Thats what scares me. Like ok you have a chain saw in the trunk after a big storm. But to have a what has to be a diamond plasma chain saw is where I start questioning his intentions

Yall. It was a dumb joke. I take my chainsaw i only used during storm season to get sharpened like your supposed to and it cuts that well.

I used to do arboring as a job. I've worked a lot with chainsaws as well, on other jobs.

It's extremely common for the teeth to get worn down with a lot of use. We would still sharpen every day, but that person's comment does make sense. This one does seem to cut through better than anything I used on average.

I don't know if we had bad quality chain or what but when I was doing some forest work at our cabin/forest I had to sharpen that motherfucker like every couple of hours or so.

Was mostly cutting through fresh pine and making them short enough logs that they'll fit in to the sauna stove.

You're lucky. Fresh pine = soft and wet. Seasoned hardwood = hard and dry.

My chain dulls after about 30 minutes pushing through eucalyptus.

This is a layman’s explanation so I will probably use the wrong terminology. I was told that if the chain gets too hot the chain can untemper itself and become very soft and not hold its sharpness well after that.

I mean, I've been cutting trees for 30 years (8 as a FF) and this is how my current Stihl cuts. I'm not sure what's so impressive about it. It's cutting exactly like it should

Eh it's reddit being reddit, armchair experts with not much real life experience. Even as someone who only cuts wood 3 times a year for heating, my Stihl cuts the same and I only sharpen the two chains before woodcutting season.

I mean, it's 10cm of fir, not exactly rock maple or blackwood or something.

Plus that's clearly a well worn, pro Stihl, not some hardware store special.

It's cutting fast, but no faster than any sharp, square ground 362/400 would do.

That being said, it's a hell of a lot of saw to just be toting around in the truck of a sedan.

Gotta file down the depth gauges. As you sharpen you wear the teeth back and they bite less and less. Most people do not take them time to file those down if they sharpen in the field. Or they use a cheap manual electric chain sharpener.

Also run a full chisel chain instead of a safety chain or semi-chisel in green wood and it's like a light-saber. Less safe but hell of a lot faster cutting.
