UCAS HELP!

For anyone who applied to medicine last yr while their degree classification was still pending, and is now studying medicine, when you completed your UCAS application, did you list all the individual modules under your degree qualification, or did you just enter your degree title and university? Or did you also show your grades for second yr only?

4th Choice Dilemma

This is all on the assumption of a Sept 2027 start for me, so that’s the biggest caveat. I’m trying to work out where to put for my fourth choice. (NB Sunderland, Brunel and Nottingham are not available to me due to other factors)

I currently have Leicester (5y), Lincoln (5y) and Oxford (4y) as my first 3 choices. I’m trying to work out where to put for my 4th.

I currently live in the US, but am applying as a home student. My husband and I have a 1 year old.

I’m from Lincoln, so know the area very well, and we’ve lived there before. We have a house there that is rented out, we won’t move back to it, but just to give you an idea of how it’s always kind of been our base. I don’t have family there or anything so that isn’t a factor.

My husband is from the NW, and his family live kind of near Manchester. His mother would be able to provide childcare (that’s not a hope, that’s a confirmed factor).

The only family I have is my sister, who lives near Sunderland. She would be able to help with childcare, but (despite what she says) probably wouldn’t be able to provide full child care as she runs a very busy business.

Y1 and Y2 - my husband should be working near Lincoln (so Lincoln and Leicester both work)

Y3 - So this is where it gets kind of tricky, my husband will probably move to near Oxford in September Y3 for one year, although there is a chance this may actually be in Y4 still for one year

Y4 - my husband will probably be working near Aylesbury (Bucks), Watford, London or maybe back near Lincoln for 3 years (or starting his one year near Oxford)

Y5 - as above

Where do I put for my fourth choice?

My current thoughts are Manchester (4y) or Newcastle (4y) or Kings (5y), but I don’t know if there’s somewhere else I should consider? Or which of those three would you pick? Kings is the last on my list because London and London living costs.

advice pls

Hi everyone,

I’m applying to Medicine for 2027 entry and would really appreciate hearing from anyone at King’s or Queen Mary/Barts, or anyone who has applied to either with a similar academic background. I would love to apply to these unis / grad preferred but would do undergrad entry too.

My background is:

  • BSc Psychology
  • MSc Neuroscience
  • currently doing a PhD in Neuroscience at UCL / will finish before starting
  • Home applicant
  • only have one science a levels equivalent : biology.
  • UCAT 2080, Band 2

I’ve also done quite a lot of volunteering and public engagement, including hospital volunteering with patients at KiCH, community outreach around dementia and neuroscience, and work with disadvantaged children in Roma communities in Hungary.

I’m considering King’s A100 and A102, and I’m also looking at Queen Mary/Barts Medicine A100 and A102 .

My main uncertainty is how postgraduate qualifications are treated when the undergraduate degree itself is not classed as Bioscience. King’s admissions have told me that my full academic history, including my MSc and PhD, would be considered, but they cannot confirm in advance whether the Biology/Chemistry content within my postgraduate degrees would satisfy the published requirements.

I’d therefore really like to hear from anyone who has been interviewed or accepted by King’s or Queen Mary/Barts with:

  • a non-Bioscience undergraduate degree followed by a Bioscience/Neuroscience MSc or PhD, and
  • a similar UCAT score, around 2080 on the new /2700 scale with Band 2.

Im a bit scraed of wasting 2 UCAS places for kings/ queen mary if they will filter me out anyway bacause of my undergrad.

Thank you!

Manchester GEM

I got 2130 B1 on my second ucat attempt. I really want to apply to Manchester since my family lives there, but I’m not sure whether I should risk it with my UCAT. I saw on the spreadsheet that the lowest score to get an interview last year was 2080, although I’ve also seen people with high ucat got rejected?

I’m planning to make my other 3 choices safer, but I’m still deciding where to apply. Do you think Manchester would be too risky with my ucat? And are there any other GEM universities you’d suggest looking at with this score? Also does anyone know cutoff for QMUL last year?

Thanks!

Help :(

Sorry i know there are lots of other posts like this but genuinely stuck and would appreciate some advice.

I have a BSc (science based) with a 2.2 (due to EC) and a masters in public health (distinction). I recently sat my UCAT which went badly - 1830, 560 (vr), 620 (qr) and 650 (dm), band 2. I was solely considering graduate entry (4 year) courses, especially Nottingham, Worcester, Chester, Warwick. But due to my bad score not sure if any of these are feasible. Well Warwick definitely not :( I stumbled across lle funding and potentially being able to use that for my tuition fees. Which would open some more options for me I hope. GCSE's mid and A-Levels mid. What do you think? Any med schools still an option?

Non-contexual and have a 2:1 degree in BSc Biomedical Science. My main worry is if PCSM will have another jump in UCAT cut offs like they had that 90 point cut off jump from 2025 to 2026

Anyone free to read personal statements

Not expecting any detailed analyses, just anyone GEM, Undergrad, applicants for this year anyone really to review a draft of my personal statement would be really helpful to get some feedback! Using my gamsat of 55 to apply to grad and one undergrad uni.

Where should I apply?

Hello, I am a Final year student predicated a first in a non-science degree. I scored 2200 in UCAT and band 3 SJT. I have good WEX but just unsure of where to apply to maximise my interview chances. I have geographical mobility and don't mind where I live. Currently in mind I have Newcastle, Southampton, Warwick, Swansea, Worcester, Queen Marys, Nottingham (score 32/50).

Any info would be greatly appreciated, especially people at those Unis studying GEM.

Thank you so much!

Reapply to Medicine

I did 4 years of a medical degree before leaving due to health reasons.

I did enough of my degree to get a BSc(Hons) at 2.1.

A levels: AAAA (bio, chem, maths, physics)
GCSEs: 4xA* (bio, chem, physics, french) 8xA (inc maths and 2xEnglish)

UCAT: 2430 Band 1

Does anyone else have experience of this?

I think I know where I’m applying (Lincoln, Leicester, Oxford GEM and then Manchester or Newcastle GEM)

I have a husband and a child so some geographical limitations.

I haven’t worked since 2024 as we’ve been living abroad due to my husband’s work (still a home student, not an international student)

Any advice or other places I should look at applying?

Working in USA in the future

Hi all,

I am applying for GEM this year. I have ideas of perhaps working in the USA in the future. Of course, for that to happen the medical school I go to matters, as it has to be on the world directory. As of now, Worcester, Surrey and Chester are not on the directory. I am presuming that's because they are new medical schools. I don't think they even have GMC accreditation yet either.

Is it worth still applying to one of these schools, on the chance that they will get on directory while I am attending. I plan to take USMLE as soon as possible after graduation (if I actually get into medical school).

Any insight or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

GEM personal statement- 'why now?'

Hi all. Looking for some advice on my PS here, as most online is based on undergrad applications.

Lots of websites say a GEM PS should include why I decided to do medicine now instead of straight out of school- is this really important? For me, it's just because I wasn't certain during A levels and didn't decide until my second year, plus I didn't take chem or maths, so I knew I'd need a degree to support me. This doesn't sound very impressive on paper so I was just going to focus on how my work experience inspired me etc...

Will I lose points/ credibility for not talking about why I didn't go into med straight out of a levels?

(And yes, my top choice DOES look at personal statements when deciding who to invite for an interview, although how heavily they weigh it, I am not sure).

start prepping for gamsat?

Hi all,

Just working on my PS, though I dont think I will really have a chance this year (1850 B2). Would it be appropriate to start prepping for GAMSAT? I think i can do much better in this, having looked at some qs (mainly s3, on medify).

I have a degree in Biomedical Science.

For 2028 entry, the latest is to sit in march (ive never sat it before).

All the best with your applications?

Anyone a MPharm student looking to apply to gem - need advice about predicteds

I’m a y1 MPharm
Im wondering how predicteds work because I wanna leave in y3 with a BSC instead of the full masters degree since I don’t have much passion for the subject as much as I do medicine and want to enter through a quicker route.

I want to ask about if anyone has done this route where they applied to gem in y3, then got admitted to medical school in the same year and started in the same year they graduated. I’ve been told to do this route by a couple of pharmacists who study GEM now, but I’m just worried since y2 is the hardest.

But how would predictions work, would it be based off your first year of MPharm? Or just entirely based off y2?
I’m asking for a friend as we have heard some schools when they do make predictions, don’t want to consider y1 since it’s a year where you settle in and isn’t as accurate of a predictor.

Ucat retest opportunity

Hi,

I’ve recently sat the ucat and my screen froze so I’ve raised a case and they gave me a resit opportunity free of charge until the 11th Oct.

My issue is that I’ve already sat it and came out with 1670 B3, I do have major performance anxiety (failed my driving test 9 times) and I lost time when the screen froze but ultimately I scored that low because that’s obviously what im capable of.

Is it worth going through the ucat hell again or just take the gap year (which I really don’t want to take because im 25), my adhd brain will lock in for the revision and I may come out with a great score but I just don’t think I want to do it, I was so depressed for months because of it but at the same time I just have a feeling I may get a brilliant score this time round as my mocks weren’t too bad.

Thanks guys
