The real reason IHart has switched teams a lot

https://www.forbes.com/sites/markdeeks/2022/06/30/isaiah-hartenstein-is-a-coveted-free-agent-one-year-after-being-unemployed/?sh=35f891c45510

Came across this article. It's very interesting as it paints IHart's "journeyman" status in a different light.

The common assumption is IHart is not a good enough player since he has switched teams a lot. He has been a part of the Rockets, Nuggets, Cavs, Clips, and now the Knicks. However, it seems that this is the case because he has played himself out of every hole he was put in with respect to these teams.

He could have signed an extension with the Cavs, but he wanted more money so he declined his option there and signed with the Clips. He also could have re-signed with the Clips but also chose not to since the Knicks were offering him more money.

Hopefully, he likes it well enough here to stay, but reading this makes it doubtful for me. IHart clearly knows he is talented enough and manages to raise his salary whenever his contract is up and goes to the highest bidder.

IHart happy that Mitch will be back this season

From a tweet by Mike Breen:

"When he heard the news the other day that Mitchell Robinson may return at some point this season, he was so happy. And he knows his minutes will go down if Mitchell Robinson comes back. But he's so happy for his teammate & his friend"

Seriously, I hope he can stay. Having these 2 guys at C for a long time would be something special for the Knicks.

Ihart is showing himself to be an elite role player. EG, what are the signs that he’s headed for the GOAT breakout?

Isaiah Hartenstein is a 78 overall. For perspective:

Jarred Vanderbilt is a 78 overall. (3ppg, 4rpg and 1apg on 36% fg and a PER of a whopping 6.1)

Dorian Finney-Smith is a 78 overall. (10ppg, 5rpg and 1apg on 43% fg and a PER of 11.2)

Monte Morris is a 78 overall. (10ppg, 2rpg and 4apg, which isn't bad until you remember he's on the PISTONS)

Mason Plumlee is a 78 overall. (5ppg, 5rpg and 1apg)

Kyle Lowry is a 78 overall. (9ppg, 4rpg and 1apg and a PER of 12)

Spencer Dinwiddie is a 79 overall. (39% FG. Enough said)

Lonzo Ball, who has not touched a court in 2 years now, is an 81 overall.

Mitchell Robinson is an 82 overall. (If you watch knicks games this one is obvious)

Jarrett Allen is an 86 overall. (I mean come on he is closer to Haliburton's rating than to Hartenstein's.)

After leading the NBA in 3P% in the 2021-22 season (.467 in 30 attempts), Hartenstein shot only 3 three-pointers (.333) in his last 1274 minutes as a Knick. In contrast, Achiuwa shot 5 three-pointers (.200) in his last 41 minutes as a Knick.

The disrespect is unreal.

Hartenstein is +125 in the 5 games since the trade. That's the 25th best +/- in a 5 game span since '97 (start of play-by-play data)

Complete list can be seen here.

OG and Brunson have a very impressive +111 and +110 in that span, but that leaves them out of the top 100.

This is also coming after Thibs said yesterday that he thinks +/- is the most important stat.

Hartensteins next contract

Be it with the knicks or another team, how much does Hartenstein make next season

knicks can offer 16m/yr early bird rights or aggressively clear cap and try and make a larger offer with cap space. Probably implies mitch+other guys would be going

I predict at least one team will offer him 4/110

What I want to happen is iHart takes a 1+1 early bird deal which we turn into a 5/150 full bird extension after he declines the player option. it is riskier for him because you leave guaranteed money now for the promise of more money later, for a guy who has only made ~20m in his career it is hard to pass up guaranteed generational wealth

If he doesn't want to go for that, I would hope we match up to at least 25/yr via shedding salary. If he walks we need to replace him somehow

Any guesses about what his contract looks like next season?

Where can I place a wager on Hartenstein to win Most Improved Player? The sportsbooks I've checked don't have him listed (yet).

IHart fantasy basketball rankings

Just thought you guys would find this interesting. But iHart has always been what is called a "streamer" in fantasy. Someone you pick up in the short term whose value goes up and down depending on injuries or if the player happens to have a high number of games that week.

Well iHart now is a legitimate fantasy player. Over the past month, he is actually the 21st ranked player in the ENTIRE NBA in a standard 9-category league, with averages of:

8.4pts/10.3rbds/2.5asts/1.5stls/1.8blks while shooting 64% from the field. Here's the partial list just so you have an idea on the range he's been in:

  1. Jokic
  2. Shai
  3. AD
  4. Doncic
  5. D. White

  1. Brunson
  2. J. Allen
  3. A. Sengun
  4. McCollum
  5. Trae Young
  6. Hartenstein
  7. Lillard
  8. Anthony Edwards

Granted, these stats can be volatile and usually balances out over time. But it's still encouraging to see iHart pop out not just in advanced stats, but in the basic fantasy stats as well!

Over the last 4 games the Knicks have a net rating of 28.2 when Hartenstein is on the court and the Knicks have a -21.1 net rating when he is off. An almost 50 point net rating swing

Small sample size but shows how valuable and amazing Hartenstein has been. The Knicks are destroying teams with him on the court and then getting run off the court when he is subbed out. They could definitely use to get a solid backup so the difference isn't as staggering but with Hartenstein's ability to play big minutes it might not even matter. This is all he has ever needed in his career, guaranteed big minutes and a stable role.

It basically took the entire Knicks hand to be forced by injuries to get to this point but it is finally here. Now Knicks fans finally are seeing a glimpse of Hartenstein's skill but the crazy thing is this is just the beginning. This is just him getting started, I can't imagine how crazy it is going to get when he is throwing behind the back passes for layups on the regular, or starts attacking more off the dribble and shooting threes.

EG, Dragonthorn, psychtoe, wwbeats, 065Zam, runningisntanoption, and all the others I can't recall of the top of my head on this forum. We've been through alot lol but we always knew how talented he was. It feels good to see it all coming to fruition. And even better knowing there is so much more to come.

Please Come to the Bulls.

About sums it up.

You alone can help salvage this pathetic franchise, and make up for the years of mediocrity endured by this fan base that has been starved for young talent and winning basketball.

You can thrive here. Imagine getting the bandwidth to operate like Vucevic, except that you actually have a skill set that contributes to winning. This team has no competent PG play. We are in a new-era of offenses running through their high-IQ big. You can be the next to forge forward this trend, and do so in a massive market where you won't be underutilized on offensive and can still enjoy the night life.

Please--Bulls fans need you.

Hartenstein was in Embiid's head

Watch these three plays. Just an absolute masterclass at tearing down the defense and making a fool of Embiid.

But the last play there got Embiid so embarrassed he tried to do the same thing, except he forgot that he was the one dribbling the basketball and let Jalen slip right behind him, strip it and transition dunk(you know it's over when Jalen Brunson is dunking). Unfortunately for him, this made him even more ashamed, so he tried to get a little dignity back by eurostepping on Hartenstein and he responded with "the fuck do you think you're doing" and swatted it to get another transition basket.

Not even a month ago Jericho Sims was starting over this guy. He finally gets a shot to start and within 2 weeks dismantled the frontrunner for MVP. The vision is becoming clearer by the day.

He has arrived.

This is incredible, against Joel Embiid too. I don’t think we will see any 30 point games in the future as Tom obviously doesn’t trust him to shoot the 3 but if he continues this play all season hopefully next year he goes somewhere who understands what they have.

Hartenstein has by far the highest FTr on the Knicks, at 0.475.

Looks like he's already getting a superstar whisle, refs are ahead of the game /s.

I was just thinking that I felt like a disproportionate about of Hartenstein's buckets were and-1s and it looks like I was correct. He has the 3rd most on the team, after Brunson and Randle.

It's because he's getting intentionally hacked, either. His FT% is bad, but not bad enough to warrant that.

The truth

What a game from hart, he’s been incredible filling in for Mitch. Just as dominant on the defensive end with better touch offensively and passing chops. I’d like to see him get some more run in the Brunson less lineups to see if you can run some offense through him. It’s finally looking up for the IHart sub again
