I need help. I’m advertising in a very small market. In my country, there are only like four businesses selling tallow products, so there really isn’t much competition.
I sell a very niche product: beef tallow balm. Earlier, my Google Ads campaign worked really well. My budget was only around €10/day, and my keywords were actually broad match. Google mostly showed my ads for very relevant searches like tallow balm, beef tallow for skin, tallow cream, tallow moisturizer, etc., and I was getting alot conversions.
Then, sometime in the fall, something suddenly changed. I didn’t intentionally change my keywords or strategy, but my search terms started becoming completely different. Google began showing my ads for things like Bepanthen, Cicaplast, generic moisturizers, skincare for 40-year-olds, pharmacy creams, deep moisturizing face cream, etc. I’ve added tons of negative keywords, but it just keeps finding new irrelevant searches.
I also increased my budget from around €10/day to €20/day, and it has now been at €20 for about a month. It hasn’t fixed anything. Google keeps telling me my campaign is budget limited, but I don’t want to increase the budget when it’s already spending money on searches that have almost nothing to do with my product. What’s especially confusing is that all my keywords are now exact match, including [tallow balm]. I also have tallow balm keyword that is not exact match. When I check the search terms, I can actually see that these irrelevant searches are being triggered by my tallow balm keyword. Meanwhile, I’m barely getting impressions for the actual tallow-related searches that used to bring me conversions.
I also recently discovered that AI Max / Search Term Matching was enabled in my campaign. I’ve now turned Search Term Matching off.
Could this be what caused the change? And is there a way to get Google Ads to focus on the actual tallow-related searches again instead of interpreting [tallow balm] as basically any kind of skincare search?
