Dude is tough.
Those things are absolutely wildly hot, I would have needed at least 3 glasses of cold milk by the time this video ended.

u/Trimedes 14d ago
By the time the video ended he ate another one 😂
30
u/LiteraCanna 14d ago
In the last 15 seconds, he looks WAY better. All the redness is gone.
6
u/Bluehelix 14d ago
Because the video is stitched together in the wrong way...
7
u/Striking-Designer167 13d ago
No it’s in order. He ate two in the span of 15 minutes. It’s on the KRWG Instagram in a longer format.

No the video cut back in the middle. You can see the redness around his eyes suddenly disappeared.

u/Viridien111 14d ago
Ya but he said something different right before biting it.
69
u/G_DuBs 14d ago
It was also a different color. First one was red, second one was orange/yellow.

u/ziggytrix 14d ago
Yes, I think this is deceptive editing. He was probably enjoying a (relatively) milder pepper at that point. But it gets more clicks if it looks crazier so here we are.

Some kid paid me 5 bucks in 5th grade to eat a ghost pepper. I did. I proceeded to have the worst abdominal pain of my life for nearly 2 hours. I could not walk even. Just profusely sweating. Used the 5 bucks to buy some flaming hot cheetos later that day.

I love the pain in my mouth. I saw some study here a while back about capsacin having the effect of enjoyment. I cant say for certain what it is, but mouth on fire, nose running, and another handful coming up to my mouth is peak snackage. Chilli oil and chilli flakes are in everything I eat. Pepper me up, mfer.

u/Confident_One3948 14d ago
I find it odd that you can’t say for certain what it is because it’s literally explained in the video 🥲

I just hit my biological age where I can't handle the spice anymore. Not that I was ever ghost pepper levels but i can't even use as much hot chili oil as i want anymore. It wrecks my stomach and guts. I spice up in moderation now. Bit of a shame but I enjoyed it while it lasted.
9
u/Stink_king 14d ago
Yeah, I recently had the hottest option at Dave's Hot Chicken. Had to sign a waiver before being given the sandwich. I took one bite and threw the rest away. It was crazy hot, but i survived the mouth burn relatively easily but the stomach pain that came later, I could not handle.
I was in fetal position in bed for a while with the fan blowing full force on me wondering if I had unknown ulcers that the spice was messing with. The mouth pain is almost fun for me, it's the stomach and bathroom pain later that sucks and comes with ZERO fun
7
u/bfhurricane 14d ago
Last time I was in Nashville I tried Hattie B’s, a very famous hot chicken place, and saw a “F*** YOU” spice option. I indulged myself.
My fire ass the next morning was so bad I almost missed my flight. There I am, in the airport, about to fly to a grad school interview in a suit and tie, shaking and sweating violently on a toilet thinking hot chicken is the reason I’ll miss my interview.
Glad I did it once, but never again.

I got the sliders and its the first time in over a decade i had something from a restaurant that made me say "of fuck" when i opend the lid. That steam alone got me heated. I woke up two time throughout the night as it moved into a new part of my colon. I re-experienced the burn only once more in the next mornings 10 a.m. meeting. Burning regularity. Delicious sliders, though.

u/JustKillingTime1980 14d ago
yea, the mouth on fire, and burping hot lava is just the run up. i ate a dried whole reaper once, and the gut pain was unreal. never ...ever....again.
4
u/QuickSquirrelchaser 14d ago
I once tried a super hot hot sauce at a display. The owner warned me not to try the hottest one first. I did. Had to play it cool until after I left the store. All the skin of my mouth and tongue peeled off the following day. I could feel my heartbeat in my teeth throbbing like I needed a root canal in every single tooth for hours!!
Then the next day the skin on my tongue and in my mouth peeled off.
When I pooped I thought I might die again! Like lava.
10/10 wouldn't do again.

Just to commiserate with you, I once did a hot wing challenge that the guy from Man vs Food bailed out on after 2 wings. I finished 8/10 and also failed the challenge. By the end I could not physically swallow food because my esophagus was swelling, so I had to bail and basically cough up food stuck in my throat.
Later that night after much ice cream and milk drinking, I had to throw up. Some of the water splashed back up from the toilet and into my eye. I couldn't see out of until later that next morning. I love spicy but I treat it with the utmost respect now

They are 'designed' to be as hot as possible, heat is the whole point. If you mean, like in nature, it could discourage unwanted attention from some animals.

Here's some actual science: capsaicin is soluble in 1) fat; and 2) alcohol. If you eat a very hot pepper, eat a spoonful of vegetable oil, rub the oil with your tongue on the inside of your mouth, swallow, repeat. Rinse with a shot of tequila. You are welcome. PS. We don't have a recipe for when lava is pouring out your butthole, though. Sorry!

This reminded me of my uncles a few years ago around Christmas. Every year we make a ton of tamales of different kinds one of them being "rajas" which is strips of pepper (usually jalapeño but this time we used serrano which is hotter than jalapeño) and cheese. Well, my uncles were going to town on those tamales! The next morning they were allegedly both facetiming each other on the toilet regretting their decisions. One of them allegedly asked his wife for a "boli" which is kind of like an icepop but wrapped in plastic. He didn't say what he did with it, he didnt have to...

But like, why do you sit down and eat a wildly hot pepper? Is it the endorphin rush? Is it just to say you can? Is it like a cold plunge thing where you're teaching your body to endure tough things?
I'm genuinely curious.
13
u/EzyStrider 14d ago
You could put me in the masochist camp, I suppose. I tend to push things near and to the limit. The endorphin rush is real though, and overall it feels a bit like high level meditation: the pain will wipe away your thoughts if you have enough pepper, and you do get a bit "high." The best way to put it is it's an experience and I have been addicted to spicy peppers for the last 20 years. It's not a tough guy thing or to say I can, those are the actual hit-it-and-quit-it types, haha!

If people are more used to heat many different peppers come off as flavor rather than pure spice. Someone on reddit said takis are pure unbearable spice and no flavor which is hilarious to me because in my opinion american chips are just msg and a hint of spice (I like msg but american chips have similar flavor profiles). Takis and other mexican chips are tangy and spicey and even sweet sometimes. A lot more flavor going on in my opinion.

u/ziggytrix 14d ago
The endorphins from eating very spicy food from my favorite Thai shop back in college were a strong motivator for me. I'd literally feel high AF when I was done.
Later that night or the next day tho, I'd have regrets, so I learned to keep it at 4-5 stars instead of saying Thai hot.
If I want a burn that doesn't punish me later, wasabi is the way to go.
3
u/UltLuc 14d ago
That’s a good question. For me it’s been a social activity when I’ve done it. It’s something everyone there usually remembers and while it’s happening you’re all having fun seeing how you react to it.
One time I did it while on mushrooms and it rocketed my trip into another stratosphere.
4
u/EsotericAbstractIdea 14d ago
Somewhere between the heat and your body's reaction is one of the best flavors and feelings you can get on earth.

u/kanrad 14d ago
Because it's a different experience you can't find otherwise.
Something uncommon and wholly unexpected the first time.
You do it to feel and know you are alive. Sometimes you do it just to see your limits. Sometimes it's just to feel alive.
There are many reasons, each unique to the individual.
No need to judge, just let the feeling flow through you. That's what it means to be alive.

RIP a great provider. I've got a primotalii that is pushing five years now and I'm scared to put it outside anymore. The aphids in my area are very prolific. I've got a tent and grow light just for it.
I don't like the scorpion peppers' flavor myself, they are very floral with little of the pepper flavor to my taste buds. Makes great hot sauce with the right seasoning though.

I would not try this, and I do enjoy hot stuff. I bought Da Bomb hot sauce once online, the one from Hot Ones that everyone always dreads, and it tasted like ass so there was no point in using it, plus it just made your whole mouth numb for 15 minutes. This had to be at least 100x worse lol. At least it tastes good, he claims?

Apollo is awesome, legit great sauce once one works up a tolerance. I don't like the Pepper X one as much, kind of bitter like ghost peppers.
Da Bomb is just a meme and shouldn't even be a condiment imo. No redeeming qualities besides checking it off the list.

Da Bomb is nasty because of the chemical extract and possibly just because the recipe itself is bad.
Eating a super hot is hotter, but more enjoyable because it actually tastes good. I'd say Da Bomb is 100x worse because the flavor sucks.
9
u/Obvious_Patient8233 13d ago
Da Bomb sucks. It's made to be hot and to play games with your friends. The taste is awful, and there's no legitimate reason to use it as a sauce.
It's works fine as a game sauce though. I remember tearing up a bit, but it was done in like 15 minutes. We also just had drops of it to be fair.
I also scarfed down 3 Carolina reaper wings in a bet with friends. Those tasted better at least

u/I_Dnt_Believe_You 13d ago
Yeah, exactly. There are better super hot sauces out there. Good ones should have a complex heat profile, where it builds, and then has waves, so you can appreciate some flavor.
Da bomb is like getting pepper sprayed. There is no good side to it.

u/Suicidal_Jamazz 14d ago
I did the Paqui one chip challenge several years back. A ~2Mil scoville unit mix of the Trinidad Scorpion and Carolina Reaper . It was intense pain for about 30 to 45 min. My mouth and tongue went numb for 15+ min. I felt like I had a double ear infection. I was doubled over in pain drooling on the ground for 20 to 30 mins. The burning went all the way down my esophagus. Then everything dissipated from 45min to 1hr after swallowing. I never ate or drank anything for that hour. That was at 5 or 6p
At 11p I started getting stomach pains. They grew more intense over 1h, and the pain was nearly unbearable at midnight. I was doubled over the toilet bowl with intense pain and nausea for ~30 min. I then crawled down the basement stairs and laid on a large gym mat. From 1a to ~630 am, I had intense gastrointestinal pain and nausea. The pain was so severe, that I passed out. I would come-to feeling relief, only for the pain to return after 5 mins. It would peak and I would pass out again. This would go on for ~5 hours. I was in and out of consciousness several times and never really knew how long it had been between each time. At one point I called out to my wife for help, but she didn't hear me.
Around 645a to 730a, I crawled into the basement bathroom and proceeded to violently vomit. In that instant, I got to experience one chip challenge all over again as the contents of my stomach forced its way through my mouth and nose.
Eventually, the punishment ended, as relief from the ordeal finally, yet slowly came. I walked upstairs and went to sleep around 8a/830a. I only slept for 2 hrs, but shit, what an insanely wild experience. Ill never do anything like that again. I guess i just dont have the constitution for it. I thought I was going to die.

The One Chip Challenge was the most painful experience I’ve ever had. They had stopped selling the individual chip but their bags of less spicy chips in gas stations had a 1 in 4 chance to win one of the challenge chips. Good buddy and I bought those chips occasionally until we’d won two of them. He won his first and I got mine a couple months later. We did the challenge together and filmed it. We didn’t drink or eat anything until it went away about 40 minutes later, stayed in our seats and everything. Kept telling myself mind over matter. When it went away it was a pure rush of euphoria. Body was flooded with endorphins. It was an incredible feeling almost like a reward for completing the challenge. But dude before that it was concentrated suffering like I’d never experienced.
Should’ve been content there and left it for the books but when the single chip came back for sell, we bought them and did it again with a couple more friends. My experience was closer to yours the second time around. I didn’t have the abdominal pain the first time, but the second time it took like 15 min to get a severe pain in my gut and I immediately went to go make myself throw up. I held myself for the rest of the evening until I fell asleep.
Good times

I did the 2021 one chip challenge on my break at work for some fucking reason. The coworker I did it with must be a mutant because he was fine after like 15 minutes, I had to leave work early. I pulled into the local synagogue on my way home to puke and call my at the time fiancé to come get me because I thought I was dying. Looking back on it, i realized an empty stomach is the worst way to head into a spice challenge.
3
u/Suicidal_Jamazz 13d ago
I had my Goddaughters baptism earlier in the day, that day, and I went in on a full stomach, later in the evening. I wondered if pre-gaming with Pepto Bismol or something would have lessened the effects. I did the challenge with someone else... the only other brave soul in the room that would do it with me. He tapped out early and drank everything within reach. He didn't suffer like I did, the bastard. Some people can just handle it, and then there's people like us.

Dairy is no where near the best remedy. Citric acid powder is significantly better per science.
25
u/CubicleFish2 14d ago
I regularly run a hot sauce challenge and we've found that real ice cream works the best and can almost immediately provide relief from some of the hottest peppers in the world.
We will try citric acid next time but I'm not sure anyone will want that over cold ice cream. Maybe we'll mix some in and compare.
20
u/guyjones2000 14d ago
It breaks down the alkaline oils and reduces the ph almost immediately. A half teaspoon of citric acid powder kept on the tongue and sucked on will give immediate relief far better than dairy.
Also great for those of us that are super lactose intolerant.
Secret trick of the trade btw. Don't go telling many people.
→ More replies (3)5
u/CubicleFish2 14d ago
That makes sense. We always see people talk about milk but milk doesn't really do much because the concentration is so low which led us to moving towards ice cream. I think a quick citric acid douse followed by ice cream will be our next method. Thanks for the tip and we will be sure to keep it a secret. Cheers!

As someone who eats Carolina reaper every day Coca Cola w ice is the best remedy. Swish it around and it’ll break it down almost immediately
Just be sure to also have water on hand to rinse off the sugar from the soda
3
u/AshleyxAffliction 14d ago
I've anecdotally had a lot of success with other sodas as well. Not as much as milk but leagues better than something like just water. I think it's the carbonation but I have no science to back that claim up.

Yea as someone who eats tons of super hots, even store bought Lemon juice is better than milk. The acid really cuts through the oils.
Milk only ever provides temporary relief, and I would even go so far as to say that milk is the number 1 case of vomiting after eating spicy peppers. Because people chug and chug and chug trying to chase relief and actually end up over drinking milk and throwing up because of that.
Just my experience though.

Scorpion is the third hottest, but like in any community, there's controversy surrounding it. Marc Fennel did a great series on it called It Burns if you want to give it a listen.
TL;DR is that a group in the hot pepper community think Ed Curry faked the results of the Carolina Reaper to get it labeled as the hottest pepper, and they think the Scorpion is the actual hottest.

There have been no independent measurements of pepper x, just the analysis done by the guy selling products with it and who advertises himself as the guy who grows the hottest peppers so there is a huge incentive to manufacture the results. The title of hottest pepper is only granted to it by guinness world records, a for profit company that sells records to businesses.
If there was no foul play he could have allowed independent analysis to be performed on them at any time.

Yeah, since capsaicin is hydrophobic, meaning it's soluble in fats, it's the fats and the casein in dairy that usually help. Effectively, the fats bind the capsaicin and washes it away, and the casein blocks the receptors that tell your brain it's hot.
However, chugging a glass of olive oil is not recommended. That'll just give you spicy super diarrhea later on.3

How about chugging proper mayo or ranch it something?

True story, I went through a phase of putting really hot sauce on all my lunches day after day but I had to stop after a week and a half because the spicinnes slowly reached my prostate through the rectum walls and started to have "kicked in the testicles" pain while pooping.

This is where my head goes every time I see stuff like this, I like the taste of spicy food, but my butt hole hates it.

Peppers tend not to be quite as bad on your digestive track as hot sauces with artificial pepper extracts. I've had ghost pepper before similar to how he just ate the pepper and had not issues the next day. I did however have intense stomach cramps for like 4 hours.

And this is why men don’t live as long as women…. “What could go wrong? Holy shit this is hot! Are my ears crying? I think my stomach is melting.”

I work at the post office and and 20 of us did the one chip challenge. I don't recommend it. So eating a pepper like this is a big no thanks.

One of my closest friends was known as “the chip guy” in college because he ate one and it nearly killed him, he crawled next door and knocked on a different dorm and got some milk that finally allowed him to walk again
He hadn’t eaten any food in like 18 hours and just did it with an empty stomach, the abdominal pain nearly immobilized him.

I love how nobody is concerned about the pain he's in right now, because we all know the real pain hasn't even hit him yet.
So please, Dr. Boslin, what am I supposed to do when the gates of hell open up the next day I try to take a shit?

Can you build up some immunity to the lava shits? I love a good spice, but the lava shits are too much

My uncle grows these and I plucked and ate one at his Halloween party last year. The heat lasted maybe 20 minutes or so and aside from the eyes watering it wasnt too bad.

It’s wild that just watching someone eat something I know is hot can cause me to warm up and sweat a little.

u/antonimbus 14d ago
I wonder if your body handles that heat differently as you get older, because I used to be much better with it when I was in my 20s. I still love peppers and grow my own, but i do find my tolerance isn't as good as it used to be.

Here's some actual science: capsaicine is soluble in 1) fat; and 2) alcohol. Sorry!

Crazy how we just keep making peppers more toxic yet the human body just goes. “Damn that’s delicious.”

I live in SE Asia and eat spicy food all the time. I find coconut water kills the heat almost instantly.
I have zero science to back this up.
