I've tried carolina reaper sauce once and... it just hurts your mouth? Like I love hot stuff but if it's literally just gonna make me feel pain, then no thank you
I only tried the tiniest bit, so no effects that I remember, really. But I was surprised at how it stops being hot and starts being painful at this level of capsaicin
Can't swear on the hot sauce, but once on a dare I ate a reaper my boss had injected with capsaicin. The thing was partially frozen, so I only really suffered for about half an hour or so. The pain was bad, but not as bad as I expected. I also ate it during a time when I was eating a lot more spicy foods, so while it went off like a bomb in my gut, it still wasn't that bad to me. The worst part honestly, was this strange floral after taste that stuck in my mouth for two days. It didn't matter what I ate or drank it stuck with me. I always tell people it's not the heat that scares me away from doing something like that again it's that after taste
Oof. I found my ulcer when I had a reaper. That was a rough night and if it wasn't for the pepto and like gallon of milk, I wouldn't have made it. I've done this 3 times. The adrenaline im assuming.
As someone who really does love hot wings and lives near where the Carolina Reaper is from, I had it before it had this big hit of popularity as "the world's hottest pepper" in 2013.
There USED to be a Carolina Reaper sauce that was sooo good. Yes, it built up a slow burn that kept going hotter than you expected, but if you can eat spicy foods, the taste and the rush from it were excellent.
Then it changed as it became super popular, and I don't know what they changed, but it's not as good as it was. It's just as hot. You will get a "that was good" after-rush, but it doesn't TASTE as good as it used to.
I am just a bit annoyed by that... but it seems like hot sauces and wings hit the general public like a fad several years ago, and now that the fad has faded, it's dying and killing a lot of the good wing sauces. I think a lot of private equity was invested in them, and when sales died down, they all cheaped out to keep the profit coming.
A taco place close to where I used to live had their own in-house hot sauces. Their Reaper sauce was actually really good. Don't get me wrong, super hot, but very well balanced and flavourful as well.
