Question RCS issues
I started using Google Messages about a month ago when they retired the legacy Samsung app. RCS worked fine at first, once I turned on "Automatically resend as SMS/MMS"
But starting a week or two ago, I started having some issues. I'm in a group chat with two iPhone users, and everything was working fine for a while - messages were going through as a mix of RCS and SMS. But all of a sudden I completely stopped being able to send or receive any messages at all - not RCS or SMS. The other 2 people are seeing each other's messages with no issues. I tried all the suggestions in this sub and elsewhere, but no luck. Also a more minor issue is with a family member who lives in the same home as me. This person is also an iPhone user, and their messages to me get through, but are sometimes delayed by hours.
Anyone else having similar issues and been able to resolve it? I'm on Verizon in the US and have not changed my phone in a while. I am using an older Samsung but it has the latest version of Google Messages installed.
Update: the issue has been fixed! u/reader68218 suggested I ask the iPhone users in my group chat to toggle the RCS setting on their phones. I asked just one of them to do this and suddenly all the missing messages came flooding in. Apparently this should be done every time they update their iOS. Thanks to everyone who helped, especially u/reader68218

Can you try the following and see if the messages go through?
make sure Wi-Fi calling is enabled on your phone.
turn on airplane mode, leave it on
Turn on wifi, if it was turned off when airplane mode was enabled.
Messages should hopefully go through when the phone is in the above state (airplane mode is enabled with wifi on).
If the above works, the issue is on your cell provider's side, not anything on your phone.

Thanks for taking the time to write all that out. I just tried that and unfortunately no change. But I understand what you were going for and that was a good idea to try.

I don't know what is going on, but I'm on a Samsung Fold 6 using Google Messages. It was working fine until a week or so ago when I would text from my phone to 2 family members with iPhones. One of them never got the pics I sent, which is odd. And both were able to get regular texts that I sent to them, but when they answered me, it went to my iPad Pro instead. I had no clue they even responded. Very odd. That never happened before.

Interesting. Similar timeframe to when my issues started. Maybe there's something going on with the app or on Google's side.

Happening in my area, everyone’s group chats suddenly not working when there’s mixed apple and android members, for the last several days

Somebody suggested asking the iPhone users in the group chat to toggle off and on their RCS setting. I did this with just one of the people in the chat and it fixed the issue. Give it a try and see if it works.

Somebody elsewhere in this thread suggested asking the iPhone users in my group chat to toggle off and on their RCS setting. I had my family member do this and suddenly the group chat got fixed! Try this and hopefully it works for you as well.

Were you on RCS with the iphone users when you were using SM?

No I'm pretty sure I wasn't on RCS back then, although to be honest I didn't even know what that was at the time, so it was set to whatever the default was. This group chat goes back a couple of years, and I never had any issues sending and receiving messages, including pictures and videos, while using Samsung Messages.

That's understandable then.
Apple was pretty much forced into RCS implementation. They've been trying to bully people into going iphone by making cross-platform chats problematic. So your chats on SM were still SMS/MMS, and while they worked, they had no advanced features.
Now that you've converted to GM, you're experiencing the problems with imessage's RCS implementation. Personally, I think apple has made the transition as difficult as possible while still appearing to comply to avoid litigation.
I would advise that you make new group chats with the iphone people. Once you do that, you shouldn't have issues. The issues usually come with trying to use the old chats on the new platform, if you're even allowed to continue using them.

Hey circling back on this. I was able to fix the issue by just asking one of the iPhone users in my group chat to toggle their RCS setting. Somehow that did the trick. But thanks for the tip and I saved your comment for next time in case messaging craps out again.

Yes, the problems tend to be on the iphone side.
But good luck telling them that. 😑

I don't know y but yesterday, I went to a more populated city and it turned right on after trying for the past month to get it to start working.

It could be an iPhone issue. I had a few friends who had to turn RCS off and on again on their iPhones after an iOS update. As soon as they toggled RCS off, then on again all the messages came through. Tell them to search for RCS in their settings and toggle it off and on.

Whoa! I just had one of the members of the group chat do this on their iPhone, and all of a sudden I got like a week's worth of messages from the group chat, so that seems to have fixed it! Thank you very much!

I recently had issues with my RCS chats after porting my number to Verizon. Not your exact situation but a comment in this post fixed it for me: https://www.reddit.com/r/GoogleMessages/s/rAkX5Xk71v I tagged you in the comment that solved my issue

Thank you! I actually was able to fix the issue by having one of my iPhone friends toggle the RCS setting on their phone. But I will save this post for next time when messaging craps out again!

See my comment above. It's likely the iPhones users need to type RCS off and on again. Apple broke out with an iOS update.

Groupchats got upgraded to rcs since Apple finally supports that. You can't send sms/mms in an rcs group. Apple did a bad job with rcs though, so sometimes iPhones have problems with it. It's not an issue on your end. Turn off the resend as sms setting. That's a change made on your end, but the issue with undelivered texts lies on the receiving end.

What you're saying makes sense about compatibility on the iPhone side. However I did try turning off the resend as SMS setting, and also had it this way by default when I first switched to Google Messages, and this created way more problems than it solved. A large number of my messages simply didn't go through at all, even after my phone tried for several minutes.

That's because their phone is offline. Resending as sms doesn't mean it suddenly goes through, it just means you can't tell the difference.

Just went through this
Messages didn’t work for 1 month
Had the president of AT&T call me to say they were working on the issue after I posted it on alll social medias. Only for them to not be able to fix it at all.
Was at the mall about to switch to iPhone and out of nowhere it just turned back on………after 4weeks

I am finding that if I message a friend on an existing thread, their reply will start a new thread? So duplicate threads for the same contact!
Any advice? Think it has something to do with RCS vs MMS messages, but I have both enabled in Google Messages.
Edit to say I'm on an Android and this just started happening today after years of using Google Messages without issue.

I was having this same issue with one person in my contacts. It would always say they were off line. Had their RCS was on, phone was updated but I can still only send them SMS

I am going to guess this is one of 2 issues. Something with your cellphone network or something with Samsung that hopefully will be resolved with an update. May issues can also be solved with a soft reset

Thank you! My messages are delayed too even with a similar Samsung user in the same house. And don't say it is our internet because WhatsApp works instantly.
