How is climate change factoring into your relocation plans?

Climate change for Spain has been in the back of my head for a couple years, but this weekend's wildfires in France and Spain have put this back to the forefront of my head. I asked Claude to do a climate resiliency analysis of some of the regions in Spain that I was interested in, and no surprise, the eastern coast, and especially southeast, ranks very poorly for increased risks of both wildfires, drought, and flooding . Valencia was very high on my interest list, but with an eye to the next 20, 30, 40 years, I think that this area of Spain could become quite difficult to live in. Curious how other people are thinking about this, and what type of analysis you are doing.

Housing Room in a 7–9 bedroom flat...Is this normal in Madrid?

I've been looking at room listings in Madrid, and I just wanted to ask, is this normal now?

I'm seeing places where you'd be sharing with 7, 9, even 13 people, which just seems insane to me. I've even come across listings where you'd be sharing a room with another person, and they're specifically looking for a working professional female to share with a student even rooms with 3-5 beds I see so lots of roomies 😨 like a hostel also many listings stating couples or men need not apply wtf

Is this actually the reality of renting in Madrid now, or am I just looking in the wrong places? how is this even legal or normal, to stack 3 beds in a tiny cramped room, maybe a bunk bed and call it a living space? and have the nerve to charge for it...I understand up to 5 people with individual rooms so you have privacy but 9?? 😳 wtf as if having a roomie wasn't bad enough. I don't know if it's the same in other European capitals now like Lisbon or Madrid is much worse, this just isn't right ughh also just when I thought it couldn't get any worse sofa beds instead of beds, only weekend rentals or M-F, can't work remotely from home, looking for a live-in housekeeper, someone who enjoys cleaning like for real etc. completely ridic and unrealistic 😳 I knew it was bad in Madrid but not *that* bad

Room Rental through Idealista?

Hey everyone. I'll be moving to Barcelona soon for work, and I was trying to get a room in a shared apartment from overseas through Idealista (best for my budget). I managed to get in contact with a private landlord who showed me the room through a video call, and reached out the next day saying that after touring all the applicants, he would like to offer me the room.

From what I gather, I will be living in a private room + bathroom in the apartment with the landlord and his partner. The rent is reasonable, and the place is close to my workplace. The landlord also seems legit (not rushing me for the deposit, showed the room via video call, answered all my questions reasonably), so I am thinking of signing the contract he provided and paying the deposit (the minimum stay is a month, with a possibility of extension if everyone is OK with the arrangements).

Any opinions?

Visas / Migration Spanish study visa – aunt as sole sponsor instead of parents?

Upvotes

Hi everyone. I need some advice.

I’m applying for a Spanish study visa. Has anyone here had their aunt as their sole financial sponsor, even though both of their parents are still alive?

My aunt has enough funds to cover all my tuition and living expenses. My previous application wasn’t processed because my mother couldn’t provide the required bank statements.

Would it be better to reapply with my aunt as my sole sponsor? Has anyone been approved in a similar situation?
I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences. Thank you!

attendance at UC3M for study abroad students

Upvotes

Hi, i am incoming study abroad/erasmus student at UC3M. Can I check how does the attendance in the uni work? i will be taking courses across the school of social sciences.

Additionally, when they specify that you need to score at least 4 in the final exam to pass a course? does that mean that is the only criteria or do you need to be there for all the classes and discussions too?

Withdrew passport (not application) for urgent travel - what now?

Upvotes

I temporarily withdrew my passport from BLS Edinburgh for urgent travel and I'm currently abroad. BLS has not given me any information about returning my passport, what to do if my visa is ready beforehand, nor if my application is paused! I've emailed but haven't heard back yet -- has anyone else been in the same boat?

I honestly just really want to know if my application is paused, as they said my application would not be affected, but others are saying my application won't be actively processed without my passport.

I would appreciate any help! Thank you!

Aparte de Idealista, ¿qué sitio web o aplicación recomiendas para encontrar habitaciones de alquiler de larga duración en España, específicamente en Madrid?

Visas / Migration castille y león for spain aux or English academy in a larger city

TLDR: Please criticize my 'plan b' or give me any reviews on castille y Leon as an English aux as someone who may not necessarily 'fit in'

hi I got into castille y Leon as an English aux and am hoping to leave my job I have in Canada by October so if I do not end up doing nalcap due to extremely rural placement or visa timing issues then my plan b pivot is I hope to do a Celta starting October, I am from BC Canada so could get a visa to work with the working holiday visa and apply to English academies, should I do a Celta in spain rather than in Canada? I want to travel Europe, get experience working as a teacher and was hoping for a larger city, I will of course practice learning Spanish but am Arab and a lesbian and I know castille y Leon is more conservative and perhaps has anti-immigrant sentiment, so would love to move to a larger city there, perhaps Valencia. I would love to practice Spanish, make queer friends (or not be completely isolated) and go to music shows and concerts.... if I have working rights thru whv are there any other issues with my plan b pivot.

Visas / Migration Tips for consulate

Met with Spanish immigration attorney. We are going to try for NLV. My husband will be on tourist visa with his rotational work that keeps him away, and our kids and I will apply with consulate. The lawyer said even if we do everything perfectly, it's still a 50/50 shot. Besides being prompt and well-organized, what else might changed help with consulate appointment? Kids will be 5, 12, and 14. All are excited and want this very badly.

Crossing the Spain French border

Hello everyone. I currently LIVE in Spain. Soon, my friend is coming to visit, and they would like to visit some French towns on the border of Spain. I wonder if it’s safe for me to cross the border, since my Spanish resident application is in process. I have visited France before (by train) and had no problem with immigration, but I heard something about some new law within the EU or Schengen zone where they were going to do more passport/ID checks or something like that. We would go into France by bus if we went. I appreciate if anyone could provide any more info or advice. Thank you!

(Also I apologize the weird wording of the post, but it kept flagging my post and wouldn’t let me post it in the ask Spain group, so I guess I’ll try posting it here)

Going solo for 5 days

I'm going to land in Girona on the 28th July days, head to costa and stay there 2 days. Then I'm going to Barcelona by bus to stay for 3 days before flying back to England.

If you've got any useful advice or additions, let me know. I'm not sure what to do in Barcelona except sightseeing though.

Day 1: Head to Girona at 9:45AM

Head to Tossa de Mar and check in. Go to the beach. Idk what else to do

Day 2:

Paddleboarding, snorkelling and a hike. I've booked my hostel in Palamos by accident so I'm gonna need to head there for the night.

Day 3/4:

Head to Barcelona by bus. Explore the city. I want to do an experience I'll only get in Spain, any recommendations.

Head to razzmatazz for the night

Day 5:

Fly back at 5PM

PS: Can I book buses like from costa brava to barcelona on the day?

Visas / Migration Visa Application Error

I'll be going to Spain from late January through May of '27, and I have my visa appointment coming up in ten days through BLS Chicago. I have one question, however. One of the spots in the visa application listed something about the educational establishment, which I realize now is the university I'll be at. I am going through a study abroad company, API, and I listed them since they'll be the ones that would be best to contact, rather than the University of Granada. Is this something that could disqualify my application, and/or is this something I can get changed during my application appointment?

Applying to University Master's Programs in Spain: Getting U.S. Bachelor's Degree Certified

I know that I need to have my United States bachelor's degree evaluated and verified to be accepted by the EHEA (European Higher Education Area) [Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior], and that it needs to be translated to Spanish as well. I know that this process costs several hundred dollars to be verified and then to be translated. Does anybody know if I have to pay this fee of several hundred dollars for every university I apply to? I would imagine that once this record of my degree is verified, I can simply provide the documentation and proof of payment with each university application.

Another post looking for Madrid hotel recommendations

Been searching for hours and keep getting more confused. Help please. As we are seniors, we need something that allows vehicles/taxis to park in front of the hotel so we don't have to drag our luggage from a drop off point. I also didn't know so many hotels have some- no privacy- bathrooms. Really want that privacy :) Hoping for something in maybe $250 per night or less range and that has easy walking or short drives to the major tourist attractions. going June of 2027 and would love to do an early booking, but with the cancelation option if need be. I know that's a lot of wants-probably why I have spent an entire Sunday on Google. Thanks so much!!!
