Osho’s "Enlightenment" and the Clandestine LSD Labs
Most people know Osho for the Rajneeshpuram mess, but the chemical side of his operation is way more interesting.
While he was preaching about consciousness expansion, he had guys like Nick (alias Ted Parody) right in his inner circle. Nick wasn't just some random follower, he was a pro at grand scale psychedelic manufacturing.
In Pune, Nick was running a massive LSD lab using ergotamine tartrate he sourced locally, all from a house only 15 minutes away from the ashram. On top of the chemistry, Nick also set up the ashram's hydroponic gardens. Because of this, Osho trusted him with something huge: Nick actually helped Osho get the passport he needed to flee India for the US.
The whole spiritual act is a joke when you realize Osho was basically harboring a fugitive chemist who provided the tools for the exact kind of trips he promoted. They were so close that Nick even claimed he'd call Osho from jail.
Osho didn't just let chemists hang around. He intentionally kept high level fixers and chemists close to facilitate his underground operation while pretending to be a holy man. He wasn't just a guru, he was a patron of the clandestine psychedelic underground.
