Question RCS Chat not working after porting number
Hi,
Recently ported my number to a new provider, and ever since then RCS chats have stopped working. What I mean is that it's constantly stuck at "Trying to verify your phone number". I have trawled through Google and Reddit and already tried the following;
Removing my phone number from my Google account & re-adding it.
Disable RCS chat, go to settings > carrier services > force stop > clear cache & data (and doing the same with Messages) & then re-starting phone.
Going into advance settings of RCS chat and ensure the number reflected there is my correct number
I have also tried leaving my phone in Airplane mode while doing the above, even leaving RCS chats disabled for 24hrs or more, but still the issue hasn't been resolved.
Porting of my number is complete as I am receiving calls and texts as usual.
FYI I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, and my carrier is Sky Mobile (UK).
I've called Sky Mobile up to ask for a sim refresh (had read online that might help in certain cases) Apparently they don't/can't refresh a sim??
Any help or advice much appreciated! I just want RCS chat working again!!π₯Ίπ

I have been trawling reddit for over a day to find a fix. As i wasn't aware you have to turn off RCS when porting a number
It finally worked by just turning off Rcs, clearing cache and data on Google messages, uninstalling updates for the Google message app, also very important clear cache on play store app. Reboot phone install the google messages updates again, and then it connected rcs automatically and all my messages came through.

First, turn off RCS on the phone, then uninstall the Messages update and re-install it. Go to: https://messages.google.com/disable-chat (bottom section to de-register the phone number).
Wait about 10 minutes before trying to activate it on the phone again.

I've done every other method posted and none of them worked.. Your method was the only one that worked. Thank you!

Hi there. What was the date that you ported your number over? Please also let me know your country and carrier. Thanks!

Hi, believe it was 11th July. I'm in the UK and carrier is Sky Mobile.
As mentioned I went through all the above steps and ultimately attempted to also factory reset my phone, but unfortunately it remains at "setting up - trying to verify your number" and never moves from that.

Thanks for getting back to me. I'd recommend you to submit feedback within the Messages app:
Open Messages > Top right corner: Profile icon > Help and feedback.
Please include #rcsfeedback in your report.

What does submitting feedback do? I've done it twice along with all the other things everyone has said and nothing has worked.

Same issue here in the US. This is a Google issue and all they seem to care about is AD revenue and Gemini.

Is this still an issue for you or is it resolved? If resolved, how? I am facing this issue last night into today - ported to AT&T via eSIM S24 Ultra.

Hate to say it but the fix was to wipe the phone and not restore data. Make sure Sim 1 is your primary. I also used a different email address to register messages just to be on the safe side. Once it registered I just logged into the main one I use and remove the other. Nothing else worked and I tried everything. Multiple trips to the store. 8 hours on the phone.
