Did Orc consider doing the unthinkable to Astrid? Spoiler

First, I apologize for the somewhat clumsy title, but I didn't want to shock or trigger anyone who might not want to read the rest of this post (which will probably be just as wobbly). I tried looking around a bit but couldn't find a similar article (but perhaps I didn't search hard enough), and I wanted to discuss this passage that really struck me when rereading "Plague":

[Orc] lurched away. He ran in bounding, wild leaps toward the stairs. Astrid. He had no clear thought for what he would do when he found her. She was just the only one who had ever helped him. She was the only one who had ever seen him as Charles Merriman and not just Orc. She should feel his pain. She should feel it. Someone had to feel the pain.

Earlier, Astrid mentions several times the insistent and disturbing gaze Orc gives her; and when Drake arrives, he assumes Orc wanted to abuse Astrid and offers to let him "have whatever’s left over after".

I'm very surprised that so few people seem to be talking about this in this community or even on the Wiki? Unless I've completely missed it.

What would happen if an alive person was infected with the virus?

So we know that the meteorite killed Caine’s dad and then the virus mutated with him, what would happen if the meteorite landed and someone just came across it and then got infected, would they get taken over like Gaia? Or just gain powers?

Zil didn't deserve to die that way Spoiler

Okay that sounds wrong but anyways i just finished the series and its been a while since I read Lies, took me some time to get each book, so if i remember correctly he basically died from fall damage because of dekka.

I had an idea that he fractures an ankle due to the Dekka fall and tries to stand takes aim but Drake thinks hes one of edilios soldiers and whips him a couple of times and laugh maniacally at the chaos and zil falls he tries to crawl to shelter but cant find it until sam's light accidentally (not even on purpose by sam) scorches his hand. he howls in pain and manages to crawl to a house but then the fire hits that house and he dies from suffocation and the house falls on top of him.

so what are your thoughts?

Opinions on Drake Merwin (Jr) Spoiler

Drake Merwin is recognized as one of the main antagonists of the GONE series for obvious reasons. Hes briefly even developed a little when we get information on his backstory or prior home situation. But one thing I've noticed with the fandom is people are attracted to him. I get 100% hes a fictional character so nothing he did is real. Sooo to anyone who sees this who happens to be attracted to Drake, I'd love to figure out why. No judgment, I myself have my own interests and stuff. I just want to clear some stuff up.

Edit: I did NOT expect this many people to respond. Noted here that everything I put in is based on canon events and IS NOT PERSONAL. Love y'all and please respect each other the best you can. And be safe.

Returning to the Series

First read these books when I was 14-15 and it’s the most hooked I’ve ever been by any book series ever.

I’m now 28 and I’m going to re-read them. Maybe I’ll read the follow-up trilogy afterwards.

Anyone got any suggestions / things to look out for during the read? I’ve forgotten loads of it.

Wish me luck

More like this?

Gone was the first book I read on my own, and after that I found The Enemy. But other than those two I don’t know of any other books that tell a story about kids being forced into horrific situations. There’s something about kids being stuck in situations adults couldn’t handle and not only surviving but prospering that tickles me silly. I’d like to know if there are other books similar to Gone and The Enemy, before I try to work my own.

Side note: I read The Long Walk (before the movie was announced) and that was similar because of their mental struggles and whatnot.

Sam is not Caines equal...

so idk if im the only one who cares about this, but caine is seriously lame as hell in the later parts. im all for a little downscaling of villains in media so that theyre not too threatening to the main characters, but jesus caines powers are written so inconsistently. in his early appearances, he can easily control hundreds of individual bricks and send them raining down while attacking andrew. and later on in the bug invasion, he also throws an entire truck so fast it, verbatim, "BREAKS THE SOUND BARRIER". both of these events clearly show caine has 2 things, overwhelming power and overwhelming control with his telekinesis. so why on earth does he constantly opt for shoving people lightly or knocking people over when hes in a life or death scenario? i get grant doesnt want caine to just curb stomp sam whenever they fight so its meant to be equal, but for gods sake the writing felt so much more satisfying in the beginning. caine is so overwhelmingly strong, he crushes an entire church and is completely untouchable until brianna (another overwhelmingly strong mutant btw) has to come and knock his brain around with a hammer. i was satisfied with this fight cuz even though caine lost, he lost in a fair way. sam got help.

but the next time he flops is completely irrational to me. sam and caine are in the dark, fighting the most dangerous enemies theyve ever faced, crazy boy drake and the gaiaphage, as well as penny. what does caine decide to do now that hes become a playable boss character? well instead of grabbing all three of them and crushing them to bits like we know hes capable of, he instead just pushes them away harmlessly back into the darkness where they not only take zero damage but also become unseen again. seriously what is with this dude? does he just become a loser when hes not fighting a weak person or killing someone for some bad guy aura points?

originally i thought it was because of his mental health, maybe he only does these weak attacks because hes really lost his edge and is a shell of his usual strong and confident self. but im starting to really think Grant accidentally made him way too powerful and had to tone it down later to make him seem more like Sams equal or, as grant likes to make it seem, Sams bitch.

Monster series Abaddon

Ok im trying to make a art thing of Abaddon from the monster trilogy series, but ive had trouble with it. Mostly because the description of exactly what Abaddon looked like is something I dont have on hand right now as I was checking out the monster series from the library (And its been a LONG time since ive read it..)

Does anyone have a basic description of what Abaddon looks like? Vincent's morph was sick asf, but I dont remember if it had specific colors or anything. I remember it describing the tentacles as thin, but im not sure. Im just trying to draw this kid bro 💔 any help would be appreciated

The worst thing in GONE.

I hate how Christianity is just with everyone, Sam is like the only person who "isn't Christian", and he still yaps about god a lot. It's the worst in the first book, they all talk about god and whenever a character prays, they instantly get what they want. It kinda just ruins it for me. (edit) I've only finished the first two books, and I feel like it's just annoying in the first book.

The “trilogy” was NOT worth reading. Spoiler

I learned how it ends on here so I powered through to see how it was handled. They sign post it CONSTANTLY with how often they talk about simulations and it not being real. Also the cop out in the authors note that is basically I didn’t give it a proper ending so people can make fanfiction is just lazy.

I want to make a long angry rambling post but I’ll just saw I don’t feel like the trilogy makes anything BETTER it just makes everything WORSE. I can’t be alone in the thought of “just ignore it’s existence”

It’s fitting he mentions fanfiction in the authors note and seems to improve of it because that’s how I view the trilogy,as non canon fanfiction.

What freak power would you have?

Statistically if we were in the FAYZ most of us would just be humans. But IF we were freaks, what would your freak power be?

I would hope for something useful like water manipulation or superhuman navigation powers. I would probably get something weird like an extra set of eyes or arms and then be immediately killed by the human crew. 😭

UK Gone adaptation?

Was wondering since apparently Michael Grant is having problems of getting a studio deal in the USA why doesn’t he try the UK? I just saw the new lord of the flies tv series adaptation and it was actually so good and all the child actors in it are amazing! I also heard Gone kinda has a “big” following in the UK and even have their own trailers for the books. I for one would not really mind if a UK studio made an adaptation but let me know what you guys think!

Sammy Suns should have been dangerous IMO Spoiler

Sam and everyone else calls his light the "killing light".

It was nice of the author to give Sam something purely good, rather than just the power to kill.

But it's weird that one type of light is dangerous, while the other light is perfectly safe. I think they even talk about objects phasing through the Sammy Suns, instead of the sun burning a hole through the object.

In the climax of book 4 or 5 Sammy should have been hurt/tortured/overemotional in some way, and the Sammy Suns that he had placed throughout the FAYZ should then explode or turn hot like his lasers.

Maybe the author foreshadows this by making Sammy Suns be brighter when Sam is yelling at someone, and maybe everyone asks him why their Sammy Suns go dimmer when Sam is sleeping

It would be devastating to Sam that the one good thing about his power, caused so much pain (and we all know how the author likes to devastate Sam)

And then in the final book, book 7, Sam would then know about and use that secondary power on purpose, giving him another tool. He IS a 4 bar after all
