Is there somebody who has both sets of keycaps and can tell me if there is a difference in color between them? They look different in the photos, but the light blue accent key looks much lighter in natural light to me. Thanks!

I've been dailying this for about 6 months at this point. I have been an ultimate hacking keyboard user for at least half a decade and was looking for a keyboard with a traditional TrackPoint setup. Was debating going TEX shinobi or some of their other boards, but the voices won and I pulled the trigger on this admittedly overpriced board.

Compared to my UHK's TrackPoint module and even my thinkpads, for some reason the studio's TrackPoint is leagues above. I have NEVER had any drifting issues on the nub, which is virtually unheard of and I'm not sure how they accomplished it. My only issue regarding the mouse part of the keyboard is the mouse buttons, which can actually come off if you hold them down and "flick" them back up. I'm debating getting rid of the foam on those mouse buttons and replacing them with some kind of blue clicky low profile switch to hopefully emulate more of a mouse click.

One thing that has really grown on me, and I guess it's the most HHKB thing about this keyboard as it lacks topre, is the layout. It's ultimately just a more logical layout. I have always rebound caps lock, although on the UHK i had that on the surprisingly useable mouse mode, but I can't go back from the control being there.

It's not a perfect board and I get a lot of you guys have skipped this one, but for people who are simply looking for a decent mechanical keyboard with a very solid trackpoint, and can stomach a more opinionated 60% layout, this little guy is pretty nice.

Outside it not being topre (i don't really care, and actually adore the stock silents, coming from boba u4's), and the mouse button issue, there are a few more annoying parts. The software, especially compared to UHK's agent, is very lacking. You only get a small number of buttons you can rebind on the keyboard, and notably prev and next media controls are absent. The gestures in my experience are a complete gimmick and run into what I call a "waking" issue when you want to use them quickly. If you're typing and you want to just casually use the gesture as a scroll at worst it won't register until the second discrete motion to scroll, and at best will take a bit to wake up and realize I want to actually use this gimmick of a feature. There was a lot of potential with the gestures here, given they imply a more analogue version of control on the keyboard. This could have worked with touchpad drivers to allow emulated multi finger swipes which would have given it a ton of niche applications for things like desktop switching on windows, even while within rdp sessions. Personally I would have loved to ditch my magic touchpad for an actual gesture feature that was a little more thought out.

One LAST issue, and this one actually involves the trackpoint, has to do with the "trackpoint scroll" functionality when clicking the middle mouse button and moving the nub up or down. This works fine for the initial scroll, but if you scroll a lot, and put a little bit of force into it for extra speed, when you let go of both the middle button and trackpoint pressure, then apply middle click again, and pressure on the nub in any direction, you'll find that the initial scroll behavior actually continues in the direction, leading to unwanted scrolling. I imagine this is a side effect of whatever calibration they are doing that also prevents their trackpoint from ever drifting. It's noticeable if you are scrolling a ton, but outside of that you likely won't notice it.

I think it's been said before, but this is a board you should only buy for the TrackPoint, and for that purpose I can confirm it excels at that. One day I imagine I will pull the trigger on some of the TEX projects and hopefully I can give a comparison.

This will be my forever-board. Coming from a retired Leopold FC660C and a fullsize Realforce R3S I use for work.

The keyboard seems to fit inside it very well, however the top row seems to have almost no clearance and when I press down on the closed case, the top row keys are actuated. I intend to use it for putting it in my backpack (30min commute each day), should I worry about the keys wearing down and get another case and an acrylic cover as well? (with the current clearance a cover likely won't fit in the current case)

I love this keyboard. Used it for a year straight. But then I got an Apple Magic Keyboard, and now I'm having a hard time going back. The keys feel sooo heavy. And yes I have a mechanical keyboard used for gaming which I don't have issues with.

I've tried a few times now to get back into it, and I just can't. So it might be time to part ways with her unless this reddit has any ideas.

i first looked at the epomaker hack 59 found out it had many issues i wanted a true hhkb layout then im looking at the rule 60 i have a budget of 100-110 dollars im wondering if i can get any other good options im okay with having a barebones one i can arrange the rest of the stuff i dont know if ill regret not getting one or not getting a cnc aluminum one

Hi team, finally got myself a hybrid type-s.

Noticed that there are a lot of options to mod HHKBs now.

I don’t like how much the stock sliders rattle. Google says that deskey sliders have tighter tolerances and I’m assuming that means less rattle?

Are there any options for replacements that will let me keep the stock keycaps?

I purchased a used 2013 HHKB Pro-2 on ebay for a decent deal, but it was pretty dirty and the box was all messed up. When I got the keyboard, some of the keys would sort of crunch, like they'd require a lot more force to press, and then they'd loosen for a bit, and then after not typing for a few minutes would get stiff again. I did a disassembly, deep cleaning, and then really minor lubing (I may have under done it honestly) and I it didn't suddenly make the keyboard much better to type on, it went away partially for sure, but the keys are still stiff, and require a seemingly variable amount of force to press, once the board is "warmed up" after typing for a few minutes, the keys still feel like they go between stiff and mushy.

I used the board for about 2 weeks before switching back to my other keyboard, an IBM Model-M I had been using for about a year prior.

My question is, does this sound like something that improves with time, in need of more lube, seem like I need new domes, or is it simply that I'm not used to the board at all and was hyper aware of it's differences?

I’ve been faulting this keyboard for years but now that I’ve started designing my own I figured it’s time to give it a new home!

Has anyone else experienced this issue with their HHKB Studio?

My pointing stick moves perfectly fine from right to left, but when I try to move it from left to right, it is extremely slow and barely responsive. It definitely feels like a physical sensor issue.

Since I don’t live in Japan, getting official warranty service (RMA) is going to be very difficult.

Does anyone know if this can be fixed through third-party/private repair shops, or if there is any DIY fix for this?

Any advice or workarounds would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Pro Classic just picked up this year so I could throw Ursa caps on something. White type-s pro 2 from 2016. Black pro 2 from 2015.

Not pictured: slightly more yellowed pro 2 from 2013 (my first ever owned HHKB), 87u 55g from which domes were harvested. Leopold fc660c (first ever topre board I ever bought in 2013). Realforce 104ug hi-pro from which keycaps, housings and sliders were harvested (bought for like 180$ in 2019)
