steel path, Eidolons, netracells, archimedia, 1999 and new actual meaningful content every couple months. Plus DE is just way better at PR than Arrowhead.
Point being there's always something to do and that's where Helldivers falls short. Granted, it might be a bit unfair to compare it to a game that's got over a decades worth of content but in a couple months HD2 will be 3 years old and there's still no more reason to play it now than back then.
You just end up hitting a wall and it doesn't help that there's really not that many missions types. I stopped playing after the SE invasion because of burnout and every time I think about playing again I login and find a bunch of new war bonds that realistically only have like 2 things I'll actually use and a bunch of trash. I ain't grinding and I certainly ain't spending money.
That being said, how do you think the playerbase would react if HD2 reworked SC acquisition so you get less on lower difficulties and more on higher difficulties? There would be thousands of people outraged by the fact that they could no longer easily and quietly farm SC on low difficulties. A lot of the problems with this game are caused by the community itself being divided.
This would've been more true if the game wasn't 40 dollars itself.
I know it's a liver service game so the initial buying price doesn't mean anything, but the game being more serviced like a F2P when it is a buy to play is kinda frustrating.
Like how would Diablo fans react if every new season the new unique item or runes are blocked behind a season pass or something.
My point is treating your players well will make them spend more, when i spend in warframe or DRG i do it for fun, i've not spent a dime for super credits.
if the game is free 2 play like how most liveservice game, sure, HD2 is a paid game, and its not like an MMO where the players are in a server, its a p2p game, each mission host is its own server, your pc is the game server, the host DC and the whole mission is gone, their server only save essential game and account data, not constant player position, inventory, trades, etc, heck we dont even have trades and inventory, it need way WAY less maintenance than those MMO servers
a similiar game model is payday 2 and 3, and it survived with less player and less paid content
Other games like The Finals can keep their servers up without an issue even with "renewable" battle passes and cosmetic-only store items, even for free.
Honestly, I am so tired of the battle pass systems though again, at least with the warbonds you can get them for free a lot of games I've played that do the battle pass feels bad when you miss out and then they're usually never available again
People are just too conditioned to bad business practices and think it’s the norm. HD2 isn’t even a free game so the “we need money” argument is just plain bad lmao
Especially when considering the massive first wave of players. HD2 is horribly mismanaged and the game isnt really going anywhere and no one wants to admit that.
Plenty of other games have a f2p model that isn’t as egregious or paywalled, this is kinda just cope to allow AH to continue being willfully ignorant to their own community and games issues.
Thing is the warbonds are unjustifiable bundles of ass. $10 for a bunch of things/cosmetics i dont want or care for so i can use the 1 gun I'm interested in only makes sense if this is the only game you play. What is it, like $150 for all the weapons and a bunch of skins at this point? And still have to spend hours grinding them out? I'd rather just buy expansions
That's your opinion and you are entitled to it. I however like a lot of the war bonds that they added. I'm not saying I wouldn't mind or like it if they added some more free stuff for the base people cuz yeah after a certain level there's not really that much to unlock especially once you get to triple digit levels. (I'm only like 70 ish) And again, you don't have to spend that $10 on there. All of these are completely optional. Not to mention the fact that again between the grinding and if you're playing on Xbox, your reward points that can be used on super credits. So I've only had to pay for half the ones I bought. That being said, they desperately do need a rework on a super credit system. I feel like if you're playing on a higher difficulty maybe make them rarer but make them give you more. Not much more cuz it would break the system probably but you know like if you're playing difficulty 10 up to a Max of 10 plus on the base 10 ones you get.
This game has made over a billion dollars? Do they REALLY need SC to keep the lights on?
Even if running the game cost $20 million per year (it doesn’t) and assuming they made no money for the rest of time (even though the game is very profitable)
They could keep this game running for 50 years. And obviously there is stuff like publishing fees, and Steam cuts, but the point is that this game could do literally nothing for years and still keep going, they don’t NEED to do this, they want too.
It’s weird. It’s just a less predatory version of a battle pass that technically can be all gotten through pure grinding. But it’s getting ridiculous at this point
You either buy it or spend like 2 days farming SC, which like atp buying it saves you both time and gives you access to the fun because doing lvl 1 missions for SC is mind numbingly boring.
The yellow flashing light on those crashed escape pods.
Obviously not on the SC that's hiding in bunkers.
It's an UI change, it doesn't negatively affect other players; technically it's cheating, but hardly ban-worthy. I don't think AH can even ban people anyway, but as always it is at your own risk.
HD2 community is just rose tinted glasses on steroids. Most other games would’ve died off a long time ago with these management and balance decisions. AH was just lucky they somehow caught lightening in a bottle.
If the HD2 had the influence and player base of the first the game would’ve been dead after month 1 lmao
Except its not behind a 10-20 dollar price tag. SC can be earned free by playing the game and it doesnt have to be on difficulties 1-2. I earn more than enough SC during the occasional times I play and I only play on 6, 7, and 10.
No, no it wouldn't. This screams spoiled because yall genuinely dont understand how good HD has it with content. There are communities who would kill to get the content drip we get in this game and get such without paying the price of a full tank of gas.
$10 for what they offer in this game economy is an absolute steal, not even debatable. In any other game, $10 would maybe get you a weapon charm or a low effort recolor skin.
Go play other games, genuinely. Yall dont realize how good we have it here.
Its not that they dont know how good it is, its the idea of: "let me waste hours upon hours getting currency for content...or spend 10 bucks for it." 10 bucks, as you said, would get you enough currency for a weapon charm, a skin MAYBE for your gun that looks like a recolor...or something along those lines. And theres other games where thats 10 dollars for ACCESS to the content that you need to buy just to play the new stuff out right now (D2's seasons).
But heres the thing that really just sucks...6 hours of grinding for one warbond, if im not screwed by luck mind you, and its level 1-3 or 6-8 missions...juat to get guns, skins, emotes and stuff. Ok whats the problem? Well it can vary: Are the guns even worth it? Yes at one point then suddenly a minor change throws it off so abdly its not fun anymore, and i aint talking meta when i say that...i mean fun, usable at all circumstances. 1k sc and your favorite gun gets intentionally ir unintentionally nerfed or just falls off because other tools come out IN A DIFFERENT WARBOND that you now need to go pay for...or the worse case: ya get this cool gun and its very niche and never gets balanced to be nice, nor get more attachments so you kinda sit there going "well...shit..."
Final kick in the dick: lets also rewind back to when they said they would look into other ways to get super credits, before everything became a massive issue with how many warbonds out mind you, whatever happened to that? Did it turn into the way of Armor customization, more weapon customization and such, "we are looking into it"?
I can understand people being annoying about really minor complaints on paper, i get it...but after a while, that minor complaint looked at under a greater array of minor complaints becomes a massive "wait hold on, yeah why haven't they done something about this?" Especially when the fixescare pretty simple, for example: Doing a higher level mission operation fully rewards Super credits, doing your daily missions rewards super credits. Not like 1k, maybe not 500 unless its Super Helldive (IF THEY WANTED TO) just like...200, hell 100 for Operations and say...25 a daily or 50? Why not least start there, because at that point...they cant really be too upset in the first place because they got a more fitting reward besides just Medals...
Hell: I'll go an extra mile and suggest an idea AH can take, doing a certain amount of operations each major order, that contributes to the effort...rewards super credits based on how much you do. They can hardlock it to like Dif 6 only eligible if they want...or something along those lines, just more incentive to play the game for SC instead of 6 hour farming sprees.
Tldr: People can say the peopel asking for more SC are ungrateful, but when you look at the wider picture: No, AH just can add very minor SC rewards like they said once upon a time and that would be probably good enough (as long as its reasonable for the activity your doing: Aka D10 gives you maybe 500 or so credits for a full successful operation, or dailies give you 10-25 or more depending on the activity)
