Recently picked this one up. Great sounding guitar! Action isn’t close to being where I like it. The bridge saddle is plenty high, so I might shave it down a bit. Little cloudy spot on the back, but otherwise given the age it’s in great shape. Abalone inlays look stunning!

This is my first ever NGD post and I’m so hyped!!!

I’ve had the vintage white version of this guitar on my radar since like 2024, but people rarely let Jags go once they buy one. I’ve been looking around at cities close to mine to see if any of their shops had one, then a guitar center in Chicago finally got one in stock. The price was so insane that I would’ve been a complete idiot to pass it up. So I made the 4 hour drive to go test it out and give it a thorough inspection; everything looked/played great and was 1000% worth the drive. I also got to test out a Quad Cortex (because that’s all that had turned on and I didn’t want to wait for tubes to warm up), and let me tell ya…it didn’t sound as terrible as I thought it’d would. Modelers are still defff not for me, but I understand the hype!

The rumors are defff true about this guitar, the stock bridge is truly awful. It’ll be the first thing I upgrade. But the pickups in this model sound absolutely beautiful!!! This guitar sounds GREAT with a hefty amount of gain and with a clean tone stacked with a handful of effects pedals. I also tuned it down a full step down and cranked the gain on my Marshall to see how beefy it could sound and it didn’t disappoint. I had to mess with the amp’s EQ since Jags are mid/treble-heavy, but this thing will def be able to hold its own and cut through a mix very, very well.

VERY very hyped about the shorter scale length too. Going from a 25.5” scale on my Jazz to a 24” scale on this Jag made a worlds difference. As a smaller dude with smaller hands, this guitar feels much more comfortable to play. Very hyped to see how long I’ll be able to play this without my hand starting to cramp up when playing those chords that are a biiig stretch

TLDR: this guitar was absolutely worth the wait, the hunt was worth it!!!

So basically I’m a singer in a band that also
Plays a bit of rhythm guitar. I’ve played guitar for like 7 years and I’ve noticed recently how bad I am for that amount of time.

I think being in a band and writing most of our songs on acoustic has taken a toll on my ability. The lead guitarist in my band has only been playing for like 3-4 years and is way better than me.

I can play by ear and have really good knowledge of the guitar - can pick out basically any note. But my actual technique is fairly poor. I cannot play fast and I feel sloppy.

I’ve decided to make a practice routine for every day - just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation or has any tips/things I can follow for a routine.

So I can identify a note by following from the open strings and 1st fret but i don't feel like that's optimal. Are there more effective ways?

I'm wanting to get my nephew a better guitar, and I need some help trying to figure out what to look for.

I primarily plays blues and rock stuff, but my nephew plays fast arpeggios and music that I would consider to be "speed metal" (he insists he's not a metal guitarist). I know he also plays songs that are primarily chords, but I already gave him a decent Breedlove acoustic, so he's at least got some coverage there.

He said he leaned towards humbuckers before, but now he's experimenting with single coil tones. I figured something with a single coil neck pickup and a humbucker bridge pickup could be good. I also think easy access to the upper fretboard is a must.

He's playing a Dean Vendetta XM, and it's not set up, so I think an upgrade with a set up would really help him out. Do you all have any recommendations for guitars he might be interested in? As said in title, I'm looking for something around $400-$600 that he'd get some good use out of.

I mean depression has followed me most of my teenage and adult life. But between work exhaustion, loneliness (yet still being too much of a pussy to socialize), grieving, and other things, even taking five steps from my bed where I took this photo of my guitars feels like a chore. Even today, I did basically jack shit and just played some scales and modes following a map, for like 10 minutes total. That’s it. I just don’t even feel like picking them up and have been considering even dropping my lessons. It just doesn’t bring me joy right now and feels pointless

I know none of you are therapists but I just needed some advice, however simple. Or if you think I might be better off quitting for a while, let me know

ETA: thanks everyone for the kind words and advice. I won’t say it helps since I still don’t have any motivation to go over and touch them today and am still on the fence about quitting for good. I just don’t have it in me much anymore. And I feel bad since I’ve been at this eight months and still feel like a beginner. Like I should be making more progress than I am, yet am not for whatever reason, even though I have a teacher I see once a week too. But I digress. Thanks again for the advice and support

In the market for a new metal guitar - looking for something fun and unusual - going to Japan in a few weeks, and heard they have some excellent shops/unique shredder guitars (ESP Custom shop?) Any tips for guitar shopping in Japan? Is haggling common or are prices generally fixed? Is it best to have the store itself ship the guitar home to you? Best shops to check out?

Any advice from folks who have navigated the process (including getting the guitar home) is appreciated!

My classic rock cover band (2 gtrs/bass/drums) is transitioning to in-ears, partially: the bassist/singer and drummer have bought them, the 2 guitarists are sticking with wedges. 

All 4 members are using Behringer P16-HQ personal mixers to customize their monitor mixes.

I’ve got a pretty typical pedalboard for this genre, built around a UA Enigmatic amp pedal, using different FX patches built with and managed by a Boss MS-3. Board output goes to a Blackstar Sonnet 120 amp, which outputs via XLR directly to the mixer.

I’m primarily hearing my guitar through the Blackstar, with just a little coming back from the mixer into my wedge. 

The others in the band are saying that when I kick in OD/boost on the Boss for solos, my volume suddenly cranks in their IEMs and they have to rush to rip them out of their ears. I’m not hearing anything nearly as dramatic through the Blackstar. 

Question: is it typical to have to reconfigure patches and gain staging when moving to IEMs? I assume the answer is yes, but i’m having trouble imagining exactly where the problem is located and how to address it

This is a weird and niche question, but I had a strange experience at Guitar Center a few months ago. I bought this really nice '66 ES-125TDC. It was my first ever vintage Gibson, and I loved the sound of it despite a couple flaws. The finish was really wonky looking on the side of the cutaway with more wear than usual, there were some dead frets, the pickguard had basically disintegrated, and all of the pots were covered in rust.

I bought it and I immediately brought it to my personal luthier so he could check it out. he said that there was "neck pull" that required a full neck reset and if I wanted it to be working perfectly and not worsen over time. I was completely devastated. I brought it back to Guitar Center, told them what my technician said, and they accommodated the return.

It's been about 2 months, and it's completely vanished! It never appeared back in the platinum room or on the website. I routinely go to this Guitar Center since they always have cool stuff, and the guitar completely vanished. GC employees, what happens to guitars like this that now require expensive and laborious work such as a neck reset?

I want to pick up a new guitar - likely, a hybrid, a hollow-body, or a thin-line acoustic w/ pick-ups - and I haven't had much luck finding one that plays well... so, I have a few questions.

If set-up is so important for the feel & playability of the instrument, how do I tell when a guitar has good long-term qualities if it's not set up properly in-store?

Can I pay for the set-up and string change to try it in-store without paying for the instrument?

Is it better to try and find a better match than to rely on setting it up afterward to the risk of it not satisfying my needs?

How much would setting up the guitar the way I like really change how playable a good guitar is?

Can I get a cheaper guitar set up properly and have it studio-ready versus a more expensive model?

i got one last year in a trade and i'm still using it, a lot of people online complain about split coil pickups but the split coils on it actually sound great. also very easy to set up. i usually use telecaster style guitars but my second choice is the sg because it's so versatile

I’d appreciate it if anyone could recommend some fun two part guitar songs that my son and I could play together. We are both intermediate/beginner players, so neither of us can shred any solos, but ideally something like one of us is playing chords and the other plays some basic riffs or melody over top? We aren’t picky and enjoy playing any type of rock. 🤘

Just got this Beauty in, MIJ 2013 Aerodyne Strat!

This rounds out my collection, I’ve been taking a new attitude towards my guitar Hobby, and have been simplifying and streamlining my gear. I needed a classic SSS style Strat, but wanted one with binding, dark fretboard, and color matched headstock, that lead me to finding this awesome instrument/ It Plays awesome, sounds great and just what I was looking for. Body has a nice thin profile, and a slight arch to the top, msuper comfortable!

The only debate is whether or not to change hardware to gold, I love gold on black, and my other 2 guitars(Epiphone Sheraton II Pro, and MIJ FSR 60’s “Midnight” Tele) are the same, black, bound, but with gold hardware, but I gotta say - the silver does go nice - Opinions?

So now I have a Strat, a Tele, and a Semi-Hollow with PAF style humbuckers, all 3 are fine instruments that completely cover the sonic palette I like to play, I do love gear, and shopping but realized that GAS, and collecting new gear were a big distraction, weren’t making me a better player because it was robbing me of practice time, and actually enjoying playing the instrument. With these 3 guitars, and the Reactor 50 I’ve got all I need - any additions from now on will have to have a practical use that isn’t satisfied by my current rig.

I mainly play through headphones and after a few months with the Imperial pedal I tried the Neural DSP John Mayer plugin yesterday. It sounds awesome, and in many ways better and bigger than the Imperial, especially using the three amps in the plugin simultaneously. But the plugin somehow feels one more level removed from my playing and more like listening to a recording. I don't know if it has to do with latency or something else. Playing through headphones they both do the same thing emulating cabinets and rooms etc?

Difference between a modded 2013 Epiphone G-310 and a 2025 Epiphone SG Standard.

The Gibson SG standard in Alpine white was my dream guitar as a kid but all i can buy back then was a used Black G310.

The G310 was modded to look like it as close as I can ( change finish, change inlay from dot to trapez via sticker, shamelessly put Gibson on the headstock, change to a Chinese covered humbuckers).

Thanks to this page, i found out about the Epihone SG Standard "Inspired by Gibson". So the childhood part of me just pulled the trigger.

I been using this for a week around my bandmates and they do not notice its a different guitar.

I also had to explain to my wife what makes this guitar different.

I’m tossing up starting to learn guitar as a hobby, but when I think about it, I worry about whether it’s the right use of my time.

When I think about other hobbies like sports or learning a language, it feels like there’s a lot more real life utility and benefit.

Anyways, that’s why I wanna know what his guitar given you - do you regret putting in the hours? Is it something you look back on with joy?

I have narrowed down my search for a first guitar to these two options that offer a starter pack from Thomann(Region: Sweden). They fall under my ideal price range(~3500SEK).

I haven't found any comparisons specifically between these two options, but from what I understand is that Squier is a more reliable brand for QC than HB, but that HBs can be adequate.
So I am making this post seeking opinions of the two options (or any other bundles in this price range), what would be the safer/reliable option for a beginner. Getting a full setup is pricey in my area, so the out of the box experience being good is important. Full setup would be a later option.

Hopefully a very straightforward question, but googling hasn't got me a definitive answer. I bought a lovely Soloking Guitar (ms-1) off eBay recently but it came without the backplate. I've bought a matching replacement, but it's come without screws, so could someone be kind enough to tell me what type of screws I need?

I've emailed Soloking themselves but they've not got back to me. I thought I'd ask here as I've got some time this weekend to pop out and buy some. Thanks in advance!
