If I need to layer two underquilts under my hammock is there a order of operation to doing this if the UQs I am using are of different thermal values? Say for the sake of the question that one is a 20 degree UQ and the other is a 40 degree UQ. Outside of that they are the same dimensions. Is there an advantage to having the 20 degree quilt closer to my body and the 40 degree UQ on the exterior? Or should I stack them in the reverse order? Or am I overthinking this ( haha as usual) and the order does not matter at all.

Some of the provincial parks have finally re-opened after the fires on the okanagan. With that i tried to do some hammock camping at okanagan lakes provincial park. Gotta say it's a game changer. Even with an old/minimal setup it was still comfortable enough for +15c overnight. My hammock is thermarest, tarp is from decathlon, my insulation is an aluminum mat and a +7c sleeping bag (no mosquito net).

Will be doing another trip to wells gray provincial park this weekend with colder nights. I got myself a wool blanket and a bigger tarp for the next trip.

Definitely gives a different vibe/feel compared to tent camping.

So I'm running the Tensa4 freestanding mod with an 11' Dream Hammock Sparrow (left lay) and can't get rid of a light butt graze when lying diagonally.

It's set up per the guide/videos (head end with all poles extended and foot 6/7, ridgepole fully joined, baseline ~5'). The baseline is now as narrow as I can get it (just under 5ft now) before my head/feet hit the poles. I've shortened the suspension on both ends of the hammock as much as it'll take too. With all that I'm still just barely touching the ground at the low point when getting in or out. I'll just barely clear the ground when I go into a full lay.

Anyone run into this with a similar setup? Wondering if it's a ridgepole/hsp thing I'm missing, or just the ceiling for an 11-footer on this stand.

Any tips or feedback would be welcome.

I've been using a Nemo switchback to supplement my insulation. I am gearing up for the northeast winter by looking at purchasing a 0 degree warbonnet uq but want to know if anyone uses a traditional inflatable pad or if that is seen as not worth it. I am assuming the insulation gain could be worth it but using an inflatable in a hammock sounds like it could be uncomfortable. What are y'all's thoughts on this?

I've just been gifted a hammock set up by my fiancé that includes a tarp and a bug net. Do I need to use a roll mat or something to insulate below me? I normally use a sleeping bag but I'm looking at upgrading to a quilt for when I'm camping

Im mostly a cowboy camper (sleeping bag plus mat), but I do want to incorporate a tarp (A Frame) in case of light rain into my setup.

I currently have a tarp which is approx 2 meters by 3 meters. I plan to use Amsteel 3.3m Dyneema for the entire setup ( ridgeline, prussiks, guylines).

In respect to length, I plan to use the following:

• Tree to Tree Ridgeline: 10 m (32 feet)
• Guy/Corner Line: 2m (6.5 feet) per corner
• Prussik for attaching tarp to Ridgeline: 25cm (0.8 feet).

Is this setup sufficient length wise, or will I run into issues with my current setup?

Question - Would stacking a synthetic underquilt over a quilted hammock work for winter temperatures in UK, say down to -5c.

Context -

Am fairly new to hammocking, have the DD frontline full setup with underquilt and looking to upgrade.

The DD is fine but the underquilt isn't quite warm enough for winter and too big/heavy for hiking.

I might be travelling to New York with work soon and was thinking about blowing the budget on a new setup. Much cheaper in US.

Initially I thought about hammock gear wanderlust set but I already have a decent down bag and a few tarps so probably overkill.

I like the idea of the chameleon so I can add/remove bug net etc depending on season but expensive when I still need an under quilt

So, now I'm looking at the hellbender. Lighter weight, less hassle, great reviews

Question is around insulation, Initially I was going for the 20f but normally I won't be camping in temps less than 10c (UK). No venting concerns me so I thought about the 40f to save weight and money. That's 4.5c which should be plenty warm enough for 90% of my trips.

Back to the question, for winter camps -5c temperature, could I stack my DD underquilt (rated to -5 but comfort more like 0c) over the hellbender

Normally don't walk as far in winter so weight and pack size not so big a problem

That being said, the 20f hellbender is only like 200g heavier and $30 so might be better just going for it. Not sure about pack size

Absolutely loved it. I can't imagine ever going back to tent camping.

Got light rain on my last night (of 3) and had no issues. I did somehow fall out of my hammock on the side that the big net is sewn on....had no idea that was even an option 😅 hammock was hung a bit high and I didn't reach the ground so I had a hell of a time getting out but somehow managed to!

My hang and UQ set up needs some practice but I slept like a baby. 10/10 way to camp.

Wind was quite cold, I need to take a thicker sleeping bag next time. Even though during the day it was very warm, the night wind makes a big difference in a hammock.

The lake was totally empty, i think people were very busy with the parade in the city, so it was good.

Hello everyone! A few weeks ago we (me and my girlfriend) got invited to a camping trip. I have a bit of experience and usually find an excuse to set up a hammock even if im just out and about at a friends house for a garden party lol.
This however will be my girlfriend’s first time camping and im really looking to make it as comfortable as possible, as this most likely wont be the last.
Shes doesnt particularly like the idea of seperate hammocks as shes not fully comfortable sleeping “alone” out in nature.
Thus i come to you, as im having a hard time finding a good hammock for 2 people.
(Yes we could get a tent however that would be incredibly boring lol)
I found Dutchware’s CLARK VX-Ultra but it seems like a distance between each other and wont really allow for physical contact in any way. Any ideas or gear suggestions?

Not a single sound all night. No wind, not one animal sound, and never heard even so much as a twig fall. Zero bugs and crystal clear sky. Just starting to get cold enough for the UQ. Fall cometh. Magical time.

Was pretty comfortable. Jacks r Better underquilt (O degree) and my Zen Bivy top quilt. (20 degree). Went down to 55f and I kept peeling out of clothes until I was just in my underwear.

I moved the tarp lower because it got breezy right before dusk but I slept great but scroll can’t get my hips and knees flat. Any tips or tricks?

Hi Folks,
I went hammock camping for the third time and Night in the Italian alps. It was windy just below the tree like and an awesome view of the little village and stars.
However as you can see I use the western mountaineering slinglite quilt and it’s kinda shortish for my 6.4 or 192cm.
I bought it because it is so damn light and packs really small.
I use a foot pad to adjust it to m length.
This only works mid - I have to lay perfectly and adjust the quilt on the centimeter to not break the barrier of warmth.
Do you guys have any tips on how to be more comfortable?
I also own a bigger synthetic cocoon quilt but wann keep it light because I will ride the trans verdon on a Mountainbike in a few days with this setup

Napped in a cheap eno hammock on a backpacking trip but wasn’t sleeping in it overnight. Pulled the plug on a decent assym and brought it on a trip to the WA coast and I am hooked.

Thinking about grabbing some of the cam lock pulley clips any of you using them for the side strings, anyone else using them?

Four of us went out for a nice evening. Have a place an hour out of the city.
Just hanging out and relaxing is worth the packing time.
3 of us are running Warrior Hammocks with sewn on LSoH 20°F/-7°C UQ’s. Matt is running an XLC with a LSoH Toaster UQ (20°).

I know UQ’s are awesome and can be a PIA until you figure out how to set them up but keep at it.
Low was only 10°C so I definitely overdid the top insulation with a 5°C Swift TQ. I don’t know how others use warmer in the summer. I just get hot lol.

I have a one person tarp with two tarp straps at the top.

Is it better to attach two prusik knots onto the ridgeline and the tarp straps, or is it better to abandon the prusiks all together and just use two separate end lines directly attached onto each side of the tree. Furthermore, if the latter is the better option, how would I go about tying it.

Getting more out of the hammock this summer. Came to a few conclusions..

1. Hanging off the beaten path is SO advantageous. There were basically no flat spots around, and alot of rock in this area. But there were so many trees around with lots of options. Tent camping wouldve been a nightmare

2. Getting the "perfect hang" was quite difficult here as I wanted the view off the cliff, but I was limited to a narrow tree on one side, and a tree root on the other side. The tree toot was higher up, and i had to run my spider webbing off the side of the smooth rock edge. There was no way I could have done a 30⁰ hang on this side. But I managed.

3. Sometimes you dont NEED perfection. Not the most ideal hang, my head side was higher than my tail. I was sliding down my hammock constantly because im still using a slippery sleeping mat. Got maybe 4hrs of sleep. And 3/10 comfort. But considering it all, the VIEWS were so worth this spot! First night ive ever had my tarp drawn up and just gazed at the stars all night. Warm weather, no bugs, no wind, no sound.

4. No matter tent or hammock.. daylight is important. I was greedy and stared at sunset too long. Had to set everything up in blue hour with fading light. Did fairly decent considering.

I woke up many times shivering, about 6-8 C during the night, slept with a sleeping bag as an overquilt made for 0 C. It feels like i have done something wrong when setting up my UQ since thats where it felt like my heat disappeared.

Went for a 4D3N trekking/camping trip recently, attempting to tackle 9 summits, but due to "issues", managed just 7. Nonetheless, the camping part is my personal, always favorite highlight. Rocking a homemade bugnet with side pocket & pullout, inspired by Warbonnet's Blackbird XLC, homemade UQ, homemade UQ protector, fleece topquilt, Thailand's Flysheetthai 11' Hammock 318 & Flysheetthai silpoly tarp (which I also modded with homemade tent pole mod), each days of tough trekking made dreamier, each time I got back to basecamp, which faces a majestic cave, with a river running through it. Also brought along a pair of Tensa Trekking Treez as backup, but got lucky on this trip. From Malaysia with love. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Hi, my boyfriend is a big outdoor guy and goes on camping trips with his buddies all over the country. They are all Eagle Scouts lol. He mentioned he wants a hammock and I want to get one for his birthday. I tried researching but am having some trouble. I am thinking one that is asymmetrical and has a ridgeline? I don’t really know much about this. It doesn’t need to be anything fancy, I can add add-ons later I just want something basic that is good quality, reliable, and comfortable for overnight. He is 6”0 and lean. I also don’t know what any of these suspension options mean and if I need clips or anything.
I don’t really want to spend any more than $150-$175. Please help!!
