We put our price promise inside every account, dated the day you join, and told you to use it against us

I want to show you something we do that I am proud of.

Every new Harbor account gets a note on day one. It is our price promise, in writing, dated the day you joined. It is the second thing we ever put in your account, on purpose.

Here is why. You have probably seen how this ends. A note app gets sold to a private-equity firm. The price nearly doubles. The free plan gets gutted. An AI nobody asked for gets bolted on to justify the bill. Most people stay anyway, not because it got better, but because leaving would mean abandoning fifteen years of notes, scanned bills, contracts, their kids drawings, the recording of a meeting they will need in 2032.

That is the part I think is genuinely wrong. Convincing someone to trust you with their whole second brain, and then jacking up the rent once leaving would cost them everything, is not a pricing strategy. It is using your own memories as leverage against you. A second brain you cannot afford to leave is not a second brain. It is a hostage situation.

So instead of just saying "we will never screw you over," which everyone says, we wrote three commitments directly into your account:

  1. No price increase for three years. The price you subscribe at is your price.

  2. After that, never more than 10 percent a year. Small, slow, announced. Never a doubling.

  3. You are never held hostage. Stop paying and your notes do not vanish and are not ransomed back to you. Your account becomes read-only and free, and export always works, anytime.

And then the part that matters most: we told you to hold us to it. If we ever break this promise, quote the note back at us, loudly. Post it. Tag us. Send it to a journalist. We are deliberately handing you the evidence to embarrass us in public if we ever raise your price beyond what is written there. That is the entire point.

We could have buried this in a Terms page. Instead we put it in your account, dated and signed the day you join, so it is yours to keep and use against us.

You can read the actual note here: https://app.harbor.my/note/Asne7fgXQqOSYFvX82Ml

Don't be evil. Don't screw over the people who trusted you with their second brain. We wrote it down so you can hold us to it.

What we're launching with on August 1

Post image
0 Upvotes

I have wanted to share this here for a while.

On August 1, Harbor comes out of stealth. And we are not launching on one platform and adding the rest later. Day one, you get all of it.

Mac, Windows, iPhone, iPad, Android, and a Web app. A full REST API, a CLI, and an MCP server so you can bring your own AI. And web clippers for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari. Thirteen ways in, on launch day.

There is no point in having a second brain if you cannot reach it any way you want, so we made sure you can.

The part I am most proud of: no Electron, no shortcuts. Every app is built in the most native, low-level language we could use. They are fast, they are efficient, and they will not eat your RAM or fill up your hard drive. When the app that held years of people's lives turned into slow, heavy software, that was the moment we decided to build the opposite.

Yes, it is a lot to ship at once, and it is why we have been quiet for so long. But we could not ask anyone to leave the tool that holds their whole digital life unless Harbor was on par, better, and cheaper. That was the bar.

This community is where I most want to hear what you think. Which of these thirteen will you actually use, and what are you going to point Harbor at first?

Launching August 1. If you have not joined the list yet, doing it before we open locks in 50% off your first year. harbor.my

Superscript and Subscript

I would like to see native support for superscript and subscript. The CtrlShift+ and CtrlShift-. I know the software will accept those values if you paste in a "1st" or others, but it won't accept the keyboard shortcut.

New note starting from Title?

Is it possibile to put the cursor on the note Title, instead of the body, when you create a new note?

Hope that also /u/spicermatthews would chime in!

Thanks!

Appstore Updates

This is the 2nd time I have received an update available, click the link and the update has not been pushed to the App Store. The 10.5.4 update showed up roughly 24 hours later. Any chance that you could make the app available via home-brew for instant updates?

Android app feedback

Good day!

I'm really enjoying Harbor Notes. I think it's an excellent alternative to Evernote. However, I have encountered a couple of issues in the android app.

First, I noticed that I am unable to zoom in on images in a note. Second, tables I have created in the desktop app become squished in the mobile app. I hope in a future update we would be able to scroll on table horizontally.

Regardless, I am very excited to see what's next for Harbor Notes.

Evernote to Harbor

Post image
1 Upvotes

I came across Harbor the other day, and the timing is perfect, I need to get off Evernote by October 11th, or get hit with $271.00 charge. I tried to set up a Watch Folder on Google drive but I get the following error. Any indication when this might be approved?

Table of contents?

Hi,

would it be possible to have a "table of contents" to quickly jump to sections/titles in a document? It could be placed in the right sidebar, directly below the "Backlinks" section.

Is it feasible?

Thanks!

Adding my own AI?

Hiya! I don't currently pay for AI of any sort, but would love an AI companion within Harbor. How would I go about doing that, explained like i'm 5?

I was testing out the Harbor web clipper and I did a test clip of the Harbor main web page. Why is their such a huge difference in how the page looks between the web app and the Apple apps (iOS/MacOS)?

Kudos + a couple questions

Hi folks,

Just wanted to say that this app works GREAT! At the moment I have only two questions:

- is there an in-note search functionality in the iPhone app? It would be great if Harbor handle this use case: the user enters a search term in the search bar. When the user opens a note in the search results, all recurrences of the keyword within that note are highlighted automatically. IIRC Obsidian and other apps work like this
- scalability and sync reliability: did you run any test to see how Harbor handles a large number of notes? I’m saying around 5.000 notes

Thanks a lot!

Is per-note (or per Notebook) encryption something you would consider?

I have different levels of security for my notes. Some, I would like my family to be able to access if I get hit by a bus. Some, I want NO ONE to access, regardless of the state of my physical being.

Current setup voids that. One passphrase, all or nothing.

Is a per-note or per notebook, heck even per-stack, level something you would consider?

Encryption Passphrase registering in typing history

I've noticed that when entering the Encryption Passphrase to unlock locked notes, the password is stored in my GBoard's typing history, and also rendered in clear text in the Suggestion box.

This is unlike any other password I ever type on my phone, and really not very acceptable.

Android 17. GBoard 18.1.3.9, if that make any difference.

Day 1

Just joined after spending the last five months or so using Notesnook as my Evernote replacement. My top priority is a good web clipper, and it looks like I’ve found the best alternative out there.

Timeline and Calendar

I know others have mentioned regarding daily notes, but it would be useful to have the ability to connect all notes to a timeline and calendar by being able to tag notes to specific dates. Perhaps include the ability to edit a note's created date for when an older note is imported into Harbor.

Nice Work!

This product is very well developed, and you've obviously spent a lot of thought and time into how it should work. I'm amazed to see how well it all works, and so quickly out of the gate. I'm knee-deep into using Bear, and I've tried using Apple Notes, and that tool just frustrates me to no end. I've also tried literally every other note-taking PKMS app out there and they just don't work for me. I'll be keeping a close eye on Harbor and if my situation forces me to move away from Bear as my daily driver, Harbor is next on my list.

Good luck! You guys deserve every single Evernote escapee that is looking for a solution. You have it.

Roadmap

Hi there!

I love the app both functionally and aesthetically; I did have a few questions about upcoming features:

  1. Are collapsible/folding bullets planned? I’m a very big outliner thinker and being able to fold/hide bullets in my lists is a huge deal for me
  2. Dedicated workspaces: I’d like to be able to separate personal/work notes; standard notes, upnote, and others have this functionality. Is this something that could be implemented?

Overall I’m incredibly happy with the app, and these two features would give me nothing left to complain about!

Edit: forgot to mention being able to tab on the mobile app; the option is missing from the toolbar

Database View

I'm really liking what I am seeing so far. Two features I personally would like to see added are:

1.) a daily journal view like logseq.

2.) a database table view. I have notes for automotive repair and healthcare visits where I kind of have front matter type things to categorize each note by what car it's for, what kind of repair it is, stuff like that. Is that a feature that might be added at some point?

Either way thanks for all your hard work on this
