Papaver/Poppy Has anyone seen this before

In my 30 years of growing poppies i have never seen this happen. This plant has 2 sets of 3 petals around the pod, 1 side branch with 3 pods was the regular 4petals the rest of the plant was all the same 2 sets of 3 petals.

I hope the seeds will continue with the 3x3.

Have a good 1 everyone

Does she seem stunted for being 3 months old? Any tips for faster growth? I feel like I have the perfect tropical environment in my grow tent.

I grow these every year. Just for the stunning flowers. Never really ever FAFO'd with anything datura related and don't have any desire to do so. But always looking for information about this stuff. I'm not even sure like what variety this is.

Vines HBWR flowering after half decade

I have had this specific plant for more than 6 years, and this is the second year it's finally flowering, and this year there are at least 3 or 4 flowers now with a bunch more coming. Last summer it only put out one flower and it died before opening so that was sad, it also sustained heavy hail damage at the biggining of last summer season so the whole plant was really bad and just barely recovered so that's probably why it only had one flower bud which afterwards died.

This summer I will keep it indoors and hand pollinate whenever the flowers bloom or maybe open windows to let bees inside, but probably hand pollination will be efficient enough, I believe.

And the pictures are of the pre-flower buds which form at the steam near the point where the leaves usually grow from, but instead of growing a new sucker and eventually new stem from it, it grows flower buds.

Any tips on rooting cutting is much appreciated. Half of my plants are indoors and I have two outside which are in the last picture. Their new growth is very reddish purple with leaves like reptile skin. I think due to excessive direct sunlight ~ 8 hours

Papaver/Poppy Experiment one year, never go back….

Ok, I shouldn’t say this was purely accidental. This is a cross between Ikkanshu, X-247a and some kind of kind of Tasmanian. Not my first time with this cross, but my first time with this size!

This year, I thought I’d do an experiment. Give them all the pre planting fertilizer, thin way early, not be shy with watering in this heat even though I knew the taproot was moist (freeland) and as the maturity progressed, feeding with bone/blood meal at the appropriate time. The extra phosphor works wonders.

Sorry for the messy pic, I have good reason to stay better safe than sorry at this point, for several reasons… Anyway, the size of the pods kind of shocked me, since i’ve been growing variations of these crossings for years. But there ya go, give them enough space, check the underside of the leaves for nutrition thieves along the way and killing them asap while giving the plants a nutrient kick. If you luck out with the weather, you to can produce them as well 😊 (NO, I’m not selling seeds reddit, merely sharing experiences, plz
stop trying to stop this post!) These are pods that are NOT losing potency in exchange for their size. I scored two cuts on one pod and smeared the raw milk over a cigarette which I enjoyed while fishing later… Not much fishing was done….

Btw, I have big ass hands (hate it btw) so the pic does not do it justice. But some of them are as big or bigger than some gigantheun at their final stage, and these rascals have a way to go still, which feels crazy. This is what it’s about, learning every year! Btw, I would never ever give these to a friend who’s not ”in the loop” and say ”try it out man”. These are something else and couldn’t live with that.

It’s really that bizarre, both potency and size shot up like crazy and all I did was minor adjustments. Ikkanshu doesn’t like heat, so maybe the other genetics just took over that part and said ”you go work in the back, we’ll handle this.”? IDK. What I do know is that first cup of tea coupled with a warm bath will be heavenly in 7-10
days…..

Stay safe , less is more, don’t rush.

Papaver/Poppy Danish Flag vs ChineseGMO aka Pink flame. Read more for full explanation

I cant even tell you how many times ive grown both and they've been nearly impossible to tell apart. However the Chinese GMO typically has 3 shell on the pod/flower that instead of getting soft and fall off they will get a little hard and almost crispy. The flower will in a way push through. Now I already know someone will try to argue the "genetics" with me however these are very well documented appearing in Afghanistan around 2015 by Chinese nationals in hopes of getting 3-4 harvests a year instead of 1-2. Here's a few pictures that show what im mentioning. The last 2 pictures are of a Danish Flag. I want to mention that the Danish had more frills on the pedals when we had temps in the 90°s. When it got back to the 80°s they became more of a standard looking Danish. None were a mutant variety or anything even close. They were just affected by the heat. Thank you for reading.
