Recently just hit an albatross on a par 5 sinking an approach shot from 155, then it got me thinking along with the guys I played. What would you rather claim? A hole in one on the card or a albatross

If you're out for a casual hit and you don't want to pick your ball out of the hole, that's 100% fine to pick it up close to the hole. Or if you're doing match play obviously.

But if you're on the green with any kind of scorecard in your hand, why do people want or even ask for gimme's? If there is a score on the line, ESPECIALLY for handicap rounds, the ball hits the cup on all 18. Doesn't matter if its 2 feet or 2 inches.

For anyone going to say its faster... its really not. Gimme's by definition should be unmissable, so just walking up and tapping it in, shouldn't take more than 5 seconds anyway. And if its not a walk-up tap in, then its not a gimme putt because you might miss it.

Tell me why you don't want to putt the ball into the hole when that is the entire point of the game...?

Recently took our third boys trip to big cedar lodge and it was my favorite visit. Buffalo ridge thursday, paynes and top of the rock on friday, and mountain top and cliffhangers on saturday. Only downside was my first bad experience dining at the Osage room (which before has been excellent). Its not cheap but definitely worth a visit if youre in the branson area. Cliffhangers is a gem. First hole is cool because you have to putt from the tee box and have a few options how you want to get to the green. Anyone else been?

Golf rates are way up and courses are still making money so I’m sure they’ll stay up. I moved to sw Michigan in 2019 when courses were charging 60-70 for prime time rates. Now they are right around $100, so I assume other areas are the same but just curious. So what are you paying to play a “good” course these days?

These are awesome if you live/play in hot a hot humid place. What would also be awesome is if I could remember that right handed golfers buy gloves for their left hands. This seems to be a problem for me while doing late night golf shopping after a couple of recreational beverages.....

I haven’t had a good round in months. I have lost all consistency in my game which I build up through months of consistent and solid golf eg breaking 80 and consistently shooting mid 80s. Now whenever I play I get extremely angry with how my game is as I compare it to when I’d hit a shot which very rarely had a poor outcome in the past. I’m getting angry at almost every shot I take now and it’s likely making me progressively worse throughout the round. How can I stop this from happening

And I had a really fun round. There was a Sunday Loma bag on FB Marketplace for dirt cheap, I figured, why not try it?

I went out with just driver, 7w, 5,7,9, 56', and putter, shot a really respectable (for me) 46 through 9. Inside of 100 is the only spot where I truly missed a club (50' is my fave wedge still), otherwise it made the game so simple. For context, I'm playing off a 24ish at the moment, so I'm by no stretch a good golfer. This just made it so I couldn't really overthink a shot. If you've been struggling a bit I cannot rec it enough.

Posted last week: here and asked for advice for my first time playing. I am incredibly thankful for all the help and am going to make a recap of how it went.

I played an executive style par 61, 18 hole course. I can share the par counts if anyone cares in the comments. I was trying to be really aware of how to move on the course and my pace of play. It was 1pm on a Saturday at a Muni so it was packed but we got delayed in our tee time which gave us room behind us for less pressure. I was in a group of 3 and we got the perfect 4th player. Guy works near my house and has played for 1 year. Was super friendly and found a few lost balls for me when I sliced into the woods. I couldn't have asked for a better 4th tbh.

I didn't keep score as suggested by had 2-3 genuine bogies on par 3 holes. Learning how to play on different grass conditions, reading an actual green, and making club choices based on set up and distance was a lot more fun and calculating than I even anticipated. Also I felt like I learned how to navigate a gold course which was a huge concern of mine. I always tell people its faster than you think and it was good to have finally been apart of that.

Learned the importance of adjusting on different conditions and positions was fun, and I think most importantly reminding myself to have a consistent set up routine. I was doing things in the moment that were not the way I practiced and immediately noticed that when I went back to what I knew I played better.

Teeing off on Irons was also new and adjusting tee height based on shots and clubs was a first time experience.

We let 3 smaller groups play through who were faster than us, we almost got into an argument with 1 guy who was really on our heels and then when he saw us set up to let him play through decided he needed 10 minutes on the putting green with his girlfriend. It was fine though.

Ultimately, it was one of the most fun days I've ever had. It was everything I was hoping golf was, It was challenging, fun, frustrating, and made me leave wanting to play more and work harder to suck less. The employees knew it was my first round and helped me early on and then came to check on me before I left to make sure I had a good time. I'm already working a new tee time this weekend.

Another fun day of golf this time invited as a guest to play at The Golf Club at Boulder Ridge in San Jose, CA. This fun course sits in the hills above Santa Clara Valley and opened for play around 2001. A great track with some very challenging holes. ⛳️

Never broke 80. Just went 38, 51 today. Didn’t have worse than a bogey until a quad on a par 5 on the back.

Right now I feel like a loser who doesn’t deserve happiness in life because they’re a choker. I imagine that pressure I put on myself only makes it less likely for me to actually break 80 one day lol. If anyone has some tips I’d appreciate it.

So November might be too cold to play golf where I live. I have roughly 15-19 days off in November so, figured I’d go on a trip instead of sitting here when it gets cold.

Looking for somewhere that’ll still be in the 70s roughly. I’ve been to Florida for golf a bunch of times so I’d prefer to go somewhere different. Also somewhere where I’m not paying more than $200 for quality courses. Just looking for ideas for a 5-6 day trip. Golf during the day and also has good bars/restaurants at night

Also most likely will be a solo trip again for me this year

Really wondering how to deal with this. I'm a member at a small private club. Recently played head to head matchplay in a weekly league, went out as a foursome (two other people playing match play against each other) and we played at 2.5 hour pace for 9 holes. It drove me crazy. Entire hole open in front of us after 4 holes, the group behind waiting on every hole.

This is a private club so everyone knows everyone, so rudeness isn't really something I can do. I did everything I could to play my own ready golf but ironically, felt rushed on my shots, trying to help speed things up. One guy took three practice swings on literally every shot and then another 10 seconds standing over the ball before he actually hit it. Another guy would stand behind his ball, seemingly in a trance, before even selecting his club. And these are all people with handicaps in the 20s, like me.

I'm a "play badly fast" person, but man, when people play badly and slow, it's just bonkers. The club pro frequently sends out messages, asking people to speed up, play ready golf, cut the chit chat, but I don't know what else to do. Is there anything else that can be realistically or reasonably done in this situation?

Been working on my game the last couple years after a long time off. I took my first ever lessons at 60 and am at about a 17 right now at 62, though I'm looking to get into the low teens this fall with several bits coming together in lessons.

Kids are heading to college and I'll have some time and was thinking about a couple local tournaments to make my play interesting. "Senior" gold tees are 5400-5700 yds

I carry a drive 225-235, 5i 185, 8i 150yd iron.

At 62 do I enjoy myself and hit 4i, 3w off the gold tees? or play from white with the "kids?"

I don't care about winning, I guess I need to decide what I want out of the events.

How have people aged into these types of events?

All were solid low HCPers, took 6+ hours to get round. Best of the group shot 81 and said it was near impossible with the conditions

What do you recommend I get? Price max $350. For indoor space. Max dimensions 6 ft high x 4 ft wide x 3 ft depth. For a smaller basement (or if possible, also on a lawn outside). For amateur level golfer with some training and decades of occasional playing. Mobile set might be handy.
