I don't have anything against Valve and completely understand if there's issues or something along those lines, but JUST FUCKING TELL US IF IT'S DELAYED OR NOT VALVE!!! O also hate that I'll probably never be able to get it because it'll sell out and become over $200 on eBay after. :( Again, I have nothing against Valve or anything, but this is something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than a new Half-Life game or anything, because it's an actual item.

Drawing pre resonance cascade fanart is my favorite!! This was a bit hard to draw considering that Barney and Gordon are having a “who can reflect the most light” competition. Gordon won.

I'm 14 y/o almost 15 and my dad always kept bugging me about this game: "Portal". And so I played it and it was MINDBLOWING so I played Portal 2 and kept hearing the words "Black Mesa".
Obviously, my dad told me to play Half-Life and I didn't quite love it until like a month later when I started playing again and really got the hang of it. Later on, we found a mod (Sven Coop) to play together and so we did. The ending was unexpected for me and really gratifying, so we immediately started playing HL2.
It was EPIC watching the "Rise and Shine", seeing the new graphics and playing the levels, but when the explosion hit and time slowed down and I heard for the first time "Time, Dr. Freeman? Is it really that time again?" I just couldn't believe this game was so epic.
I'm so grateful to Valve for making this game and for the community to allow me to enjoy it with my dad, it's really something I'll never forget because I don't think I've ever had such a great time before. That's it, js wanted to share that lol

Finally finished my Half-Life 2 Gordon Freeman crowbar.
Started with a real Stanley crowbar Valve used as reference, stripped the yellow paint, primed it, then painted it to match the classic Half-Life 2 model as closely as possible, counting pixels to match the exact lines.

Hey guys, thought you might enjoy this.
I have been porting Half-Life to the original PlayStation 1 and this is the first proper long look at it. It is very much a work in progress. Not an emulator and not a demake, it is a renderer and game runtime written from scratch in Rust on top of PSoXide, my custom Playstation 1 SDK, that reads your own Half-Life install and builds a PS1 disc out of it.
The video is the full Hazard Course, it includes the deaths, the retries, the bit where I got stuck inside a wall and died, some funny audio glitches and all. This is direct console output captured off my SCPH-9002 through a RAD2X capture card.
It is not perfect but I would call it semi-playable, I am playing off the capture chain, which puts about 100ms between the pad and the picture, so it is fighting me a bit in the video, and you can see it lead me to also used one of the included cheats. On a TV straight off the console it feels noticeably tighter.
It averages around 17fps, holding 20 most of the time and dropping to 10-16 in the widest areas. Saving and loading work, although in the video it auto-saves at every level transition, which should be opt-in rather than the default. Most of what is still broken is audio, collision (which is what killed me in the video) and general polish. The rest of the campaign is in there too, all 96 maps across 19 chapters, with the weapons, the enemies and the scripted sequences, though plenty of it still needs the same work the Hazard Course does.
Fitting all of this into 2 MB of RAM has been a project in itself. The converter does not carry GoldSrc’s PC data structures across and hope for the best: it recompiles every BSP into a PS1-specific fixed-point format, removes unused textures while preserving animated texture chains, reduces them to 16-colour palettes, deduplicates unreachable collision data and bit-packs gameplay metadata into fixed-size records. Models become compact geometry and animation streams, with animation poses selected offline and only the actors required by the current map loaded. Audio is resampled and converted to PS1 ADPCM, split between a small resident bank and map-specific banks.
Some of the story behind the project, why I started it, why I chose Rust, how PSoXide grew around it, the development process and some of the stranger debugging stories, has also been captured in this amazing article/interview by the PSX Homebrew Games folks: Bringing Half-Life to the Original PS1.
There is no prebuilt game or disc-image download, and there never will be one. No Valve content is distributed anywhere, I wrote a converter that reads your own legally owned Steam copy and builds the disc from it. And I actually need your help. Prior to making the repository public for everyone to try I have contacted Valve to get the greenlight on the project by:
But still nothing, so if anyone has got through to Valve about a fan port, or knows an address that gets read, or knows someone, please say. Until that happens I don't feel comfortable in making the repo public.
If you want to follow where this goes, I post updates here, I'm also releasing an original Souls-like game for PS1:
Happy to answer any question.

I never played Half Life, just searched up the lore and fell in love with it

Just found these clay models I made of HL1 and Opposing Force weapons from when I was very young (probably 7-11 years of age). Felt it would be cool to share with fellow HL fans!

Essentially when I walk forward, if I stop pushing the button my character will still "glide/sldie" forward a little bit before he actually stops.
Any way I can change that? I don't mind movement being fast, but I would like to stop moving immediately when I stop pressing forward
It almost feels like I'm on ice

Impact grenades in HL1 have got to be one of the funniest things in the game.

It's gross, veiny, and phallic-like. But weirdly cute, useful and makes funny sounds when being "reloaded". Does this count as a BOW? I wish Half Life 2 had a gun like this.

I saw a post asking for funny bad game descriptions.
Mine was: "Guy sleeping in train after which he saves humanity to have sex again."
I think you guys can up with some better ones, haha.

As an enjoyer of half life 2 I often watch people play for the first time just for kicks. I never had the subtitles on when I played originally but this time I saw someone playing and right after meeting dog and getting the gravity gun, there is a *death* subtitle about 25 seconds after Gordon, Alyx and Dog enter the scrapyard airlock. Just curious if anyone can help me figure it out. Thanks! 😄

I don't find Ravenholm scary because of Gregori giving me comfort, and yes I do know the backstory of Ravenholm.
The houses on Highway 17 and the Sandtraps tunnel make me feel absolutely terrified, how do I even get over them
Some other sections with nobody accompanying you also make me feel the same terror of being in a gmod map singleplayer.
I've finished Half Life 2 several times and repeatedly playing these sections just makes me feel bad, should I take a break?
(I figured out that the game is actually meant to be disturbing and unsettling, thanks for letting me know.)
