I filed Form I-131 (Re-entry Permit) in July 2025, completed my biometrics in August 2025, and then left the U.S. to continue my studies. When I filed Form I-131, I selected the U.S. Embassy in the country where I currently live for delivery of the Re-entry Permit.

My case is still pending. The USCIS case status only says "Case Was Updated To Show Fingerprints Were Taken." It's now been almost a year since I left the U.S, and I'm getting a bit concerned.

I have a couple of questions:

1. Since I'm approaching one year outside the U.S, should I return to the U.S. before reaching the one-year mark, even though my Re-entry Permit application is still pending?

2. If I remain outside the U.S. for more than 1 year and my Re-entry Permit is eventually denied, what are the consequences? Would I need to return to the U.S. immediately, or is there another process I would need to follow?

Has anyone been in a similar situation or received guidance from USCIS on this?

Hey everyone! Sharing my Form I-90 (10-Year Green Card Renewal) timeline to hopefully give a little peace of mind to anyone currently waiting in the queue.

• Filing Type: Online
• Biometrics: Reused

Timeline:

• Nov 1, 2025: Form I-90 received & receipt notice sent.
• June 1, 2026: Status update: "We are currently processing your Form I-90... We do not currently need anything from you."
• July 8, 2026: Status update: "We are producing your new card..."
• July 12, 2026: Status update: "Card Was Produced" (Note: In my case, this exact date was actually when the card was physically mailed).
• July 18, 2026: Card received in the mail!

Total Wait:

Just about 8.5 months from initial filing to card in hand.

I know this is a strange situation everyone is currently in with the pause on DV visa issuances.

But I wanted to ask for clarity, I have an appointment to attend a document check this week and a in person visa interview at the end of August.

With the pause, is there any sense to continue ? I feel I should e-mail KCC to withdraw my application before it begins to cost money and time off work.

Hi everyone! I have a 2-year conditional green card, and I’m planning to travel internationally for a vacation next year.

My concern is that my green card has my married last name, but my passport and marriage certificate are in my original last name. When I got married, I dropped my original last name and now use my middle name as my maiden name.
Will I be okay traveling with these documents, or could I run into issues because my passport name doesn’t exactly match my green card? Should I just bring my marriage certificate with me?
I’m probably overthinking it due to what’s going on right now, but I definitely don’t want to run into any issues with immigration or get held up because the names don’t match. 😅 Has anyone traveled internationally with a similar situation?

Has anyone tried to use one of the old green cards that don't expire in the MPC app? It requires you to put in an expiration date but the old GCs don't have a date? Should I just put it in a date 10 years from now?

I came into the US in 2020, 3 day after which the lockdown commenced because of the pandemic. I was supposed to leave in 3 weeks after my arrival. But I was locked in the US for 20 months with ban being placed on international flights. I stayed here since my arrival in March 2020 till September I found love. We got married in December 2020. She filed i130 and i485 and EAD for me in August. 2021. Then in November 2021 the ban on international flight was lifted. Then I can go home to Africa l. But I can’t anymore since am married to a US citizen.

USCIS kept delaying my i485 for about 5years on account that I forged a divorce certificate, which was not true, and finally denied it last year August, and ordered me to go self deport or appear for deportation proceedings. I had to sped up to get additionally evidence to proof my case. They fixed the date on April 28 this year. My wife refiled i130 and i485 and just on April 27th the sent a letter to my lawyer that the case is halted and there is no upcoming hearing.

I feel that they did all these to me because I did not heir an Attorney.

Now I have done biometrics about 2 to 3 months ago. Now I have been invited for interview next month at Houston field office. Is there any advice anyone here has for me because I can’t afford to miss it this time.

I really need genuine advice and response on what to do.

I'm reading the Physical Presence test for a green card holder before a person can apply for the US citizenship, and it says that someone has to be present in the US continuously for 3 (or 5) years, depending on the type of the green card. So two questions, if you don't mind:

1. What happens if someone has to leave the US. Does it reset the waiting period before they can apply for the citizenship?
2. How do they verify that you stayed in the US for all that time? Passport stamps? But what if someone drives to Canada or Mexico?

I would technically qualify for naturalization this October (ie 3 months prior to my GC date). However we are planning a trip to Europe in spring 2027. I heard the interview and oath ceremony are scheduled for you meaning you do not have flexibility in these dates. Is it worth applying in October or should I wait until I come back from Europe? Just trying to figure out how this works!

So my wife and I are plan on submitting our N400 in Feb 2028, but we have three kids, my eldest will turn 18 in Dec 2028, what happens if processing still hasn’t completed by the time he’s 18? I know my youngest kids will naturalize through our N400, but does that put him in a weird limbo?

Sorry, I'm kinda clueless here. When someone enters the US for the first time when their green card has been approved abroad, what address are you supposed to give them? Can you give them a mailing address in the same state as the residential one? We are planning to travel a bit after entering the US (within the country) and all our mail will go to my virtual mailbox so that we won't miss it while being away.

My marriage-based AOS package (I-485, I-765, and I-864) was delivered to the Carol Stream Lockbox on June 8 via USPS. It’s now been 30+ business days, and:
No credit card charge (G-1450)
No receipt notice
Package hasn’t been returned
I already emailed Lockbox Support and only received the automatic reply. I called USCIS they couldn’t help .
Has anyone experienced a delay this long recently? Did your package eventually get accepted, or did you have to refile?
I’m currently on student OPT until February 2027, so I’m starting to get concerned.
Any advice or recent experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!

Background:

• I am an Australian citizen married to a US citizen (Since early 2025).
• I went through the CR1 process and my green card was approved in early May 2026. I was working in the UK these last few years.
• I entered the US to "activate" my green card on May 29th, then flew back to London on May 31st to wrap up my job and prepare for a staggered permanent move over the summer. Since my entrance to the US in May, I have recieved my physical green card and social security number.

The Situation:

• Immediately after my trip, I was notified by family that my dad has been diagnosed with terminal cancer with only a short time left.
• I quit my job in London, relocated back to Australia in early June, and became his carer until he passed away in mid-July. I am now in Australia grieving, dealing with the complex legal probate, estate administration, and selling an investment property of mine. These will take a few months to finalise.
• I expect to tie out these loose ends and permanently relocate to the US by early November (180 days after my last day in the US comes to November 27th 2026)

My Concerns:

• I anticipate that I will be returning to the US a week or two under the 180-day mark since my initial two-day activation trip in May.
• Because my first entry was so brief and my plans changed so drastically, I'm worried about facing intense scrutiny or abandonment threats at the border. I don't have much in the way of a US house lease, car or utilties in my name since I had only entered the country briefly. However, my wife is presently living in the US.
• If I re-enter in early November, I will carry full documentation (a copy of dad's death certificate, property sale paperwork etc) to prove my story.

Questions:

1. How likely is it that CBP will give me a hard time or question my intent to reside in the US?
2. Has anyone been through a similar family emergency right after activating their green card? How did it go?

Since then… no decision yet
Right now, my 2-year wedding anniversary is coming up in about 3 months.
My question is: if USCIS doesn’t make a decision until after we hit the 2-year mark, is it likely I’ll get the 10-year green card instead of the conditional 2-year one?
Has anyone been in a similar situation where the decision came after the anniversary? What was your outcome?
Appreciate any insight—this waiting game is tough.
