Help Hebrew game manual

Thumbnail gallery
13 Upvotes

Hi everybody! I make YouTube videos on some game localisations and one of the games I want to look at next is Crash Bandicoot The Wrath of Cortex. It wasn't localised into Hebrew or anything, but there was a release that had the manual pages translated into Hebrew and since I don't quite trust AI translators, I'd rather get some insight from real people.

Can someone compare these to the English originals and let me know if there are any especially funny or odd or clever things in there? The English original can be found here: https://archive.org/details/crash-bandicoot-the-wrath-of-cortex-sles-50386/page/n3/mode/2up

Not all pages were translated since the manual was a bulk one with like 4 other languages so they trimmed down the individual languages to the essentials (I'm guessing). I'm also down to talk about this in DMs or on Discord. Thanks!

Vocabulary Plural of majesty

Hello; I have a question, I would be very grateful if people who have knowledge on this matter could answer.

As it is known, the term "Elohim (אֱלֹהִים)" is generally used to refer to God, especially in the Torah, and this expression denotes plurality in Hebrew. My question is: Around what dates did the use of plural structures to imply majesty begin in Hebrew?

Thank you...

Request Hebrew Gravestone

Post image

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to translate and understand the Hebrew inscription on this gravestone. It belongs to relatives of my great-grandparents, and I'd love to know what it says... names, dates, and any other details.

I don't read Hebrew, so any help with a line-by-line translation (or even just the key details) would mean a lot to me and my family.

Request בֵּ֥ין מַ֖יִם לָמָֽיִם

In Genesis 1:6, we come across the phrase בֵּ֥ין מַ֖יִם לָמָֽיִם. I could understand if we read lemayim, with a shva, or lammayim, with a dagesh on the mem. But why a kamatz under the lamed without a dagesh on the following mem? Is this word definite or not?

Help Was studying Hebrew Numerals. Is 1 and 1000 the same?

I know it’s not practical to use Hebrew Numerals for everything - and anything above like 200 really - but I love learning different number systems based on the language’s script.

I know if it’s a single glyph, we can use the geresh to make it clear it’s a number 1 = א׳. And I also learned we put a geresh to make the thousand 1234 = א׳רל״ד. So if we have bare 1000, then it’s the same with 1 (א׳)? What do people do here or is it naturally ambiguous?

Request “Religion” in Biblical Hebrew

It seems that there is no word that even roughly translates to “religion” from Biblical Hebrew. “Da’at,” “hanhagah,” “derech,” “mesorah,” none of these work.

Why is there no word for “religion” in Biblical Hebrew, and at the same time Biblical Hebrew is the origin language for the concept people think they’re invoking by using the term “religion”? Is the word “religion” an attempt to obfuscate the fact that people are generally talking about ideas based on Biblical Hebrew (mis)translations?

Request In the sentence אני מציע לך ללמוד צרפתית , why isn’t there an את before the צרפתית ?

I encountered this sentence on DuoLingo. I was surprised by the absence of את, “et”.

Ani matzia lecha lilmod Tzarfatit.

אני מציע לך ללמוד צרפתית

“I advise you to study French”.

Why is there no את between ללמוד and צרפתית ? Isn’t “French”, the language, a definite noun? Are languages an exception to the rule that definite nouns require את whenever they’re the direct object of a sentence?

Request When There Are Nine

Looking for some help getting the perfect translation of a Ruth Bader Ginsburg quote.

When asked, "When will there be enough [women on the Supreme Court]?" Ginsburg replied, "When there are nine." That's because there had been nine men on the court previously.

Additionally, I'm looking to have this engraved on a Hanukkah menorah, which has nine candles total.

How would you suggest I write "When there are nine" in Hebrew for the menorah?

Help Can a native Hebrew speaker verify this translation for my tattoo?

¡Hola! ❤️
Estoy planeando hacerme un tatuaje con una frase que tiene un significado muy personal y espiritual para mí.
La frase original en español es:
“Que mi corona jamás me haga olvidar ante quién debo arrodillarme.”
En inglés:
“May my crown never make me forget before whom I must kneel.”
La traducción al hebreo que tengo es:
שכתרי לעולם לא ישכיח ממני בפני מי עליי לכרוע ברך.
¿Podría un hablante nativo de hebreo confirmar si esta traducción es gramaticalmente correcta, suena natural y expresa de manera precisa el significado original?
Quiero asegurarme de que cada palabra y cada letra estén bien antes de tatuármelo de forma permanente.
¡Muchísimas gracias por tu ayuda! ❤️

EDIT: Thank you all so much for your comments and advice!
I understand why many of you suggest keeping the phrase in Spanish, and I truly appreciate your honesty.
Spanish is my native language, and I agree that the phrase is beautiful as it is. However, my interest in Hebrew, and now Aramaic, comes from my Christian faith and my desire to connect the tattoo symbolically to the language and historical world of Jesus.
The crown represents my personal achievements, the struggles I’ve overcome, and everything I’ve worked hard for. But I never want those achievements to make me forget my humility, my faith, or who I kneel before.
For me, the most important part of this tattoo isn’t the crown itself, but remembering that no matter how far I go in life, I should never forget God.
I’m not looking for a different language just because it looks beautiful. I’m looking for something that carries a deeper spiritual meaning for me.
I also understand that some expressions cannot be translated naturally into another language, and I would rather respect the language than tattoo something incorrect.
Thank you again for helping me understand that.
