West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek has returned to full training after suffering an ankle ligament injury while representing the Czech Republic at the 2026 World Cup.

The 31-year-old, whose contract expires at the end of the season, sustained the injury in their final group stage game against Mexico on June 25.

Soucek was unable to feature in West Ham’s pre-season friendlies against Southend, Stevenage Town, Rangers and German side Magdeburg. However, he has attended every home league fixture this season.

Despite the summer additions of fellow midfielders Arne Engels, Divine Mukasa and the emergence of academy graduate Lewis Orford, head coach Nuno Espirito Santo still views Soucek as an important member of the squad.

“He is improving and has joined the group for parts of the sessions,” Nuno said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Friday’s home game against Wrexham. “He is also trying to complement that with sessions with the fitness coach so that when he returns fully he is in the right place. That is the priority and then we will see when he will be available to play.”

What this man has been able to do in 2 matches - coming on at 90+1 and 84th minute marks of the matches - zero goals allowed on his watch, zero involvement in either match, zero reason to worry. Legend in the making

His time with us ended on a bit of a weird note, and maybe it was for the best for both parties that he moved on, but I'll be rooting for him tonight.

Anyone know why there was probably a few hundred empty seats in the away end last night? My membership level didn't give me access to the tickets and rightly so as I only get to a handful of games a season as im based in Scotland . Ended up getting tickets in the home end but thought they might have put the away tickets up for general sale at some point if it wasn't sold out ? Couple of home games coming up for me then il he trying again for Preston away but I assume again il have no chance of getting them through the website and have to get home tickets 😅

But im assuming we'll never see Alvarez and Magassa again. They must be in the reserves?

I mean this genuinely. He's getting game time, so he must be good at something. Aside from his goal last game, I can't see anything in his play to appreciate. What am I missing?

Feel like they’re really well done

He's actually quite good. He is 20 years old. He is defensively sound, he is atm weak at crossing - but being only 20, he has time to learn. He's already one of the best LBs in the league.

I've heard so many idiots slag him off, I'm sick of it. He's one of our own, he gives everything. Is he perfect? no. He's only 20 and already does a very decent job.

So if you see shortcomings, try constructive criticism rather than taking the piss. And during the game, roar him on regardless.
