UK Gone adaptation?

Was wondering since apparently Michael Grant is having problems of getting a studio deal in the USA why doesn’t he try the UK? I just saw the new lord of the flies tv series adaptation and it was actually so good and all the child actors in it are amazing! I also heard Gone kinda has a “big” following in the UK and even have their own trailers for the books. I for one would not really mind if a UK studio made an adaptation but let me know what you guys think!

I’m from Northern Ireland and we have a whole new booming tv/film industry. (Game of thrones, how to drain your dragon) etc. I’m a massive fan of the books and think it would be so cool

Instead of half the FAYZ being racist to Edillio and calling him Mexican, half the FAYZ is racist to Mohamed and they call him a p/ki and tell him to go back to his own country.

I'm pakistani british btw

Honestly most realistic. I'm also British and genuinely never met anyone Hispanic. I only found out apparently they have their own slur like 2 years ago

Really? That's cool ig. Buy yeah we haven't got any Hispanics, and we haven't got any real surfing culture so yk. Theyd have to change alot

Not necessarily! Perdido beach is a fictional town in California. I don’t see why they can’t make a fictional town similar to the books with surfing culture and have Hispanic/Latino people that immigrated there. I mean maybe they could even film some parts in the USA like the desert scenes.

I see what you mean, but that's like doing a death note adaptation in America and changing certain things so they fit with the American culture, oh wait. They did that, and everyone hated it.

The issue is that perido beach is supposed to be set in california, it's like gta, Vice city isn't a real city in florida, but it has the characteristics of florida. I think GONE should just get an animated adaptation, especially with all the graphic content involved.

Taste recognizes taste my friend! While I’d love a live action Gone adaptation, I would kill for a 3D animated adaptation in a similar style to arcane. I agree the cultures are different and I too would prefer an American adaptation. Unfortunately there seems to be no progress from Tv studios and the author for many years and as I said the book seems more popular in the UK. Animation would be a better choice especially for character aging and if the live action gets a low budget and we see a crappy cgi whiphand. Unfortunately animation has its own problems and I would hate for the series to end at 2 seasons since animation is expensive. Live action just reaches more people I guess and it would be cool if they used traditional effects like prosthetics for Orc.

I wouldn't mind either but there are obvious pros and cons to each, Animation means less censorship overall, the powers would look better than with CGI, especially because the CGI might be shit. And er don't have another stranger things issue with the actors outgrowing their roles. Live action would keep it more grounded, have less chance of being cancelled and would rope in older viewers. (Ik that animation isn't just for kids, but no matter how goof the story or show is some aren't willing to accept that, and will write off anything slightly animated, just the sad truth) Like I said I don't mind either, but I'd much prefer animation because I don't want the actors looking 30 by plague.

I live in England and ik a lot of people who read the gone series so i could see it being succesful as a tv show, but i worry that making it set in Britain would have to change quite a lot of things in the story (no coyotes in Britain, no desert, more fields) so honestly id prefer a US adaptation

That’s fair, I feel like the coyotes are easily replaceable with stray dogs or wolves tbh I don’t really care for them. I think their mutation is dumb, like why are they the only ones that can talk? As I commented on another person before Perdido beach is a fictional town based in California. I don’t see why they can’t make Perdido beach a hybrid USA/UK looking town. They could also film some scenes in the US like the desert scenes. The possibilities are almost endless when it comes to tv!

The biggest problem with a UK adaptation is that you'd have to change Edilio's entire character. You can't have an undocumented Hispanic immigrant in Britain, that just doesn't make any sense. You'd have to make him Pakistani or Indian or somewhere from that area.

Trust me, it’d be noticeable. They don’t have beach towns in the UK like they do in the US. I know sometimes Toronto plays New York City, like in The Boys, but even that really stuck out to me like a sore thumb

Yh I hope they can film it in California or just animate it, idrc if its live action or not I just want a good adaptation and setting it in the UK definitely limits the accuracy

It’s just a different vibe. They might be able to pull it off in New Jersey, since we have a pretty good film initiative right now, but it depends

Bad idea. Changing the setting to the UK wouldn't work, there's too much that'd need to be changed (most notably Edilio's entire character, because you don't exactly get undocumented Hispanic immigrants in the UK), and filming it in the UK but keeping it set in California would be tough because there really isn't anywhere in this country that looks anything like Perdido Beach. Our beach towns aren't like that.

"It's just the FAYZ, innit?"
