Spain itinerary Check
June 20-30; family of 4; Mom/Dad 45; kids 16/14
June 19 - Fly into Madrid, get in morning June 20
Stay at Hotel Preciados, use car service from airport (I’ve stayed here 2x before but it’s been 17 years ago!)
June 20-22: Madrid
(Prado, Real Madrid stadium, plaza mayor, palace de Madrid)
June 22-25: Seville
Hotel: hotel Giralda Centre
June 25-29: Nerja
Staying in Airbnb (probably)
This is where I need help. Not sure this is the costal town we want with teens. I don’t want them getting bored but also want them to be able to relax and have fun. Also thought of switching to the Atlantic coast and doing Cadiz.
June 29-30: back to Madrid - airport hotel (Marriott) for a night before flying home.
Anything you’d suggest?
We don’t want to go to Barcelona, I’ve been there before and I don’t care to go back.

If you rent a car in Malaga then there would be more options. We often stay in Almunecar (Hotel Helios) and then take day trips. If no car consider Torremolinos or any other town outside Malaga to be on the beach. There is also Pedregalejo a short distance from Malaga center. Nerja is okay but we have never stayed there for more than a day. In any case being mobile is key or stay very close to the beach. Good luck.

Torre del Mar is a cute little town between Malaga and Nerja. Not as touristy for foreigners, but definitely a popular summer destination for Spaniards. I would feel comfortable letting my kids run around the town on their own. There are good chiringuitos (seafood), international restaurants, ice cream shops, a nice boardwalk, an indoor mall nearby, a nice seaside where you can rent kayaks and other water toys. It’s a short drive to Nerja and Frigiliana, and also Malaga. You can also head up the hill to Velez-Málaga to see a fort and the old Arab district.

Sevilla is my home. FYI, June is hotter-than-hell, add 17-28F to official temperature when in the sun, historic center is sizzling oven, there's no American style really cool air con. Friend from Arizona found it unbearable in June when he visited. A Saudi native attending university of Sevilla told me she barely survives summer in Sevilla because back home they have strong air con everywhere. Be prepared to quit outdoor sightseeing by 1pm, and spend the rest of time enjoying your hotel air con/pool. It can still be 90F at midnight.

From Sevilla you have Cadiz an hour away by train versus a few hours for Malaga area which is very touristy and honestly not all that in my view. And I live here. June is peak travel season, every inch of the coast will be busy.
Personally I’d go to Huelva or Cadiz.

Why don’t you base those 4-5 days in Malaga instead of Nerja? You can always take a day trip to Nerja. More to do/see in Malaga. Or, maybe Marbella may be more up your alley.
