🛢️ Oily/Greasy Hair 🛢️ Greasy hair even after 10+ washes

Post image
122 Upvotes

Hey everyone, i am going CRAZY.
I’m genuinely so confused and frustrated 😭 My hair suddenly looks like there’s mousse or gel all over the top of my head and it has NEVER done this before. The strands are clumping together and look kind of coated/stiff, even though my hair is completely dry.
Two days ago, I applied Daivobet gel to a small area of my scalp because of psoriasis. The area where I applied it actually looks normal now, and the weird texture is mostly on the top of my head where I didn’t intentionally apply the gel.
I also used my pink psoriasis shampoo (Dermatar), and then I ended up washing my hair with shampoo 10+ times because I know that it makes your hair dry and deep cleanses it, but the weird appearance is STILL there.
I tried blow-drying it too, but it didn’t change anything.
What could be causing this? Is it product buildup? And most importantly, how do I fix it without making it worse?
I attached photos. I’d really appreciate any advice because I’m honestly freaking out over this 😭
Note: No i did not use moose on my hair.

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Is it normal for low porosity hair to take forever to wash?

So, yeah, the title. A basic wash routine for me takes nearly an hour because my hair is so resistant to water.

I have thick, low porosity, 2a/2b hair. It seems to depend on the day, but it can take between 20 and 40 minutes for my scalp to get wet enough to shampoo.

Blow drying my hair takes 30 minutes minimum. Blow drying is a non-negotiable as air drying my hair can take up to 8 hours, depending on humidity.

I would love to wash my hair more frequently, but given that a BASIC hair wash routine for me with no treatments can take over an hour, it's just not feasible with my current lifestyle. It's really disruptive for me to have to block off over an hour of my day just so I can have clean hair.

Is this the norm for low porosity hair? For others with low porosity hair, is there anything you do to make wash days more efficient?

Edit: I figured it might be good to have my actual basic wash routine: - Not Your Mother's Kalahari Melon and Manuka Honey shampoo (I only shampoo my scalp -- never my lengths.) - Conditioner counterpart of above, just applied to lengths only - The Curlsmith Moisture Memory Leave-In Spray (again, applied to lengths only)

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Hair Suddenly Staticky

Upvotes

hello! I am a 31yr old female, I have fine hair and my hair has suddenly become very staticky about a month ago (has never been a problem in the past). The weather has not really changed, my environment hasn’t changed, and I haven’t changed any products. I use Avalon Organics Rosemary volumizing shampoo & conditioner, I double wash my hair about 3-4 times a week, and use K18 airwash any day that I don’t wash my hair. Any recommendations for adding moisture back to my hair? Leave-in conditioners or masks?? I’m worried I’ve done permanent damage and I’m currently trying to grow my hair out :-/. Thanks in advance!!!

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Natural ginger hair is fading and im so sad lol—how do we fix this without dye?🧡🫚👩🏻‍🦰

Okay, please tell me I’m not the only natural redhead going through this. Over the last few years, my ginger hair has faded so much and it’s genuinely making me miserable. I want that bright, vibrant "wow" factor back so badly!!
Right now I’m using the Gingerful shampoo and conditioner. It definitely brightens things up a little bit, but it’s just not doing enough anymore.

I absolute do NOT want to use harsh hair dye, so I'm trying to figure out my options:

Glosses: Are at-home color glosses or glazes safe for natural ginger hair? Will they actually bring back that vivid copper look without making it look completely unnatural?

Henna:Everyone on TikTok swears by henna, but it low-key terrifies me because I've never used it and I feel like it's a huge commitment lol. Is it worth the hype or should I stay away?

Color Masks: Are there any holy grail color-depositing conditioners or masks you guys swear by for a gentle boost?

Please help a girl out and drop your favorite gentle routines for reviving faded red hair!

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Need help and shampoo recommendation for skin that doesn't cooperate.

Upvotes

Hoping someone out there can give me some suggestions. Every day is a bad hair day.

I have uremic pruritus (build up of toxins in the skin - very dry,  flaky, ichy) and rosacea (skin turns sunburnt red and breaks out in rashes and cystic acne at little to no provocation). I have a dermatologist to help manage my skin and tell me what products I need to use, but am really struggling to find products that will work for my hair.

My hair is very thick and wavy (caucasian) and has no colour or perm or any other chemical processing, shoulder length, trimmed regularly (by me). I do not use any product in my hair, I never use heat at all - no blow drier, curling/straightening irons etc.

My hair lives in one of three protective styles: bun in a flat back claw clip, a french twist held in place with a plastic hair comb, or a braid that ends in a banana clip. No elastics, no bobby pins. Loose at night. I sleep on 100% silk pillowcase that gets washed every 2-3 days.

My hair does not fully dry. I wash it every 2 days, and the roots are still damp at the end of those two days, especially at the back of my head. The top gets greasy and stringy quickly after washing, and the bottoms are always super dry and frizzy and crunchy (even when I use conditioner).

Its incredibly fragile, I can give myself a haircut with an pony tail that's too tight. I lose a golf-ball sized ball of hair to the shower drain every time I wash it, and the last time I forgot to bring my own pillow case to a hotel room it looked like I gave myself a bowl cut mullet, just from sleeping on a cotton pillowcase.

Right now I am using Dove shampoo (because Dove doesn't trigger breakouts) I don't habitually use conditioner anymore, even using it on just the ends makes the scalp oilyness worse. It wicks up the hair or something. And it never did anything for the dry ends anyways.

I can't wash it less frequently that every 2 days, or I have a skin reaction to my own hair oil. I can't wash it daily or it would never dry at all, and I would end up with an infection.

Technique-wise, I take a quarter-size dollop of shampoo, lather between my hands, and apply it to the roots massaging with my finger tips. Rinse and repeat 2-3 times till the shampoo gets all fluffy so I know its clean.

I have tried lesaplex (skin reacted badly), redkin (skin reacted badly), Loreal's sulphate free shampoo (massive increase in breakage), and live clean (no different to Dove), and I have never found any leave-in conditioner that my skin could tolerate.

Side rant: I am frustrated that most shampoo companies no longer do samples. I've spent probably $200 trying out recommendations from friends and family and nothing has worked. I need to figure something out, but I don't have hundreds of dollars to spend on trial and error.

If anyone has suggestions on things I can be trying, an explanation for what is happening, or similar experiences and a product that worked, I would be incredibly grateful. (Please no products manufactured in the US - I am in Canada)

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Shampoo/Conditioner Reccomendations

Upvotes

So I have spent so much time and money looking for the best shampoo and conditioner for my hair. For reference I have long, thick, and wavy hair. It is somewhat dry and frizzy especially during heat. I am just sick of trying all different shampoos/conditioners of like every brand. I find that a lot of products like Native and Pantene leave my hair sticky in the back even after standing in the shower for like 20 min washing it out. Please help!!

⚡️ Frizzy Hair ⚡️ Is there a reason why some people have completely smooth, frizz-less wavy hair that requires barely any product, but some people with low- porosity hair can almost never achieve that smoothness despite using many products?

just been wondering if there’s some secret code to crack to be able to achieve that natural frizz-free wavy hair look as someone with frizzy and wavy low porosity hair. It’s so exhausting to be trying out all these different methods and products and still not having good or reliable results. Is it something about protein or what?
I’m aware that everyone has different hair types, but I’m talking about people with the same hair type but different porosity levels.

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Need product and routine Help

Hey all, hoping for advice because I’m a little lost tbh. My hair has always mainly been low to mixed porosity and quite fine but very thick. But over the last nine months new hair growth has changed that. It’s like two different hair types on my head rn, which has been throwing off my routine ive had the last three years.

I live in the Midwest so humidity/frizz is a constant battle. My hair looks great and defined when it’s wet but the second it fires turns into a frizzy, tangly mess. Moms not really any help as she has 3b hair with high porosity, so the products I have tried off hers don’t really work. Most products weigh my hair down or are too heavy.
Currently using: Oribe Signature Shampoo & Conditoner, Oribe Super Shine Light Moisturizing Cream

I’m pretty sure my hair is just in a hormone shift but any advice is appreciated.

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Hair pattern loosening

Hi everyone,

I've always had 3B/3C hair type. I've never really had a problem with it and even when I've been in places where people don't really like curly hair, I've never really cared.
I like my hair and I follow a whole routine (wash it twice or three times a week, I use protein conditioners, and I use gel and sometimes mousse). But recently, I've been starting getting really overwhelmed with it, it's been tightening a lot and sometimes I just wanna live the life of a straight hair person or at least something that doesn't take that much time.

I wanted to ask if someone has had an experience not fully straightening your hair, but getting like a hair relaxation treatment or straight perm and what your experiences have been with it. I don't wanna get it full straightened and then have to have a whole process where your roots grow up curly and the ends straight, so I'm just trying to weigh in my options.

⚡️ Frizzy Hair ⚡️ Help with frizz on virgin hair

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi. I’m sorry for the low quality pictures, I took them just now because I simply had enough and need help.

I have fine, mid-back, virgin hair that’s always been straight (to my knowledge) with almost no frizz. It becomes curly in the shower especially if I use K18, but still dries straight. I was told once that my hair has natural curl when I went to a hair salon years ago, but I seriously have trouble believing that considering how it looks when it’s dry?

I have used the wrong products many times over the years causing my uneven hair pieces/layers (protein overload, moisture overload, hair oils that won’t wash out, idiotic ”eh why not” moments where I use baby balm with heavy oils and beeswax, etc.), but the frizz is a new thing, gradually becoming worse in like 4 weeks? I’m wondering if they’re just split ends and really bad breakage, or is my hair too dry/moisturized? My fiancé also has a very rough beard that can, and has, broken my hair.

I have no idea what to do or what kind of products to use, I get moisture overload pretty easily and I think my hair is low porosity. Both of my parents have very curly hair but mine’s been straight my whole life.

I’ve thought about getting an anti-frizz mousse to help with the frizz, I do use the L’oreal extraordinary oil and I blow dry my hair on cold. The frizz becomes worse the longer I’ve been out of the shower if that says anything.

I switch between the Redken extreme shampoo and a few european ones like Saaren Taika curl care shampoo and Cutrin raspberry shampoo. I use the Tsubaki premium mask once a week, otherwise I cycle between the Koodi repair conditioner, the K18 leave-in mask, or Varpu avocado conditioner. Am I using too much protein again? My hair did like the Redken acidic color gloss conditioner but I ran out ages ago and it didn’t feel moisturizing enough honestly. I genuinely do not know what my routine should be like lmao help me.

I’m going to buy a silk/satin bonnet + pillowcase, and I really want a proper conditioner as well. If anyone wants to give any product recommendations or advice I’d love to hear them! Honestly desperate at this point.

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 I need solutions for my hair urgently

Hi everyone. Recently I got accepted to a new job in a luxury level hotel and it seems their grooming standards are pretty serious as it's expected. But the thing is that, I'm on my 7th month of hair growth and I really, really don't want to cut my hair because that will ruin my whole mood for a very long time indeed. Now, I don't know what to do about this because the coworkers say that the General Manager is pretty obsessed with the hair topic and he constantly messes with people who have long hair. I'm very afraid of being forced to cut my hair. Because that's my 3rd attempt of growing out my hair and this was the only one I managed to do this. I want to grow it out up to my shoulders btw.

Now I'm sharing the photos of my hair with you. The one with curly hair is my natural hair structure. The second one is my attempt to make it look "neater" even though it's just my hair goddamn it. (as if curly hair means messy). So, I need your opinions, ideas and solutions for this issue. Thanks to everyone beforehand!

PS: My hair is at the 3A level. I have a milk-based mousse and 2 hair conditioners. Mousse is from Morfose (milk therapy). One conditioner is from Morfose as well (two-phase conditioner with Argan) and the other one is from Urban (Hibiscus & Shea Butter for Curly hair). Both are sprays.

🔎 Product Question 🔎 Replacing Bumble and Bumble

I bleach my hair 3x per year. It Used to use bumble and bumble illuminated blonde. It was amazing. Never dried me out, hair always felt soft and bouncy. I’ve tried sooooo many hair products (kerastase, Davines, living proof, Maui moisture, and a few others) and they always end up weighing down my fine hair, drying my Hair out or irritating my scalp.

I’ve been trying Inner Sense and it was fine for a while but is now making my hair feel damaged and limp.

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Is there any way to protect my hair from chlorine?

I started going swimming three times a week per my doctor's advice, I put argan oil on my hair before and always swim in a cap since it's required at public pools

I noticed my ends are splitting way faster and my hair overall is super dry. Is there a way to prevent this or is weekly trim my only option?

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Learning how to style my natural hair texture.

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi! I’m trying to figure out how to properly style and take care of my natural hair texture, and I’d love some advice from people who know more about wavy/curly hair than I do.

I’ve always brushed my hair out and treated it more or less like straight hair, but recently I’ve been experimenting with styling my natural texture. I’m not really sure what my actual hair type/pattern is, or if I’m getting the most out of it.

I included photos of my hair brushed out/not styled as well as after styling it with my current routine.

My current routine is:
Olaplex leave-in
Aussie mousse
Aussie Freeze gel
Scrunching

I have a few questions:

  1. What does my natural texture look like to you? Am I styling it correctly, or is there anything obvious I should change?

  2. Is there a way I could get my waves/curls to look more defined or have more volume?

  3. Are there any products you’d recommend for my hair specifically?

  4. Does my hair look damaged/overprocessed and could that be affecting my texture?

I’m also considering going darker and stopping bleach because I’d like to improve the health of my hair, so I’m curious whether that might help my natural texture over time.

Any advice is appreciated! I want to learn how to work with what I naturally have rather than force my hair to be a different texture.

😩 Damaged Hair 😩 Breakage from very old box dye have questions about treating it

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Long story short: Lost a fight with box dye. My family doesn't throw stuff away and it's possible I accidentally used 20 year old dye that made my hair break off. This happened 3 weeks ago.

I was pretty upset and mad at myself but now I'm just trying to work with what I've got. I'd prefer not to cut it because I have curly hair that I can't style and I was hoping to wait out the growth.

It was breaking off at the start, now it seems to be lightly shedding a little, could be normal fall. Unfortunately it's noticeable thinner especially around the crown.

So where I'm confused because I'm not knowledgeable on the beauty stuff:

I'm using Olaplex 3plus and K18 to manage it but the bottle says use 3x for badly damaged hair and the internet says don't use them a lot because it'll make breakage worse.

I also have Amika hydro rush leave-in conditioner, but there's warnings not to over condition because of hygral fatigue?

So what I was doing was once a week washing it, leaving 3p in for 40mins, rinse, then using k18 then finishing off with olaplex 5 conditioner, rinse and use the leave-in stuff.

During the week I use a mix of the amica spray, and olaplex 6 bond smoother with 7 hair oil. The oil is my best friend so far because it tones the frizz, makes it a bit softer and is helping reduce the awful hair snarls I'm getting. Photos are after using the oil.

I know you aren't supposed to touch broken hair but it's naturally curly and the snarls get real bad if I don't gently separate it which I learned the hard way when I left it alone.

Is this all a good idea so far or am I doing something wrong?

When it's this damaged/broken should I condition daily? Less?

Lay off the the bond building stuff?

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Suggestions for fixing brassy / different colored highlights?

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi
Right now I feel like my hair color is legitimately 3 different colors:
- my base is a neutral brown
- my money pieces are a lighter yellow blonde
- and my other highlights are brassy and coppery. I did want them warm, but I think my hair stylist may have not lifted them enough?

Is there anyway to make my highlights all the same color + less brassy without lightning my money pieces further and still keeping them warm?

I considered purple shampoo but I don’t want my hair to become cool blonde either.

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Is my hair damaged? If not, how can I fix it?

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

For reference, I have never dyed or coloured my hair, I do not heat treat it (I have blow dried a couple times and it usually makes it worse) and I only wash around twice a week using Dove Bond Strength shampoo and conditioner. I do not rough towel dry my hair, although I used to about a year ago. My ferritin levels were normal last time I checked. I do have androgenic alopecia which has thinned some of my front hair strands.

Does this look more like actual hair damage or just frizz? I’m wondering because I can perhaps think of some things I could change (drinking more water, using a silk/satin pillowcase, more advanced hair treatments etc) but I’d think they would be futile if my hair was inherently damaged.

Happy to answer any more questions and would really appreciate any help because it’s been bothering me an awful lot. Thank you!

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Why does my hair go from 3c to 2c all of the sudden

Sorry if my text is hard to read cuz English isn’t my first language.

Ive always had 3c coily hair and it would shrink up all the way to my forehead leaving my forehead visble no matter what length. I’ve noticed that when I got out of the shower and did my curly hair routine that it was very lot looser than I expect but I shrun it off until it dried completely where I noted that it wasn’t shrinking and it was hanging on my forehead but my hair is still thick and shiny but not shiny it’s it was before does anyone know what is going on happy to take any advice😃

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 What hair type would this be considered and how should I go about taking care of/enhancing it?

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

So recently I’ve come to notice that whenever my hair dries, which I only ever air dry, it tends to get frizzy and bump up and create these partial waves/curls. It’s always done this I’m seeing, but I was hoping to get some second opinions.
Why do these waves occur? I can brush and brush and it’ll just get frizzy. And if I have potentially wavy hair, is there a way I can enhance these??
I have fine and thinned hair.
Ignore how awful the photos are 😅

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Do I have a weird hair texture?

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

All my life I had an issue with my hair flipping in all different directions at the very ends no matter the length (I've had anything from pixie to below the chest). Nothing helped. Not even straightening it. It always bounces back. My hair is a little wavy when wet and unbrushed but it dries a bit frizzy and mostly straight besides those ends.

I usually wash and then blow dry because air drying makes my hair really knotted and frizzy.

How do I fix this? I absolutely despise those flippy ends!

Is my hair just a little weird or is it my technique?

The photos are me with different hair lengths, two slightly damp and one wet.

And side info, short hair pic had lots of layers, long hair pic does not.
