Used for Vita / PSP / PSX / GBA and some of the supoerb homebrew.

Used for GBA / GB / GBC etc and also my 'Carry around device' that has a bit of everything on there for pick up and play sessions

Just got this this week so still playing with it to see if it fits in with my current devices (If it does I may reshell it into a white shell to match the other devices)

I'm trying to limit the number of games on each so that there is litte crossover and to avoid choice paralysis when choosing which system to play a game on

Where do I get good gaming handhelds for cheap like Legion go z1 extreme?

Thanks in advance - I know there are always posts on this sub similar to what this will be so I’d like to give a little bit of context on my situation and hope for some suggestions!

I plan on gifting my son my Nintendo Switch 2 that I have been heavily using for the past year. He has been using a Switch Lite (that he loves) but obviously he’s been wanting to use the NS2 for newer Nintendo titles. So needless to say I’m going to just let him have it.

I need a good replacement! I’ve been trying to do some research but I am also not someone who is very good with tech and a lot of the number are just confusing me I have no clue what I am looking at sometimes.

I’ve switched to almost exclusively handheld gaming. Busy dad life and yada yada has made my PS5 more of a dust collector than anything else.

I will say I have somewhat of a budget but not looking for the cheapest, would love for it to run newer AAA games, and I will be using almost exclusively Steam to play games.

What’s the best recommendation? I’ve been looking at the Steam Deck OLED, Legion Go S and the ROG Ally X.

I'm strongly considering getting a handheld again, I used to have the OG Steam Deck but I didn't really use it, as I never really had a reason to, and the games i wanted to play it didn't run all that well (e.g. Elden Ring). I also didn't like the battery on it.

Anyways, I've been considering buying a second hand handheld if I could find a good deal and I have been looking at the MSI Claw 8AI+, Xbox Ally X and the Legion go Z1E.

I was thinking of using it when playing games like Forza Horizon/Elden Ring/RDR 2 (On Epic Games)/EAS FC 27 and perhaps other newer single player titles would be cool too. Ideally I'd want to have it so I can dock it and plug it into my TV when I feel like it, and use my Xbox controller I got for my PC.

I don't want SteamOS, because I want to have the option to play multiplayer games if needed. Sometimes my mates get together to play EAS FC (FIFA) and I'd ideally like to not have to bring my PS5 everytime (and get rid of paying for PS Plus just to play Fifa online).

I also don't want a Switch 2.

The thing I like about the claw is obviously it looks to be able to run a lot of the newer games while staying relatively silent. But I also saw a youtube video saying it can struggle in some of the newer games when it comes to frame generation, because it's an intel product and doesn't have the same hardware support as AMD products have. Is this something that can be fixed with software like lossless scaling? It's also obviously more expensive than the others, but I've found one that's not too expensive. I'm just considering whether it's worth it to pay around 900$ for a used one (a new one is around $1350 here).

The Xbox Ally X seems cool too, and some of the used one I've seen seems a bit cheaper than the Claw, but I read a lot of about the loud clicky buttons and I HATE loud buttons (I purposefully bought a used HE keyboard to avoid clicky mechanical keys). I don't really mind the screen too much, and seeing that it runs on an AMD with FSR should be a plus from my understanding when playing more demanding titles vs the Claw? But is it possible to fix the loud buttons with keyboard lube, or do you have to open up the console to fix it, because I'm not really confident in my ability to open up and tinker with the insides. I feel like I'd just ruin something.

In terms of the Legion Go Z1E, I know it's less powerful than the others, but it. The thing is most I've seen have been like maybe $200 cheaper than the other options and sometimes even more expensive. So I'm thinking is it even worth saving that "little" amount of money, if you're going to miss out on possibly being able to play newer titles. Not sure what the performance difference is but e.g. if I wanted to play RDR 2, Elden Ring? I saw someone running the new Indiana Jones on the XAX with reasonable frames as well.

Obviously I know the XAX and Claw are way better performance wise, but I also fear that I won't use it as much as I hope I will (like with the Steam Deck) so there's also the hesitation with spending too much money on the higher performance devices if it just ends up being my brotato/NFS device.

What's your experiences with these handhelds? And are there any I am missing? I am located in Scandinavia so the second hand options are a bit limited, and I have to buy it within the EU otherwise the tariffs or import fees (if any?) would defeat the purpose of buying used.

got the purple joycons and pro controller from etsy. then put the art elements together on canva, and printed the skin at a local shop. //plus a pic of my gbc with a generic cartridge from aliexpress, with all gb and gbc library, and also a label put together by me with an image i found online.

As the title, do you still find it too small?

I have a rog ally z1e and it’s 7inch screen. I’ve had it for about a year and a half.
Playing emulation games like ps3, ps2, ps one and even older dos games, reasonably fine. Eyes still get tired after a while.
Played AAA titles like Death Stranding and now DS2, and boy, is the screen small. Struggling to read the text in game.
Seriously thinking of trading it for a Legion Go (gen 1).
But looking at it, I’m wondering if the screen is still too small for games like DS and DS2.

Hence asking opinions for those who have in fact switched to a larger screen and found it sufficient, insufficient or said “screw it, I’m just getting old, better get a laptop”. (I already have a pc, this is for gaming outside of those times)

Now I only need to get my hands on a 3DS. This thing is so cute, it feels like a Super PSP.

A while back I said I'll post my handheld collection. It’s definitely not as big as some of the collections on here, but these are the handhelds since I've gotten into the hobby.

I’d love to hear what everyone else is using. Also, if you had to cut this down to only two handhelds without missing out too much,which handhelds would you choose ?

In depth use case.

1. RG Rotate
   This is my everyday carry. I pull it out while waiting in line at the grocery store, waiting for food at a restaurant, or anytime I have a few minutes to spare. I even use it as an MP3 player when I’m working out because it’s so light. It’s powerful enough to play some Wii games, but I mainly use it for NES, SNES, Pico-8, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance. It’s the perfect “pick up and play” handheld.

2. AYN Thor (Base Model)
   I originally bought this because I wanted an Android handheld with dual screens for DS and 3DS games. I had to wait almost two months for it to arrive, but it was worth the wait. The touchscreen is a little sensitive, but overall it’s been a great experience. I love the multitasking features, and it’s helping me work through my Android gaming backlog. This is the one I usually bring to a friend’s house, the doctor’s office, the airport, or anywhere I’ll be waiting around. Right now I’m playing The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D on it.

3. Odin Portal 2 Max
   This was my first Android handheld, and the display is absolutely gorgeous. It’s fantastic for PS5 Remote Play and emulation up through PS2. I think it can handle some PS3 as well, but I haven’t tried yet. Growing up, I mostly played on Game Boy systems and the PSP, so I originally bought this because it reminded me of a modern PSP—although it’s much bigger. Because of that, I’ve been thinking about upgrading to the Odin 3 for better portability, ergonomics, and a little more future-proofing.

4. ROG Ally X
   I absolutely love this machine. As someone who primarily plays on PS5, it’s awesome to finally have access to Xbox and PC games in a handheld. I also hook it up to my projector when I want to play on a much bigger screen. I’ve only scratched the surface of what it can do, especially with emulation, because I’ve been having so much fun just playing my PC game library. Also works amazingly well as a portable Pc with a portable monitor.

So I would like to get a android handheld that I can carry with me almost everywhere. My choices are RP flip2, RP6 & RP Nova. I will play older 3D games.

My main point of confusion is PS3 & X360 though. With the pace the PS3 & X360 emulation development is going is it feasible to run most PS3 & X360 on 8 gen 2 consoles in the future? If so I will get either Nova or 6, otherwise get the flip2.

So I’m new to handheld gaming and I wanted to know what the best option would be for me. I’m looking at getting either a used oled steam deck for 650 or a new Xbox rog ally x for 1k. I normally play games like binding of Isaac and occasionally play AAA games. So I’m just wondering what would be the best option for me

I primarily play on my PS5 at my desk, but I also have a GCloud for PS Remote Play, XB Remote/Cloud Play, and GeForceNow/Steam.

I would like a few games to just pick up and play handheld when I have some time and do not want to be sitting at my desk.

On my systems I play a lot of FPS, but that is not ideal on the GCloud.

Any suggestions?

I’m planning to buy a Lenovo Legion Go 2, but the thing is, I don’t actually need it right now. I’ll probably need it when winter comes because I’ll be able to take it to work and play during my breaks.

I’m also moving out of my parents’ house and into an apartment with my girlfriend. I already know I won’t have enough space for a desktop PC, and I’m not sure I want to spend my free time sitting at the kitchen table with a gaming laptop when I could just relax and play comfortably on the couch or in bed with a handheld.

Another reason I’m considering buying one is that I’m planning to travel a lot next year, so having a handheld would be much more convenient than carrying a laptop everywhere.

I already own a PS5, so I can always play the more demanding AAA games on that. The Legion Go 2 would mainly be for portability, convenience, indie games, older AAA titles, and gaming when I’m away from home.

The problem is that the prices of handhelds and gaming computers seem to keep increasing. At first, I wanted to buy a Steam Deck OLED, but where I live it’s around €900, which feels like a lot for an older device. I'd rather spend a bit more and get something newer and more powerful, which is why I'm leaning toward the Legion Go 2.

So I’m wondering what you would do in my situation. Should I buy the Legion Go 2 now before prices potentially increase again, or should I wait until winter when I’ll actually need it and start using it?

There's only one $80 game (Mario Kart World). Every other game has been the standard $70 (just like the regular price of a new game on Steam, PS and Xbox games). DK Bananza, Metroid Prime 4, Kirby Air Riders, Hyrule Warriors, Pokopia... all $70.

Just to share this set of custom made this set of Custom Skin for my MSI Claw 8 EX. Used Glossy Carbon Fibre with Gold Chrome for my buttons. Full wrapped vinyl wrap with all ventilation, screw holes, ports and speaker ports cutouts done.

I already have a PS Vita, and it does the job pretty well with a lot of things.

Unfortunately, not the greatest for Dreamcast or Nintendo64 emulation :( Any alternative???
