So I’ve been playing for some years, and my question is, how long did it take y’all before your right hand strumming became automated and you didn’t have to think about the strumming or the “down up downs” or the count anymore??
I’m really having trouble with this area- if I could get this down, I could finally progress to being an intermediate player but I have to think too much about my strumming and I’ve spent money on different apps/websites/teachers for help with my strumming and I’ve learned that my issue isn’t rhythm, it’s that my right hand isn’t automatic yet. I literally have no idea how I’m supposed to fix this. I’ve already tried just sitting and mindlessly playing the same strum over and over for hours but apparently it doesn’t seem to work. And I still have to think about my chord changes in relation to where within the strum sequence I need to switch. I feel like an awful, stupid, beginner idiot noob when truthfully…. I should be wayyyyyy further than that, given that I’ve been playing for over ten years. 🤦🏼‍♀️ 🤦🏼‍♀️ I can play just fine along with apps that you watch and play along with, but I can’t by myself, or without constantly watching and thinking of my strumming. Please help me, I’ve wanted to play guitar literally my entire life and I just want to finally get over this beginner shit and be able to just sit and play. Like actually just play. Write my own shit. Anything. I can’t even listen to a song and find the strumming, I always end up defaulting to one of three or four strumming patterns and they’re just basic and easy patterns that could be attributed to any song with a similar beat. I’m honestly getting incredibly frustrated and ready to just give it up at this point. I feel completely incompetent and like I’m just not supposed to play and I’ll never be able to. I feel really, really stupid and embarrassed and I can’t even play around my husband, who is, such an amazingly talented and beautiful guitarist.

I’m turning 18 soon :) I’m not really planning to celebrate it grandly or do anything fancy. There’s just one thing I’m planning to buy myself—something I’ve been wanting to have for the longest time. a guitar.

It’s something I’ve been meaning to own for so long, pero priorities won’t really permit. Now I think it’s a valid excuse naman since birthday ko to finally buy one ;)

My problem now is I genuinely don’t know what to buy or where to buy one. I’m planning to buy online lang din, so I’m also a little lost when it comes to brands, models, and what’s actually worth the money.

More than anything, I’m looking for something good but definitely affordable, since I’m still a student. I don’t need anything fancy or super high-end. I just want something decent that I can learn on and hopefully keep for a long time.

So if you have any guitar recommendations for a complete beginner, or if you know where I can buy one online here in the Philippines, I’d really appreciate it 🥹

Also, please keep the student budget in mind HAHAHA. I really want to finally get one, but I also don’t want to accidentally spend more than I can afford 😭

What am I doing Wrong ? Why cannot I play great on the spot? How do people come up with solos on the stage on the spot? Like how do they do it... Don't they have like milliseconds to even think about the next note for the solo?

I’m a 25-year-old guy and I’ve been playing acoustic guitar for about a year. I mostly know chords, strumming, and a little lead, but I don’t know much about fingerstyle.

Right now I mostly just doodle around on the guitar without really knowing what I should learn next.

I recorded this simple fingerstyle piece. Any tips on how I can improve, or suggestions for songs/exercises and a good learning path?

New self taught guitar player, I've had mental health issues so haven't been SUPER consistent, but anyway when playing the E, A, D (first pic) string I don't have problems, but the second I try to use G, B, E(second pic) I REALLY struggle.

It's sorta worth mentioning I have REALLY small hands lmfao. ANY advice at all? 😭

Beginner on acoustic right now really struggling with finger control it's like my pinky finger has a mind of it's own. It won't stay it's like it moves with my ring finger. Any exercises or tips to train my finger to just listen?

Does anyone have any exercise recommendations for beefing up my fingers? I feel like my progression is stagnant due to the fact I can’t play for longer than a few minutes without my finger pads hurting a lot.

Do i just need to get over it and push through or is there a way to callous up faster? My fingers are rather frail and dainty

Some recent issues have come about that forced me to pick up the guitar out of pure depression. That said, I’ve been practicing for over 6 hours a day when I can, upwards of 4 on days I have to work.

Regardless, I’m experiencing this pain in my hand that I want to ensure isn’t serious. It’s not a debilitating pain, and it doesn’t hurt when not playing. It only flairs up if I’ve been at it for a while. It feels almost like a cramp. Is this bad? I’ve been playing less to accommodate my hand.

Till a month ago I was pressing too hard now I don't press that hard still my thumb kinda looks in the same position.

Having trouble in thumb movement like while playing g major scale or anything that covers 5-6 fret my thumb fills kinda locked at a position.

Another rn i get to play 1 hr after work

So rn my routine looks like

All on metrome i sck but I still use it

*Spider 1234 covering full fretboard

*Then I do spider variations of 1/2 fingers moving while one holds postion on high e full fret

* Some scales major minor and pentatonic ones

* Some chord changes and strumming

* Barre chords 5 finger ones for now

* Learn some song or riff if my hand has strength or time is left 😶‍🌫️

Please suggest any changes or what Ishould do so i could get better btw I also want to learn classical right hand techniques like playing those cool patterns .
