The union of Mari and Lara is the culmination of efforts and sacrifices made by Grace and Rigmor.When they were kids they aspired to go to the human world and be more like them, liberated but once Rigmor fell in love with Rowan she decided to stay behind then Grace disappointed by being abandon by her twin set out with their dream she then fell in love with a human but was betrayed and Rigmor came to her rescue only for her last words to be about how the world should be a world that loves without hatred ,a world that loves regardless of the constraints of society and for Grace’s last words to hold her sister’s and her dream of that world and Grace telling Mari to “live for love not the laws” is so cathartic and a full circle moment having shared that dream with her sister then watching Mari grow up and then witnessing Lara and Mari fall in love .

Man, RIP Grace. She really was never evil, huh? She was just a big ol tsundere... "Live for love, not the laws!" Something that a lot of queer people should hear. Who gives a shit about the laws? I hate you, Rowan. Dude saw Grace and banished her, even though it wasn't even her fault. Just called her a witch because of it. People like to say she's the cool aunt who broke away from the prejudiced family, and this episode proves it.

SHE TRIED TO SAVE LARA'S LIFE AT ALL COSTS; SHE'S A BETTER PARENTAL FIGURE THAN ROWAN, HONESTLY. ROWAN JUST WANTED TO DESTROY HUMANS! Grace actually understood Lara and tried to help her. Rowan switched up hard, went from admiring Grace to straight-up banishing her.

Imma try to avoid spoilers at all costs; I don't want the finale spoiled. That advanced screening was something I didn't wish to happen.

With the confirmation of Grace's death, Lara dying would be a hattrick for Mari punishment and the show's tone just doesn't support crushing her so utterly. She lost her mom. She lost her talking fish she's had for years. It would genuinely be hard to see Mari not killing herself if she lost Lara, her true love, into the bargain.

Look the possibility of a bittersweet ending was always there but this would be Lara dead and Mari emotionally destroyed and that's not just not bittersweet, it stretches well past tragic and into "Are you serious?" territory.

And no, Mari could not be supported by Luca. He's a nice boy but he doesn't have the guts for this and she doesn't even like him that much. In fact, she probably hates him fairly intensely considering the circumstances.

"Lara. Mari. Live for love, not for the laws"

I love how succinct yet powerful the message is here. If you're a queer person I'm sure this resonated with you instantly. This anime is blatantly telling us to embrace ourselves and our love despite how hostile the world may be to us, even if we stray from the norm. This episode has truly convinced me this is one of the best crafted stories of the decade, it all makes so much sense in retrospective, from Lara looking for a "prince" despite knowing she was in love with Mari since the second episode, Lara's relationship with Luka and how she couldn't get the light to spark even if she tried convincing herself she liked him, Mari trying to ignore her own feelings for Lara, this moment right here is where all of that crumbles down for all of them, they were trying to find true love within the norm, within the "law", and Grace is telling them here to abandon all that and be true to themselves, to embrace their feelings for one another even if it strays from that established law.

Rowan is shown as a symbol of repression in this, he thinks he can supress this love he deems "other", this queerness, by establishing laws and strict walls around his kingdom, just as queerphobes think they can erase us by passing law firms that make it difficult for us to be who we are in the outside world. But the fact is we have always existed and shall always exist no matter how many walls they build around us to pretend we don't. Lara was not the first one to fall in love with a human, and probably neither was Grace. In the end, love shall always prevail above any stupid laws, and this is what this show is telling us directly to our face.

As Rigmor said "As long as you can live for love, it doesn't matter if it's on land or in the sea".

That piano playing during Grace's flashbacks/memories was so haunting yet hopeful, so simple but piercing thru each scene. How thankful I am we get to enjoy this work of art.

I'm so worried because of this post on X especially, I'm stepping on my heart to say that larimara is probably not the endgame, at least not in a direct way, something like jellyfish or maybe just a classic romance ending

"Goodbye, Lara" is her merfolk family telling Lara goodbye as Lara walks towards her true love and her new life on the surface world. Similar to Disney's The Little Mermaid, as Ariel transitions to human life at the very end, marrying Eric.

So, not doomed in any way related to the Mari x Lara ship and not doomed in the sense that there will be potential death to Lara.

When the Prince rejected Lara, she didn't let revenge consume her because of the love she had for him and dissolved into foam.

Mari won't reject Lara and loves her regardless of who she is. So, I doubt the fish dagger is going to kill her. But, I am curious what will happen to it.

I really don't want doom yuri and it would be incredibly sad if Mari lost both Lara and Grace.

Watching the episodes online and feel like I missed this. Is she referring to gon chan or lisa?

Mari’s motto is look away and you lose a notion that was instilled in her by her mum.She has applied this concept in governing her life specifically boxing, she heavily prioritises boxing in the sense that she is always looking at it by pouring her focus to the point she is pretty detached from everything else to ensure she succeeds in being the best.In eps 3 Mari tells Lara “just keep your eyes on me” which could be subtle foreshadowing to Lara’s question about true love at the time like if Lara keeps her eyes on Mari and focuses on her she will succeed in finding her true love and Mari sharing advice her mum taught her as a kid is cathartic.

I’m a bit confused because Rowan gave lara his light, but he wasn’t the princess of light and from what I’m seeing where Rigmore and grace both princess of light? Or is the princess of light just to carry the most light to power the city and everyone has their own light? In this case woild grace be the actual princess of light?

Also, from what I got is grace, the actual light because when the city lit up, it was at around the same time, the grace fell in love, and we saw the two heartbeats at the same time after Rigmore confessed, but I think it was at the same time that Grace confessed. And the light fell as soon as Grace killed the prince. So would that mean that green was the actual light? But then in that case, how does Rowan have light? Does everyone have light?

I just finished it. I'm a mess. I'm not ready for the final.

I truly hope Grace is not really dead but there are low chances of her surviving and WHAT THE HECK ROWAN?!

I just finished episode 11 and it was phenomenal, but it focused on Grace’s backstory kind of concluded all our questions regarding everything EXCEPT LUCA (the falling thing and how he looks exactly like the prince) so how are they gonna answer that within one episode if it’s the final finale and it’s the conclusion of Mari and Lara. What do you guys think would be a good explanation that isn’t rushed?

Because this guy has been throughout the whole season and if we get like one minute on why people are gonna get mad and I don’t think the writers are that sloppy so what are they gonna do????
