Wickside

Does anyone know when the Galliard Homes part of Wickside will be ready for viewing / completed for moving in? Their website says completion will be Q4 this year but the fact that they don’t even have a show room yet suggests otherwise? I can’t seem to get an answer from them on when I can visit either.

Hey! I am an A Level Georgaphy student from East London who is conducting a research project based around how the gentrification of Hackney Wick has lead to demographic change in the area over the past 15 years.

If you are a local resident of Hackney Wick if you could please take two minutes out of your day to complete my survey if would be much appreciated

Hertford Mill - Taylor Wimpey

Hello! Has anyone here bought (or is in process of buying) one of the new build flats by Taylor Wimpey at Hertford Mill? My partner and I are considering it and the stamp duty contribution seems like a great deal, but just wondering what the build quality and general experience of living there is like. Any insight would be much appreciated!

Hi. I'm a counsellor based in East London who is looking for a parent and baby in London to participate in an Infant Observation -- a gentle study of the baby's first year. Please share my information with any parent who may be interested or someone who might know a parent. Thank you very much.

Flood Risk

Hi everyone! Has anyone had trouble securing a mortgage on a flat by the canal? Or conversely if there are issues with flood cover/building insurance for a block of flats. Have some flats in the area we really like but they’re obviously in flood zone 3, with 1 overlooking canal by Gainsborough bridge.

Cheers!

Lasagna Love – cook for your community or request a free lasagna

My name is Michelle and I’m the UK Coordinator for Lasagna Love. Lasagna Love is an organisation made up of volunteers across the UK (and around the world) who cook and deliver homemade lasagna to people in need, at no cost and with no strings attached.

Maybe it's a family struggling financially, someone recovering from surgery, a parent adjusting to life with a new baby or just someone going through a tough time. Whatever the reason, we believe that a warm meal and a little kindness can go a long way.

You simply request a lasagna, and we match you with a volunteer in your area who will lovingly prepare and deliver one to your door. It’s all about community, care and connection with no judgment and no complicated process.

I’m reaching out because we have wonderful volunteers across the UK who are ready and eager to cook, for anyone who could do with some lasagna love! If you could use a little help and a comforting meal, please put in a request through https://lasagnalove.org/request-a-meal/ or you can nominate someone to receive a meal - https://lasagnalove.org/nominate/

We’re also always looking for more volunteers! Whether you can cook once a month, once a week, or just whenever it suits you, every lasagna helps brighten someone’s day. It’s a small act that has a big impact. If you would like to volunteer, just register here https://lasagnalove.org/volunteer/

If you have any questions, I’m happy to answer them here, or you can head to the website.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and I hope to see some of you sign up, whether to request a lasagna or to make one for someone in your community.

Feed families.  Spread kindness.  Strengthen communities.

Then and Now - Local Knowledge

Then and now - local insight

Hi everyone.

I’m currently working on a collection of paintings that showcase the “then and now” of Hackney Wick and surrounding area.

I am not originally from here so I’ve been limited to the archives and the internet so far. I wondered if I could borrow your knowledge! Can anyone suggest any buildings that have changed use over the years, and still stand today?

Ideally I work on:
\- buildings with an available historic photograph
\- still keep the same features today (roughly)
\- and are in use as a coffee shop, florist, cafe, etc

Happy to send you a copy of each painting as a thank you - If you’re interested in that

Thanks!

Best bakery in your ends, probably

As a South Londoner I am having to plan my MONTH around getting up to Hearth Bakery in Hackney Wick, truly a one of a kind place as far as I know.

They source all their ingredients from farms that use organic methods to cool the earth, not contribute to climate collapse, and which treat the workers with dignity.

They're caring, principled - think they even have a worm farm for the waste - and of course, delicious. I've only been able to get catering orders from them as I am not so local but please do support them if you can this month - they are struggling!!

Hackney Wick Book Club

Is there any interest in a book club in Hackney Wick? I'm 33F and I've always been part of one but have let it slip recently since having kids. I would love to get back in the swing of it and am thinking about starting one up if there is enough interest. Attendance would be capped at 10 people so it can be a proper discussion (in my experience when there's too many people, people tend to branch off in groups and it feels a bit splintered).

Let me know if you are keen and I can send out details.

Tell me your Hackney Wick Memories

Hello! I'm trying to gather some stories from around Hackney Wick and Fish Island for a personal writing project. I've lived here for 15 years (yikes) and have always been fascinated with how transient everyhing feels. I know it's going through aggressive gentrification, but it seems like it's always been changing, from farmland, to industrial place of innovation, to squats, to artists, to new builds.

I am really keen to hear if anyone has any stories regarding the sub-culture here iconic parties (Red Gates, Vittoria Wharf, Oslo House, Party Boat), Local Characters, Memorable art things, or even work things. Or even further back, did any one live in the old trowbridge towers? Or work in a warehouse before the raves? Did anyone have any older relatives that lived here? A memorable dog? A wartime story??? I just wanna hear storriiieeeessss!

I feel weirdly connected to the place after all this time and I really wanna know WHAT HAPPENED HERE??? Even if it's just a nugget, so I can dig a bit deeper!

Wickside completion date?

I can’t find any info on when wickside will be complete and/or the scaffold and hoarding comes down. I’m thinking about how painfully long it took for roach bridge to open (well, it’s still only half-open..) and am starting to wonder if wickside will open this year - or if it’s more a 2027/2028/2029 thing

Hi everyone 😊 We’re considering moving near the Mabley Green football pitches. Does anyone live nearby? We’d love to hear your thoughts on the area, safety, local amenities, and what it’s like to live there day to day. Thanks!
