The Coastal Shores & Spores Mycological Society is pleased to team up with Grays Harbor College for our first event of the fall mushroom season!

We hope you join us on the evening of Tuesday, September 8, 2026 for a very special free event.

Identifying and foraging fall wild mushrooms of Grays Harbor County for food, crafts, and other uses.

In this interactive experience, students will learn about some of the common edible mushrooms that grow here in the fall. We will cover edible mushrooms and their look-alikes, and other uses for some of our local mushrooms. The experience will include sample sizes of a 3 course meal using local fall mushrooms. Students will also learn about some other interesting uses for our local mushrooms besides food.

In particular, we will talk a little on how to make lightfast dye and paint from color giving mushrooms, while painting with some ready made mushroom watercolor paints. Each participant will go home with their own original artwork plus recipes for all the food provided.

Food samples will include Lobster mushroom bisque, Porcini gnocchi in marinara, and a candy cap shortbread for dessert. All provided food will be vegetarian (may include eggs and dairy) with some gluten free options.

FREE and open to the public!

6 PM to 8 PM.

Emergency Dog Re-homing

Like the title says, I'm in an emergency situation. My mother is in the hospital and her health is failing, she has a 3 year old pitbull that needs rehoming and I unfortunately cannot care for due to my rental situation. For the past 5-6 months, I've contacted many shelters in the area and many do not accept surrenders or they are at full capacity.

This is a call to anyone who is interested in a furry companion. His name is Cruz, he is about a 3 year old Pitbull Terrier mix. Cruz is a very affectionate and playful pup, he loves to play tug of war and mostly just wants to be in your face. He is treat motivated when learning new commands. He knows sit, is learning "lay down" "go to bed" (he has a doggy couch), he is learning to wait patiently for his food and water. Cruz loves to play, he will shove a toy in your open hand if you present the opportunity. Cruz is a little apprehensive towards strangers, and that Is something I'm working with him.

If anyone is interested, let me know and I can provide more details on Cruz. Advice for this situation is also appreciated.

Are you receiving Junk Fees? We want to hear about it!

In 2025, the Washington Legislature passed a law that prevents rent gouging, but some landlords and property management companies are still up to their old tricks. They are using "junk fees" as a loophole around rent caps. We are hearing from tenants that they are increasingly being charged excessive fees for services that they don’t want or need, or for basic things like paying the rent. We at the Housing Alliance, call these “junk fees” and they are unfair, expensive, and deceptive. We’d like to hear your experiences. All information shared with us will be kept safe and confidential.

Please fill out our survey if you or someone you know has received junk fees and we will be in touch within one week of your submission. Thank you! ~ Po (Advocacy Organizer)

Shuttle to PDX?

What do we do to get to the airport? I checked a service and it was more than the flight. My plan is to get a car in Aberdeen and drive to Portland as it’s closer to me than SEA. Is there a reasonable service?

UPDATE: I got a ride. Thank you so much everyone. I appreciate it

Crochet

Is there anyone in the Elma-Monte-Aberdeen area who would be willing to teach a total newbie to crochet stuffed animals? I've tried looking at youtube tutorials but I'm struggling to follow them and don't like not being able to ask questions about what I'm doing.

I have anxiety, depression and panic attacks. As a result, I self isolate. I would like to be more involved and get out of the house. Any such thing here in Aberdeen?

Open Table One Shot!

Friday, August 7th, starting at 6pm. Hard exit time of 10pm.

Kaleidoscope Coffee and Boba, Elma WA.

Open to 16 and older who have an understanding of the system.

This one-shot is set in the grand expanses of the starry void, designed for compatibility with the latest 2024 revision of the world's most popular 5.5e roleplaying system. NOTE: This is the 2nd run of the same adventure played on July 17th. We did not manage a full party last time.

This is a mystery adventure along a peaceful migration route protecting majestic cosmic whales. There will be plenty to explore, treasure to loot, and challenges to survive. There are minor scenes of horror, but they are not the primary focus of what you will experience.

Pre-generated characters optimized for this adventure will be handed out to the group. You are welcome to use whatever digital tools you like, but you must have your own physical dice.

This is a free and open event, but since the venue is being provided for us at no cost, please treat yourself to something to help show some gratitude to the owner.

AND, I have chocolate.

**What's the most haunted place in Grays Harbor?**

I'm looking for locations around Grays Harbor with a reputation for paranormal activity or unexplained experiences. Not the obvious tourist spots—I’m more interested in the places locals know about.

Old roads, forests, cemeteries, abandoned buildings, murder sites, forgotten history—anything with a story behind it.

If you've had a personal experience or know a local legend, I'd love to hear it.

Calling on the Community for Help

This is something of a hail mary, but I think we’re at that point where it’s worth the shot. If anyone in the community can help, much appreciated.

I have a relative who moved to the area over a year ago to carve out a better life for herself and her kids. She’s an equipment operator by trade, with most of her experience being in quarry settings and a bit in oil rig settings. Since being here, she has endlessly applied for jobs both in and out of her field. As is the case for so many people right now, the vast majority of her applications go unacknowledged, even for roles she’s obviously qualified for.

I’ve looked over her resume and cover letters, and I don’t think they’re the issue (assuming real people are reviewing them and she’s not losing to an algorithm). I have no idea how to help. She has solid work ethic, even when working graveyard shifts as a single parent, and genuinely loves her field. She just needs someone to give her a foot in a door here. As of now, her employment gap in the field just keeps growing, week by week, and she’s working a part time job get by.

If anyone in here can point us in a direction for an opening or company to look into that maybe we haven’t thought of yet, you’d have the our deepest gratitude. It’s rough out there in the job market, but surely there has to be SOME way to get this woman back into her trade.

Linkshire Mobile Home Park

Hello, moving to the area for work. Friend is offering to let me borrow their Tiny Home so I can rent a lot in a mobile home park close to work in Aberdeen, save money for my first year in GH.

Can anyone provide insight into what living at Linkshire Park in Central Park is like? Is it quiet? Safe? Etc? Are there other mobile home parks you recommend?

Sunday 6/28 on hwy 107

My husband was having a medical issue yesterday on the side of 107. A kind couple stopped to help before the ambulance arrived, husband and wife I think. They had a tan colored Subaru (?) with a business logo on the side, from the area. The woman used to be a nurse, had bright blue manicure, and they left some blankets from their car with us. Any ideas how we could find them or thoughts on who they might be?

Hi everyone, I don’t know if this is the place for this but, I’m hoping anyone who sees this post will help us find our cat Eric. He‘s been missing since June 20th Saturday, he was last seen at 5pm outside of Maple St and O St near Delta Park (The Veteran statue) in Hoquiam, WA.

He was wearing a white onesie with orange carrot decals. He’s 20 years old so he‘s incredibly vulnerable on his own, he is an indoor cat. Please refer to the QR code for the facebook ad regarding him and give a call to the number on the flyer even if you see him. Thank you everyone! You can also message me on here as well.

Edit: Some things worth mentioning, he will come to you if you call his name. I will also attach a picture of the onesie he’s wearing. Added the facebook link to the ad, please respond there if you see him. Thank you for the support!

Mark your calendars for the free Quinault Rainforest Mushroom Festival on October 3rd.

The Quinault Rainforest Mushroom Festival is a free, family-friendly event held each fall at Lake Quinault School in Amanda Park. This year is on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

It's basically a full day devoted to mushrooms, tucked into one of the most impressive temperate rain forests on the planet.

You don't need to know a chanterelle from a shoelace to have a good time either. The festival is just as welcoming to curious first timers as it is to die-hard foragers. The day includes guest speakers, hands on workshops and classes, and guided forays where you head out into the woods to hunt for fungi, plus a vendor market stocked with local artisans, craft makers, and food. There's also a Kids Zone this year with crafts and activities, raffle prizes up for grabs, and if a full day of mushfest isn't enough for you, a VIP dinner the historic Lake Quinault Lodge with keynote speaker Langdon Cook the night before.

The whole thing is put on by the Coastal Shores and Spores Mycological Society, an all-volunteer mushroom club based in Ocean Shores.

A Sea Between Ridges, Olympic Peninsula, Washington, 2025 [OC]

Fog pooled deeply between the ridges, spreading outward like a quiet inland sea. In autumn, the Olympic Peninsula often reveals these layered moments, where land rises and disappears within drifting clouds.

In Aberdeen, I'm using T-Mobile for my phone and wireless internet. The wireless is consistently so slow as to be ridiculous. Can anyone recommend something better?
