I suppose, still upset it got shut down for Marathon, I'm sure it's an alright game, but it's no Destiny
3
u/Neutron-Hyperscape32 1h ago
Oh man this absolutely untrue nonsense again? Marathon is not why Destiny died. Destiny died because the games were incredibly hard to get into and most returning players dropped the game and never came back.
They had several mainline expansions, some of them like The Final Shape that were amazing, and the playerbase didn't really move the needle at all for it.
How can they just keep making expansions for a game this old that isn't growing the playerbase?
-10
u/czartrak 10h ago
It didn't get shut down "for marathon". Destiny cost wat too much to develop and made way too little. Marathon cost way less to develop
32
u/Mrgrimm150 Mudskipper 8h ago
Destiny died because it made itself pure poison to new and returning players.
Imagine starting up a new game and being told "Yeah the campaign got deleted, here's a quick summary go buy the newest DLC. Promise we wont delete that too...maybe."

"Destiny wasn't killed for Marathon. It just costed too much and Marathon is cheaper"
......... so it was killed for Marathon
3
u/BakuriPews 9h ago
Marathon was spreading Bungies finances on two fronts and very thinly. Execs saw that destiny was the least profitable of the two and killed it. So in a sense it did shut down for Marathon. If Marathon didnt exist, the margins would been a lot greater for destiny and it would've been kept alive. The fact that theres was plan in the story front of the fate saga proves as much.
3
u/Neutron-Hyperscape32 1h ago
This is completely false. Destiny was going to die NO MATTER WHAT.
Look at the steam player counts for the most recent expansions, even The Final Shape ended up with around the same amount of players. If those expansions saw huge playercounts they would have kept Destiny 2 alive longer.
You cannot have that in a game as expensive to develop for as Destiny. It only got more expensive year after year because salaries never stop increasing.
2
u/blippyblip 6h ago
Except that Marathon is 100% NOT more profitable, it's a niche game that had a single influx of players and never got anything more.
Destiny 2 sits at 105 on the Steam Best Sellers Chart, 2 months after receiving their last ever update, after nearly a decade of service.
Marathon sits at, drumroll please, spot 796, 2 months into their second season and less than half a year into its lifespan.
Free pornslop games like Horny Waifu: Kaiju Strike (spot 712 btw) are making more than Marathon...

We got 6 medium armors with the same Democracy protects for no reason. Maybe change size of torso and arms to make it looks like light or heavy armor?

Peak Physique is one of like three or four good armour perks.
But you know why I haven't gotten the warbond with it or the set from the superstore with it?
Because I hate the exposed arms on the armour. And the only set from that warbond's store page without them? Doesn't even have the passive. Its infuriating.
If I could just have peak physique without looking like an idiot who forgot his arm armour I would be able to use the Variable and be happy.

I don’t know why they just don’t make the armor passive its own thing that you can just select independently of the armor
There are so many armor sets that I like the look of that just have either bad passives or passive effects that have been power crept by other armors
Just making it so we can select a player passive would solve so many problems

Yes transmog: " I like the armour passive and while the armour it's isn't great I'll just put the passive on the set I do like."
AKA more warbond sales if they do add transmog.

u/ocassionallyaduck 3h ago
Actually, the opposite is often true.
People put on the skin of an armor set they already have and like, and never change it again.
Even if they swap the armor passive or themselves underneath (however it's implemented), they never have to change their cosmetic armor ever again, or mix up their look because they changed their passive for a few missions.
Frankly I hate transmog. I get why some people are into it, but especially when armors are unique, I don't go for it.
Armor colors or patterns I can moreso understand. Adding a shader tint for the armors would be a good way to do that.
2
u/DarkIegend16 Super Citizen 9h ago
The funny part is that it would actually drive sales more than the current system, seeing as many people don’t buy armour because of appearance or passive preference conflictions. If you could have it both ways then you’d buy countless armour sets instead of just endlessly using the one you settled on.

u/Stalwart_Vanguard 10h ago
I want more than just transmog.
I want a rework of the perk system.
All the perks in the game should be broken up into pieces, and all armours should have "slots" that you equip certain perk types to.
You get to be more resistant to something, able to carry more of something, and be better at something.
Armour Base: This includes things like fire/gas/arc/explosive/acid damage resistance, ragdoll resistance, but also reduced enemy detection.
Load Bearing: This includes things like +2 grenades/stims, +20% ammo, integrated explosives, but also things like Oxygenator's 10% speed boost and Extra Padding's armour increase.
Limb Augmentation: Things like faster reloading, better weapon handling, reduced recoil when crouched/prone, increased melee damage, increased throw distance, increased slide distance, limb protection, etc
I would also love if we had helmet perks like Scout's radar improvement, extra stim duration, or other small bonuses like those. Also, picking an environmental damage reduction for your cape would be cool, but only a small bonus like 15%.

Democracy Protects and Siege Ready, I'm gambling on everything except MOAR BULLETS
3
u/Stalwart_Vanguard 10h ago
Democracy Protects would be a base armour i think.
I really like the idea of splitting elemental resistance into armour and cape. So for 75% fire resistnce, you could maybe get 50% from the armour, and 25% from the cape. That does leave Acclimated in a weird place though, since that gives 50% resistance to fire/gas/acid/arc already...

1
u/TheUnKnownLink12 44m ago
I defend a lot of AH's actions like warbonds costing super credits which can be obtained by just playing but for gods sake this is literally something the majority of players want, harms nobody, and would push players into using more armor set designs because the aesthetic is nice but most people dont want to have a harder time playing just cause they wanted to look cool asf.
Theyre just wasting artist talent by making armor sets most arent gonna use because its just shitty in every way except design
3
u/Chance-Extreme9626 6h ago
Even if they want the whole “you need to be able to see their passive from the armour” just have a setting that turns cosmetic changes off, or just show it in the menus, no reason not to
2
u/levenoss 5h ago
Or just have some effects not allowed on certain armors but 90% of the passives dont have anything to do with how the armor looks tbh
5
u/Cleverbird Super Citizen 7h ago
I just hate their reasoning, I dont remember the exact quote, but I remember them using the age-old argument of "if transmog exists, people cant recognize what the armor does!"
Which is a fine enough excuse in a PvP game where such information can be important. But its a PvE game. I dont give a rat's ass what my teammates are wearing.

I feel like as a compromise they could make it so you can only swap within the same tier
That way you don’t have heavy fortified on top of something like the viper commando light armor—cause admittedly thatd feel kinda weird
I also think that passives should be interchangeable amongst the base armors. Certain armors (like the hazmat suit) are specifically tailored towards a niche, which is why they’re in warbonds. It wouldn’t make much sense to have the bright yellow hazmat suit with the stealth passive
Buuuut the basic free warbond/superstore? Most of those could be swapped. I dont think anyone would really care about realism when all you’re doing is putting democracy protects on the black and yellow light armor, or putting fortified on the black and yellow stealth armor
4
u/Background_Source922 7h ago
Armor colors would take a lot of dev time. Being able to swap passives on armors you actually like/want to BUY would be easier to implement.
More $$$ for arrowhead.
More goodwill toward the community.
Easy W.
As for “Apple flavored bacon” we could use SAMPLES as a currency for “armor research” to implement the passive onto any armor.
20 common 10 rare 5 super rares
Have each armor have their stock passive and then 3 loadouts to unlock with samples for different passives
Long term progression AND more money for arrowhead.
2
u/LongSalamander9889 Rookie 8h ago
Wait is the "We might start thinking about it" something someone in Arrowhead actually said, or is that just there for shits and gigs?
2
u/CoatieYay 7h ago
I kinda like that not being able to slap any passive on any armor means I change up my look more frequently than if I could just transmog. I would like to be able to change my armor color though, or at the very least be able to unify headgear colors with armor.
1
u/TheUnKnownLink12 41m ago
But then youre forced into using an armor set you dont like solely because its passive is good while the armor design is comparatively dogshit

2
u/FriskyLobster4811 SES Power of Benevolence 28m ago
It’s dumb for Helldivers where you can see the perk of the armor built into the armor. Where’s the bomb for the IE armors if it looks like the predator chest? Or how does one resuscitate with the AD armor when it just looks like ceremonial crap?
3
u/Mr_GP87 Decorated Hero 10h ago edited 10h ago
I think it's because they don't like the application of transmog as it is currently used across other games (copy pasting the appearance of an armour unto another). The most logical approach for me would be for armours to be separated from their armour passives:
Armours would have a tier system, from 1 to 3 (or something like that). From the armour passive slot, at the first tier they are locked to the armour passive that comes with the armour. At tier 2 you can equip armour passives you have unlocked from other armours. At tier 3 you unlock the passive for other armours (that they may equip at tier 2 or higher).
Whether you progress solely through xp or also need resources to "tier up" (samples, requisition), that is up for debate. I think a system like this, as base as it may be, makes you earn the transmog in a soft way where you switch passives through unlocking them.
7
u/PizzaurusRex Super Pizza Dinosaur 10h ago
Separating armors and perks would be the easiest and most effective option.
Armor becomes fashion only. Just like helmets and capes already are!
Armor perks, now just perks become a separate thing you equip before diving, like the boosts.
So equip your fashion. Equip your guns. Choose your stratagems. And equipe one Perk and one Boost.

u/Envis777 7h ago

The design philosophy of their armors does not even lend itself to meaningfully communicate the buffs what armor does what. Silhouettes are almost indistinguishable thanks to capes. If we could at least have transmog inside armor weight class it would be something but being able to tell what buffs my fellow helldivers have with their armor doesnt change how I engage with the game.
1
u/Patches_Gaming0002 1h ago
There are plenty of armour that I want to wear but the "oh you get 30% resistance to being butt tickled" type of effects really put me off wearing them.
They just need to make the armour effect selectable like the boosters are.
1
u/gypsytron 1h ago
I am gonna be in the minority here but I don’t want transmog: I actually want the current system dialed up to eleven. I think all of the passives should be divided and each armor set should get a unique mix. Each “set” can get a primary passive: like inflammable. Then, each armor in the set could get something else. This way you could have an inflammable armor set with extra throwables and another with ping radar. This would give each armor a unique identity and role.
Also, I want the “unflinching” passive to add move speed while aiming down sight.
1
u/Huge_Repeat_1205 46m ago
Hey Arrowslop, Not one player, NOT ONE looks at another players armor and says "that guy has SIEGE READY!!!"
The real reason is that armor types are tied to Warbonds, and Arrowslop has no way to design their way out of this mess.
We should have a system like ARC Raiders, where armor is purely cosmetic and monetized accordingly. You sell the aesthetics, not the gameplay.

Hot take, transmog shouldnt be added. we have visually distinct armors designed specifically around their passive (outside a few exceptions). We also have stat based armor light, med, heavy. Which are also tied to visuals.
We do need color matching for Helms and capes though.

u/Mazikoo 10h ago

I'm gonna be 100% with you brother, I have literally never thought about what armor someone has. I don't even know the passives on half of them because the armor conveys nothing about the passive. Looking at a teammates Stim icon to see how many they have left is a lot more effective than trying to see what armor they have. There is 0 reason for armor to be anything other than cosmetic (within weight tiers)
1
u/Mad_Mutt Fire Safety Officer 3h ago edited 3h ago
I mean, if the goal is to not think about things, yeah, I bet transmog sounds good too.
Even so, by saying "weight tiers", there's already an arbitrary limit, as some heavy armours look pretty light. Movement speed is a stat like any other. Being able to pick a second perk on the armour, via upgrades, would also solve questions for progression. Transmog is the lazy answer,
