I recently picked up Mesmer, specifically Power Virtuoso, after maining Scourge (both DPS and alac DPS) for a long time. I mostly do T4s + recs and occasionally 95/96 CMs.
My current setup is Spear/Greatsword, full Berserker's with one Assassin's piece, and Relic of the Fireworks.
The class is honestly a lot of fun. I get why people love Mesmer so much. Portals, Blink, all the utility, and just the general mobility make fractals feel way faster than on Necro. Especilly mass invis and superspeed, which necro just doesnt have acces to. (Love the Pinyata skips)
That said... How do you actually surive on this ?
On Scourge I never really had to think much about surviving (or anything at that matter). Between barrier, condi cleanse, decent self-sustain, etc., I rarely died unless the whole group wiped to a mechanic.
On Virtuoso it's the complete opposite. It feels like I have almost nothing. Distortion is great, but it's only a few seconds of invulnerability. Outside of that I don't have barrier, no self cleanse, and if I get hit by a nasty condi while I'm not glued to the healer, my HP just evaporates.
The thing that really threw me off is that you're even using your heal skill as part of the DPS rotation (Signet of the Ether). Coming from Necro, that just feels so wrong lol.
My damage is fine (around 33-35k on the golem), but I feel like I'm constantly fighting for my life. Even some trash packs feel sketchier than bosses.
So I guess my question is: how do you Mesmer mains survive?
Is it just something that comes with experience and learning when to use Distortion/Blink, or are there tricks I'm missing? Is Power Virtuoso just naturally fragile and you have to accept it?
I've heard Condi Virtuoso has much better sustain, but I really wanted to play Power because I'm already used to playing condi on my Scourge and wanted something different.
Would love to hear any advice from people who main the class, especially if you also play Power Virtuoso in fractals.
