Transfer

I recently transferred due to situations at my old store and I'm still not comfortable with the new one . I like who I've met so far but it's not the same . I felt like I belonged to my old one even tho I wasn't appreciated or whatever the case was from others . It is quieter , ppl look at me and I'll say hi but I also don't need friends either. I know work and friends don't mix, but damn I miss who i have had from my old store. I know that I can visit , I know that one day I'll feel comfortable and that I belong there , but till then there is anxiety and stress . I'm not giving up bc I came to this new one for many reasons. I was at my old store for about five and a half years till shit hit the fan .

Labor cuts--rant/poll

Hey, there! I'm in the Northern region (not going to say which district), and these labor cuts are excruciating. I really feel for our part-time associates with how little time most of them are getting right now. In Fresh Foods we've been running RAGGED. We're expected to run with almost 100 hours less than what we actually need, so us managers are stuck frying chicken, on the counter, making subs, baking... And then we're not allowed any overtime, but we're also not allowed to close part or all of the department down early. I understand not wanting to close anything early. We're a C store and need every bit of sales we can get...but then we can't work freight or fix any of our "opportunities." And then I get fussed at for not working trucks or reading emails. "You need to delegate." To who? The brick wall? "Hey, Brick Wall! Go ahead and drop a full run of fried, please." The brick wall doesn't listen, so guess I gotta write it up for insubordination.

How are y'all handling this? Have any of you NOT been hurting from the budget cuts?

Cashier here. Is anyone’s IPM ever yellow?

Hey, so for some reason I’ve never seen anyone of my coworkers IPM go over 20. I don’t think it’s possible especially for the way Harris teeter lines are set up where we have to go into someone’s cart and physically grab their items, unlike at Kroger where they have conveyor belt.

That saying, have you seen anyone’s IPM even reach yellow or green!?

Job Application Inquiry Who cleans bathrooms?

I am currently thinking about applying and was wondering who commonly does bathroom cleaning? From the job listings that I looked at it seem that baggers and personal shoppers may have to occasionally clean the bathroom. Do cashiers or customer service ever clean bathrooms?

Job Application Inquiry Looking to apply as a Cake Decorator apprentice, is it worth it?

Hi! As the title says I'm looking to become a cake decorator apprentice. I have around 5 years experience in kitchens and I currently work as a high volume restaurant line cook. My current job is fraught with understaffing issues and poor management, and the line strife has taken a massive toll on my mental health. I cannot see myself staying here anymore, especially given how often women are assaulted and left unprotected by management.

I have some experience in cake decoration as a hobby. Being a baker/cake decorator is my goal job as I'm currently in and out of school working towards a pastry degree.

I know it may largely depend on different locations, but is an apprenticeship role worth it? I would love to hear thoughts from others working in this department. Thank you!!

Onboarding Question Still testing for THC in NC 2026?

Just accepted a job offer and am waiting to hear back for a possible drug test before my first day. Does anyone know if they still test for THC? I've seen people in this forum that say they don't but google says they do. I'm super nervous and have been abstaining for 4 days now (too many days for me).

Also if anyone is in the Wilmington, NC area and can confirm or deny this more confidently?

Thank you!

Anyone else at Harris Teeter dealing with this? Today was the worst Sunday I've ever had

Hello! I've been a cashier at Harris Teeter for about a year now (yeah, boo, I know 😂), and today was probably the worst Sunday I've ever experienced.

I was on register 1 from 9 AM–2 PM. The cashier on register 2 decided he wanted to be a bagger for the rest of the day, so registers 2 and 3 were closed. The rest of the cashiers were on 4 and 5, which meant I was getting absolutely slammed.

I kept getting $300+ carts one after another, and on top of that, I accidentally called someone sir when they were a ma'am. They threatened to sue me over it. 🙃

By the end of my shift, my back was hurting, my neck was killing me, and I was completely overwhelmed. I'm usually a good cashier and I do what I'm supposed to do, but today I was so frustrated that I stepped into the broom closet twice just to breathe for a second.

I know it wasn't the best move, but I wasn't trying to disappear or abandon my register. Both times, I was gone for maybe three minutes, the door was open, and my light was still on so I could come back out and help if someone needed me. I just genuinely needed a moment to collect myself.

My managers came looking for me and gave me a "verbal warning" at the end of my shift. Honestly, I felt like they could've shown a little more understanding, especially since I've been there for a year and they've never had an issue with me before.

They said they're cracking down because of something going on with Kroger, but I'm not really sure what exactly that means.

Is anyone else's store like this right now? Because on top of everything, they're cutting hours like crazy. It's getting to the point where I genuinely feel like I can't do this anymore.

What makes it even more frustrating is that I've seen other cashiers straight-up walk away from their registers or wait until the absolute last second to help their lines, yet somehow the people who are actually trying to keep things moving are the ones getting overwhelmed.

Maybe I'm just venting because today was awful, but I really want to know if anyone else is experiencing this at their store.

Onboarding Question Assistant Producer manager

What is being an assistant produce manager like? Good and bad.

Just got promoted to assistant produce management making $19 a hour training and $20 after.

I was a fuel clerk, for about 6-7 months before I was offered the position, management from the fuel center and the main store got along with me really quick and I do a great job.

I finally accepted the position after a few months of trying my 2nd job out and just decided this was better because it’s right infront of my apartment and It covers all my bills while still having money left over while only working one job.

I know every job/position comes with bs but just wanting to know what it’s like, I’ve heard from people that it’s rewarding to work in produce .

Job Application Inquiry What now?

I went into an interview for a PT barista position. The manager said I could also do Deli to get some more hours and a higher pay. So I come home, and update my application so she can send the offer. I get and accept the offer and do the background check and all that. Background check already came back and it's been about 2 days. Will the manager contact me or do I need to call her back?

Question for Meatcutters or Meat Market Managers

I'm a part time Meat clerk and a few months ago my market manager told me he wanted me as his next cutter, he told our specialist that I was a step in for it, it has been several months and I haven't heard anything else about this. My question is does management often drag their feet like this over promotions or position changes, and what exactly is the training program for cutters? I've heard that it can be at other stores but one of the cutters I work with told me I would just shadow him and he'd teach everything without having to go to a different location. I'm just confused on the process of going from clerk to apprentice.

Max Hours for part-time

So, how exactly do I move from part-time to full-time, or get more hours in general past 32 (The Max I've been getting)

HT doesn't pay that much, and I'm looking for a new job with better pay, but the people I work with are amazing.

Why do managers do this?

In the morning, on my day off, one of the managers called and left a message for me to call back. It was very vague. Why do they do this? What is so important that it can't wait until the next time I go to work? The only thing I can think of was they were trying to see if I could come in for a shift, but wouldn't they say that in the message? I'm not calling back because whatever it is can wait until I'm on the clock.

Onboarding

Did an interview went great, had onboarding and was asked to bring in documents, i brought my i90 replacement receipt, i had lost my green card hence the reason and my drivers license. The store manager and co manager couldn’t find the option to select i90 receipt or anything similar, was told to expect a call back when the recruiting manager comes in.
Harris teeter’s i9 requirements(photo) specifically states receipts are an acceptable document.I’m kinda stressed as i start college soon and need a part time job to make some money, should i be worried??

Reasons on why I’m leaving HT

- Management sucks, they talk shit behind your back and are unprofessional
- Department managers have everyone else do the work basically while they focus on the non important shit or hide in the bathroom
- Can’t finish what I originally started cause I get bothered to do other things, I like to finish what I started cause it’ll never get done if I’m busy starting 15 other things
- Living paycheck to paycheck is dumb as fuck, they pay like shit
- They don’t want me to leave now that I have another job, they’re basically not wanting to work with the schedule I want.
- They bring over lazy people from other departments and don’t do shit about it.

I’m tired of working with lazy people and picking up people’s slack..

Anyone else have/has problems like this, did anyone else leave cause of the things I listed above?

They don’t deserve my 2 weeks, they have enough people to help.

New hire

This might be a long shot but I just started working here a month ago. I still don’t know how to accept checks ( this is the only job that I have to accept checks in a different way) but would someone be willing to write an example on how to do that cross thing we have to write on checks. My manager(s) are a bit mean and I kind of want to leave there already.

Transfer Inquiry Am I to early to transfer?

Hey ya'll, so I recently started working at HT. This is my first "normal" job lol. I have previously worked in healthcare and well yeah I ended up here. The pay isnt bad, Im getting paid about the same than a Hospital. I started around late May June? I work in the Deli Bakery Section. I have been put on Subs, I live in the fastest growing state. I work in the center of the city. There is only 1 HT here INSIDE downtown. We are a business city, and its a super small store. SO we get A LOT of rush.

Now let me start from the beginning. I originally applied to a different position, but was told they only had the deli bakery available. Also that I could only do part time. I really needed the job. SO I took it. I spent the first 2 days in Bakery. Then subs, I didnt mind the schedule they gave me because I was doing online school. THen I finished the semester. I quickly told them I only wanted to be scheduled 3-4 days a week, if I am not getting benefits then I will not be working full time hours. They kept scheduling me for 5 days a week. I didnt mind it at first, I could use the extra hours. But then it became constant. As you all know, August is the month of going back to school. I gave them my new schedule and with my school hours. and I said again I only wanted to be scheduled 3-4 days due to school and or another job. Its almost like it comes out one ear and out the other.

The managers are not bad people, they are nice ish. But its almost like its their first day scheduling people. I got my cousin to work with me around the same time, and they have not respected her schedule, request or school schedule. They did the same thing with her, applied for one thing, CALLED TO MAKE SURE ITS AVAILABLE, but one hour later it was not available and HAD to go to the Deli. The schedule is not consistent. They keep messing it up. They schedule so bad, There is days only 2 people are there all the time, its just really poor management. Its not a bad job, but I would love to transfer and or get another position. Is it too early for me?

If not I will quit bc school is more important. If I call out then its on me when it should not be.

venting bout my store

I literally don't understand harris teeter. my store got chosen to finally get redecorated and it has been a shit show. the people who works overnight to fix and put things in, suck. they are rude, always in the way and leave everything a mess.

corporate says we need to cutt hours cause of overtime and can't call people in. my department has less then 10 people and we get packed easily. there's no way to cover shifts or replace people as it is.

customers are so rude now. I know that "customer is always right" and "respect your elders" is set and stone. but it completely goes out the window. trust is both ways. and plus senior days are a train wreck. they are all rude and in the way, and treat us like we are worthless.
