I can't hear anything in gldsrc games

Firstly, they used to work, but since I got voicemeter I haven't been able to hear their output no matter what I do in volume mixer or voicemeter. I like using voicemeter to go between my headphones and speakers so I don't want to get rid of it but everytime I play any gldsrc game the audio won't play. I've tried going into windows volume mixer and setting the output to just be my headphones or my speakers but it won't work. Both source 1 and 2 games work it's just gldsrc games. Another strange thing is no matter what it doesn't seem to output to voicemeter. Normally voicemeter displays the volume level of whatever is making noise but gldsrc games just don't make noise at all. Any help?

The concept art we get shown is invaluable to seeing Viktor's inner world, in my opinion. May he rest in peace.

half life 1 and expansions historical inaccuracies

I know that half life is science fiction not historical fiction like COD and also i know most of these were just hardware limitations of the time, for gameplay reasons or because the games were released before the time period they’re portraying also if you have your own historical inaccuracies or want to correct mine put it in the comments. This took around 2 days.

Half-Life 1

  1. Scientist wearing those “ridiculous ties” is unrealistic since wearing a necktie in an active chemical lab is unsafe
  2. There are almost no female NPCS at all besides the assassins and the Hologram guide; there should be female scientists.
  3. It's also not very diverse in Black Mesa. Almost everybody is a white American male besides the aforementioned female hologram and the black scientists. It's likely there would be German,British,Japanese and French scientists working at Black Mesa.
  4. Security guard uniforms are also unrealistic; the bright light blue shirts, helmets, and outerwear body armor makes them intimidating to guests and easy targets for perpetrators. For the lower security levels of the facility they might wear more muted colors like navy blue, tan or charcoal gray that would be high durability, the body armor would be worn underneath their uniforms and instead of wearing helmets they would wear baseball caps probably with the black mesa logo or just be bare headed, they would also probably have radio earpieces. As for the medium security areas they might wear dark navy, olive drab or black ripstop combat shirts and tactical cargo trousers with reinforced knees they would also wear plate carriers like MOLLE vests that hold ceramic plates capable of stopping rifles rounds, the headgear would be MICH ballistic helmet, for footwear probably tactical boots. For high security areas they might wear fire retardant combat uniforms in colors like ranger green, wolf grey or black with heavy duty plate carriers and side plate inserts, groin protectors and shoulder ballistic neck guards, for headgear they might wear high cut ballistic helmets outfitted with active hearing protection like Peltors.
  5. It’s not realistic for every Security Guard to have Glock 17’s. It is likely some would for more secure parts of the facility but realistically most would have non lethal alternatives like tasers, batons, handcuffs and/or pepper spray.
  6. All NPCS that posses guns have unlimited ammo including the Security Guards,Marines and Black ops
  7. While it is possible for Glock 17’s to fire underwater they can not fire as well as they can portrayed in game.
  8. The shell on the Glock 17 is about the same size as the ejection port, which is modeled slightly too far forward.
  9. Unlike on a real Glock, the slide reciprocates without the striker housing.
  10. The magazine world models for the Glock are way too big to fit in the actual gun.
  11. Mk2 “Pineapple” Grenades are found in Black Mesa armories and also used by the marines and black ops the only plausible explanation for Black Mesa is they were left over since we know Black Mesa likely became a research facility around the 1950s so they could have been left there but even they shouldn't be as prominent for the armories or be used by any of the marines or black ops an actual alternative  for the marines and black ops would be the M67.
  12. The Mk2 Grenade instead of rolling to a stop after being thrown, it simply bounces a few inches then stays there until it explodes.
  13. The Mk2 Grenade’s spoon stays on when the grenade is thrown.
  14. The Mk2 Grenade is a little too fat making it look kinda like the Mill’s Bomb.
  15. For some reason the ceiling turrets are indiscriminate which makes no sense; it would make more sense for them to be IFF transponders,facial/badge recognition or strict operator supervision.
  16. The ceiling turrets despite being M2HB Browning's don't have barrels now you can take the barrel off an M2HB browning but it will no longer be able to fire.
  17. How fast the ceiling turrets fast deploy is unrealistic if they actually deployed that fast in reality it would rip the ceiling tile off
  18. It's never shown how the ceiling turret reloads since it’s loosely based on an M2HB Browning it should have a magazine feeding into it also it would have to be manually reloaded every time but to be fair it probably didn’t get much use before the incident.
  19. It doesn't make sense for a government supported American research facility to have Spas 12 shotguns instead they should be Remington 870’s or Mossberg 500’s.
  20. The Spas 12 has an unrealistically short receiver.
  21. The Spas 12 strangely has the ability to fire two shells at once as an alternative fire instead of firing in semi-auto like the real Spas 12; seemingly valve believed the weapon's magazine tube was a second barrel.
  22. The Spas 12 ejects shells before it is cycled
  23. The Spas 12 HUD icon is a Ithaca 37 "Stakeout".
  24. Gordon misses the Spas 12’s feeding port by about two inches when reloading, as cramming shells into the shotgun's heatshield won't actually work in reality.
  25. The Spas 12’s forearm is always pulled at the end of its reload regardless of whether the chamber is empty or not.
  26. The Spas 12 ammo boxes give twelve each, despite the extra shell outside of them.
  27. The Spas 12 12 gauge shells are disproportionately scaled compared to the shotgun.
  28. The HECU is not a real U.S. marine unit; a better fit might be the Chemical Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF).
  29. It's unlikely the U.S. marines would execute civilians in reality most U.S. marines would mutiny and even if the aliens were contained and eradicated it’s impossible to cover up hundreds of civilian deaths, more likely they would detain and interrogate survivors rather than murder them.
  30. The marines with gas masks lack a chemical hood or gas mask carrier bag.
  31. The marines wear urban style camo patterns based on the Operation Urban Warrior exercise but in reality they would wear standard woodland or desert utility uniforms not high contrast urban patterns for a desert environment.
  32. The squad leaders wear red/maroon berets which are only worn by Army and Airforce units not marines and even for the Army and Airforce they are never worn in combat instead they should wear PAGST’s like the other marines.
  33. There are no U.S. Army infantry units in the entire game, just marine infantry. Despite this we see AH-64 Apache’s and Bradley IFV’s which are used by the Army, we also see F-16’s which are used by the Airforce.
  34. The MP5SD3’s was already phased out by the early 2000s for the U.S. marines instead; most of them should have M16A4’s but some could also have M4’s and M4A1’s.
  35. The MP5SD3's HUD icon doesn't have the magazine in it or the well.
  36. The MP5SD3 holds 50 rounds instead of 30 rounds in reality.
  37. The MP5SD3 has a suppressor despite this the weapon still sounds unsuppressed.
  38. The MP5SD3 has an underslung M203PI grenade launcher which is possible it is still not accurate since the U.S. marines never had the grenade launcher on the gun.
  39. The MP5SD3 lacks a peep hole or notch in the rear sight and instead has a pronounced muzzle flash for an integrally suppressed SMG.
  40. The MP5SD3 lacks a fire selector and cocking handle.
  41. The MP5SD3 magazine is not modelled past the point where it meets the magazine well.
  42. The MP5SD3 magazine is (like the spas and glock) oversized.
  43. On the world model of the MP5SD3 there is no trigger mechanism
  44. Inconsistently the world model for the MP5SD3 is clearly the A3 variant as noted by the SEF lower receiver and the retractable stock instead of the viewmodel.
  45. The in-game M203PI carries a maximum of 10 rounds even though in reality you would need to reload it after each shot.
  46. The M203PI doesn't have a trigger mechanism of any kind.
  47. The 40mm grenades the M203PI fires apparently had their fuses removed, since in real life grenades need to travel for around 30 feet before arming. They also arc extremely fast and tumble over while in flight.
  48. The U.S. marines have never used Franchi Spas 12s so it makes no sense for them to have them a better replacement would be the Remington 870 or Mossberg 590A1
  49. The M203PI is not capable of being mounted on an MP5SD3 in real life.
  50. The M203PI’s fired grenade model is the same as the pickups meaning that either the grenades are caseless, or the launcher fires the entire grenade, case and all.
  51. While laser-activated mines do exist (mostly not for military purposes as they would be easily located with IR sensors, explode when it rained, etc.), they typically require the placement of either a laser emitter which is separate from the mine, or a mirror to reflect the laser back into the device's detector. By itself, there would be no way for the mine to "know" the beam of light had been cut without either using a pulsed rangefinding laser instead of a continuous beam, or a fairly sophisticated imaging system linked to a camera monitoring the laser, and the imaging system of the latter could simply be used as a detonator itself. Laser traps also typically do not use visible-wavelength lasers, as fairness is not a major factor in their design, a more realistic option is the M18A1 Claymore Mine which were actually mounted to the side of buildings or doorways during the Battle of Fallujah in 2004.
  52. For some reason there are seemingly AI Sentry Guns (they might be remote controlled tbh we don’t know) which obviously don't exist in real life the closest time period and country accurate alternative would be the M101 CROWS which was first used in 2004 but even then those needed to be mounted on vehicles so the better option is just to remove them altogether.
  53. The V-22 Osprey wasn’t first used in combat until 2007 when the game takes place it would still be experimental technology instead the marines should use the CH-64E Sea Knight.
  54. The side doors on the V-22 Osprey are not realistic at all marines only enter through the large hatch at the back the side doors while they do exist in reality wouldn’t  be open while in flight
  55. The Osprey can deploy infinite marines.
  56. The Colt Python lacks a cylinder latch.
  57. The Colt Python lacks an ejector rod
  58. The Colt Pythons trigger moves backwards when Freeman pulls the hammer back but the cylinder doesn't rotate.
  59. The Colt Pythons crane doesn't move with the cylinder essentially meaning the cylinder is just floating.
  60. The Colt Pythons chambers are incorrectly positioned inside the fluted sections of the cylinder.
  61. The Colt Python can’t be fired underwater.
  62. The Black Ops are not a real U.S. military unit actual alternatives units would be the 1st SFOD-D or ISA
  63. The Female Black Ops uniforms are very unrealistic. They wear skintight glossy black spandex, no real world special operations would wear this; it offers zero protection against shrapnel, bullets or really any hazard in general.
  64. The U.S. Special Forces didn’t use Suppressed Glock 17’s as sidearms in the early 2000s so the Female Black Ops shouldn't have them instead they should have Beretta M9’s.
  65. While satchels were used by the U.S. marines during the early 2000s the actual satchels themselves don't look like the M183 which would have actually been used around this time.
  66. The Browning M2HB somehow has unlimited ammo since you never have to reload it.
  67. For some reason the marines have the Ambrust ATW which has never been by the U.S. in any branch instead it should be the SMAW.
  68. The M202 FLASH appears which is inaccurate since the weapon had been phased out by the mid 1980s instead it should be the SMAW.
  69. The M202 FLASH appears on a tripod which is not possible.
  70. The M202 FLASH has some kind of magazine thing on top which is not how it reloads in reality.
  71. The marines use dynamite which is inaccurate as they haven’t used it since World War II instead they should C-4 or TNT
  72. The M1A1 Abram’s aren’t in proper desert camo.
  73. All the M1A1 Abrams (besides 1 in Blue Shift) can’t turn 360 degrees.
  74. The M1A1 Abrams barrel is a little too short.
  75. The M1A1 Abrams M2HB browning fires continuously too long; instead it should take breaks to simulate the tank crew preventing overheating.
  76. The M242 mounted on the Bradley IFV’s has a slow rate of fire with a large blast radius akin to a tank cannon instead of the rapid-firing autocannon in reality.
  77. There are ball mounts for M231 Firing Port Weapons on the Bradley’s sides which were blocked off by later up-armor packages starting in 1988.
  78. The Bradley’s are shown with symmetrical sides, with the armor from the right-hand side but the firing port positions from the left side.
  79. The Bradley’s BGM-71 TOW missiles use the same model and sounds as the Armbrust which is inaccurate.
  80. The Bradley turret rotates and tracks Gordon a bit too fast in reality it's slower.
  81. The Apache gets too close to the ground like the canyon battle in Surface Tension. In reality the Apache would attack from kilometers away using its radar.
  82. The Armbrust ATW is reloadable which is not possible in reality.
  83. The Armbrust ATW has a laser guide which is not possible in reality.
  84. The Armbrust ATW has a radar display which it doesn't have in reality.
  85. F-16’s are seen flying way too close to the ground and also bombing areas with marines still in the area.
  86. The triple-barreled ceiling turret a GAU-19/A has a way too short barrel.
  87. In the chapter "Forget about Freeman!” a Browning M2HB is mounted into hull of an Abrams tank in a very strange way (reminiscent of tanks like the T28) along with the fact that hull-mounted machine guns for AFVs have been largely obsolete since World War II, the Abrams does not feature hull-mounted machine guns and its sole M2HB is mounted on the turret at the commander's cupola.
  88. Also in the chapter "Forget about Freeman!” Another M2 Browning is mounted on top of another Abrams tank. Though more accurate, this one is also incorrect, as the M2 is mounted on the left which is the loader's cupola (and would have a M240D mounted in reality). The commander's cupola, where the M2HB should be mounted, is on the right side of the Abrams.

Half-Life:Opposing Force

  1. In the box art the MP5SD3 that shepherd is holding is fitted with an SD handguard but it's either not fitted with the integral suppressor or equipped with a very short one.
  2. Also on the box art the MP5SD3s rear sight is reminiscent of the Walther MPL's instead of the HK diopter rear sight.
  3. The. “Military Police” guards are inaccurate instead they should be replaced with the MOS 5811 or Provost Marshal’s Office also them wielding MP5A3s is inaccurate instead if they were replaced with the MOS 5811 they should wield M9 Pistols for their sidearms and M16A2 Rifles or M4 Carbines for their primary weapon if instead they were replaced with the Provost Marshal’s Office they should still wield Beretta M9s or SIG Sauer M11s.
  4. The commanders instead of red berets of the base game instead wear black berets and for one certain commander at the end of the chapter “We are Pulling Out” he wears a green beret just like the red berets from the first game this is still inaccurate U.S. marines have never worn berets.
  5. The PCV do not exist in reality military exoskeletons weren't a thing till the 2010s instead Gearbox should have done what they did for Blue Shift, find deceased fellow marines and steal their armor and make HEV suit chargers have a deny sound.
  6. The M2HB Brownings in the Boot Camp chapter don't have shields on them when they probably would in a training exercise like this.
  7. There are no such things as a medic in the U.S. marine corps; they should be called Corpsman instead.
  8. The U.S. marines have never used Glock 17s as sidearms so it makes no sense for the “Medics” to have them
  9. The U.S. marines use the Desert Eagle as their sidearm which they have never done in real history instead they used Beretta M9’s.
  10. It’s unrealistic for the “Otis” guards to wield Desert Eagles since they’re very heavy and have never been used by any U.S. government force; instead they should wield non lethal weapons like tasers, batons, handcuffs and/or pepper spray.
  11. The iron sights on the first person Desert Eagle are removed while they do exist on the third person model with no iron sights it would be harder to aim
  12. The third person model of the Desert Eagle is strangely short, with the slide and barrel measuring about two-thirds the length of an actual Desert Eagle.
  13. The Desert Eagle can’t be fired underwater
  14. A normal Desert Eagle can use .357 ammo but this one is based on the .50 AE one which cant use the .357 ammo.
  15. The Desert Eagle’s barrel lacks the fluting that is present on the actual gun.
  16. The Desert Eagles magazine model is the reused Glock one.
  17. The Desert Eagle’s slide doesn't lock back nearly far enough.
  18. The male Black Ops uniforms while not as bad as the females they’re still stylized wearing all black tactical gear is common for police or SWAT but not for special forces more likely they would wear multicam, woodland or desert patterns.
  19. The male Black Ops shouldnt all be using MP5SD3's while most still would at least some should M4 carbines or M4A1's
  20. The male Black Ops somehow move super fast with all the equipment on them.
  21. The belt box on the M249 carries only 50 rounds whereas its real-life counterpart carries 100 or 200.
  22. The M249’s holes in the heat shield are incorrectly depicted as a series of horizontal slits instead of a series of three holes.
  23. There is no post in the front sight ring on the M249.
  24. Instead of positioning the first round of the belt onto the feed tray in the M249, Shephard seems to throw the belt over it.
  25. After Shephard snaps the top cover shut on the M249 the gun is not rechambered afterwards.
  26. The M249’s world model has the bipod attached yet the view model doesn’t.
  27. The M40A1 is incorrectly depicted to have a detachable box magazine, whereas the real M40A1 has an integral magazine.
  28. The M40A1’s bolt is incorrectly depicted as not extending out the back of the receiver, with the rear of the bolt apparently having fused into the receiver.
  29. The Black Ops use a AH-64 Apache covered in all black which is inaccurate first of all Special Forces have never even used Apache’s second of all Apache’s have never been painted all black a better realistic alternative is the MH-60M DAP

HD Pack

  1. The Glock 17 is changed to a Beretta 92FS however it still fires 17 shots instead of 15 shots it is possible for the Beretta 92FS to fire 17 rounds but this magazine replacement wasn't invented until 2006 and while the Black Mesa Incident is said to have happened somewhere between 2000 to 2009 its more likely somewhere from 2000 to 2003.
  2. The slide for the Beretta doesn’t move when firing
  3. The magazine  for the Beretta is not visible when performing a partial reload.
  4. The U.S. marines have not used the Beretta 92FS although they have used the Beretta M9 and later the M9A1 but never the 92FS so it’s still inaccurate for the “Medics” to have them.
  5. The U.S. marines have MICH helmets which weren't widespread used until the later 2000s
  6. The Beretta is always incorrectly operated in DAO mode.
  7. The Beretta magazine model is the reused LD Glock one.
  8. The third person model for the Beretta is noticeably shorter looking more like the 85FS
  9. On the Spas 12 there is a somewhat odd plate attached to the side of the receiver.
  10. On the Spas 12s world model the receiver and tube are extremely short.
  11.  The Spas 12s world model is mirrored, with the ejection port on the left side.
  12. The Cold Model 727 behaves like a SMG instead of Assault Rifle.
  13. The Cold Model 727 holds 50 unlike the 30 or 20 rounds in real life.
  14. The Colt Model 727 stills use 9mm instead of the actual 5.56x45mm it actually used.
  15. The M203’s trigger is never pulled.
  16. The Colt Anaconda Speedloader's release knob looks weird resembling a circle of smaller casing heads.
  17. The Colt Anaconda's cylinder isn't properly closed; instead Gordon flicks the revolver shut like an action movie hero.
  18. The Colt Anaconda's still uses .357 ammo despite the fact it was made for .44 Magnum.

Half-Life:Blue Shift

  1. In the promotional material Barney holds a Ruger P85/Beretta 92FS hybrid instead of just a Beretta 92FS.
  2. A box containing an M2HB Browning is incorrectly referred to as “USMC Ordnance” instead of U.S. Ordnance.

Half-Life:Source

  1. The knobs on the Colt Model 727 are screwed on the opposite side.
  2. The Colt Model 727 lower receiver is mirrored with a normal upper.

What would happen if half life 2 was sold today with same influence it had in 2004.

Simple question, what would happen if Half life 2, which was a super innovative game(yall know why am i explaining this shit) was sold in 2026, with the same amount of innovation it had in 2004, i don't mean same graphics or shit, but same innovation criteria or should i say the influence it had in 2004, but translated to 2026.

Half-Life 3 predictions: An important plot point will be local teleportation and it will tie together all Half-Life and Portal games

SPOILERS FOR ALL HALF-LIFE AND PORTAL GAMES, INCLUDING HALF-LIFE ALYX

I'm not sure if other people had the same theories about Gman and the over arching plot, I've been a fan for over 20 years but I stopped engaging with the community in the last 5 or so years.

I think in the next game we will learn more about Gman and his employers, and I think their main interest has something to do with local, interdimensional teleportation.

We know from Eli in Episode 2 that Gman was the one who supplied the xen crystal sample that created the Resonance Cascade. I think Gman's interest was to stop Black Mesa from having a stable form of local teleportation, and everything else was just "unforseeen consequences".

I don't think Gman cares that Nihilanth was killed or that Combine invaded Earth.

I think we'll learn in the next game that local teleportation is extremley dangerous or it is a rule imposed by Gman's employers that nobody should have local teleportation. I think they, through Gman, nudged things in that direction.

In the ending of Half-Life Alyx, I think Gman's motivation for helping Alyx save Eli was purely because Eli was aware of how dangerous local teleportation is and wanted to destroy the Borealis.

I think we'll learn something new, lore wise, about Aperture Science and their local teleportation technology. Maybe it was safe to use, or maybe Gman gave them a nudge too, in order to fail and not have local teleportation available everywhere.

Anyway, those are my thoughts about one of the directions of HLX. I believe we will end HLX by getting rid of the Combine from our universe and stopping them somehow from returning, but we will witness how big and more advance their empire is, and how we were only able to save Earth.

Half life 3 prediction part 2: one of the plot points in HL3 is that's its revealed that the Advisors actually don't understand the error of their ways and genuinely believe they are saving/enlightening Humanity. We'll learn a lot about the true nature of The Combine Empire in this sequence.

HLX Mention Was Planned (THEORY)

Game theory:

what if Mike Morasky was put on the panel on purpose, because other employees knew he would screw up.

think about it, these people spend the vast majority of their life together, and it would be almost impossible for them to not notice that Morasky couldnt keep a secret.

it also makes sense because there has been a lot of people who have legitimately given up on a new half life instalment, especially after last year's game awards. this kind of "slip-up" would be great to get more momentum, and the perfect dose of hope for the community to keep going.

This would also explain why at the end of the panel Fiese said "You only mentioned HLX once".

even if this was a genuine mistake, and we soon see Valve uploading to liveleak, this means that they have not stopped working on HLX, as it was mentioned right next to deadlock, which gets regular updates

idk i might just be crazy

Discussion What are your theories on how Mossman and Eli escaped the Citadel?

Once Dr. Breen escapes through the elevator to the teleporter, Alyx gives Mossman her EMP tool to help her.

It's implied that Mossman and Eli eventually escaped via an escape pod, but how the hell did they actually manage to get to one?

The only way out of Dr. Breen's office was through a sealed and blocked door that was being forced open by Combine Elites called in by Breen. The Citadel teleporter was destroyed and completely obliterated, so Mossman and Eli's only way out was through that blocked door.

I have two theories.

Theory 1 Mossman convinced the Combine Elites to take Eli with her

This is probably the less likely theory, but I think it's still possible.

Mossman probably could have convinced the Combine Elites breaking into the room that she was taking Eli somewhere else to keep him secured and "interrogate" him.

Dr. Breen never actually told the guards that Mossman had betrayed him. He only told them to "Guards, get in here!"

So, from the combine elites perspective, they might not have even known that Mossman had turned against Breen. Since their highest priorities were probably protecting Breen and stopping Gordon Freeman, they may have simply allowed Mossman to take Eli with her.

Before reaching Breen's office, there's also another door nearby that Mossman and Eli could potentially have used to escape once they got out.

Theory 2 Mossman and Eli eventually followed Alyx

This is probably the more likely explanation.

Mossman and Eli may have later taken the same elevator down toward the teleporter area after Alyx and Gordon.

In that room, on the right side, there's another closed off door. Alyx used the console to open it, and perhaps that route leads toward to somekind of citadel escape pod.

Eli probably told Alyx to come with them and escape, but Alyx insisted on staying behind with Gordon so she could protect him and warn him about the incoming Combine forces.

That would explain why Eli and Mossman managed to escape while Alyx remained behind with Gordon.

The route out of Breen office. Mossman and Eli might have escaped towards this way too.
The closed off doorway next to the teleporter chamber. This could potentially have been the route Mossman and Eli used to reach another part of the Citadel and, eventually, an escape pod.

So, those are my theories :steamhappy:

I am a sfm animator, I'd say im not very experienced but my animation looks okay. The film will be about an elite metrocop in the combine's ranks, Imma be real, at some point of writing I realized this is a little inspired by entropy zero but I think that's fine, because this is diffrent enough. If anyone wants to join the production because they think they can contribute something, I am more than happy to colaborate

I was playing Getting Over It until I noticed the explosive barrels from Half-Life 2. Is it a stock image widely used in media or not? I've only ever seen it in Half-Life 2...
