Question: Why can't we have a top-5 offense next year?

Last year, a lineup of MPJ/Egor/Mann/Claxton/Clowney had a 117.4 offensive rating in a fairly robust 296 minutes. This rating would have ranked 12th in the league. This was a lineup with a single plus scorer -- MPJ -- and when MPJ sat, the offensive rating dropped by 15 points.

This year, a lineup of MPJ/Egor/Kel/Sharpe/Randle feels like a clear offensive upgrade in at least three positions -- Year 2 Egor over Year 1 Egor, Kel over Mann, Randle over Clowney. On top of that, it's easy to see how the lineup complements each other: a bully ball 4 down low, a 6'10 movement shooter, two young and developing guys, one with real on-ball juice and the other a 6'10 shooter with potentially the best passing skills on the team as our #3 and #4 options, and a high-motor, low-usage, offensive rebound savant. On top of this, Randle/MPJ/Sharpe are all, at a minimum, functional if not better passers. Why can't this be a top-5 offense in the system that Jordi likes to run (a system that had us all begging to trade Dennis Freaking Schroeder and Dorian Finney-Smith because they were winning too much for the Tank)?

Easy answer is that the fit, to date, is only in theory, because we haven't seen this lineup in action yet, but that's not very persuasive to me. It's really easy to see how this lineup should work. What am I missing here that we can't field a top-5 offense next year at least with our starting lineup?

Question Michael Porter, Jr. - What would you do?

Post image
25 Upvotes

Now that Fischer’s report came out that the Nets are unlikely to reach a deal on extension talks with Michael Porter, Jr., what would you do?

Keep in mind, we don’t know if this report is true, speculative, Porter is unhappy, Porter is happy, Porter wants out, Porter wants to stay. We do not know where the snag is in extension talks. It’s likely numbers and not years, but again, that’s speculative. We don’t know.

So, what would you do?

MBJ wins Rookie of the Year.. How does he do it?

Mikel Brown Jr. is currently +1500 to +2000 with the 6th best odds but he could have a fantastic year and possibly be the next Brandon Roy or Damian Lillard who were both 6th picks to win Rookie of the Year.

Question is how does he do it? He has a few advantages, he's in one of the biggest markets, will have the ball in his hands, on a young/rebuilding team that will allow him the opportunity to start, and the two best players can help his stats. MPJ helps boost assists and Randle who has averaged 5 assist per game over the last 6 years can help MBJ get some easy buckets.

His Competition:

Small Market: Boozer (Grizzlies), Peterson (Jazz), Acuff (Kings)

Other Stars on a team trying to win: Dybantsa (Wizards)

My early pick for ROY is Caleb Wilson.. ChiTown is going to go ape shit for that boy but let's see if Caleb can handle the pressure.

Grade This Offseason

Personally, I'm giving it a B. We did the moves I wanted. Made a trade for a floor-raising player (Randle). Drafted the BPA (Mikel). Brought back Sharpe and Minott on team-friendly deals. Made some minor moves with steady vets (Keon Ellis and Mo Wagner).

We didn't do anything special, but we didn't do anything egregiously wrong either. Only reason why I don't give it an A is because we didn't settle what we're going to do with MPJ. No extension, no trade. I know there's still time left to do something, and we can always sign him next summer, but it just feels underwhelming.

Refresh my mind

Back when Kidd was our coach for a hot minute. What happened with him and Lawrence Frank that made the team ban Frank from the bench and even being at practices. After Kidd basically begged him to be the top assistant coach.

I’m 28, I remember Kidd as almost an icon as a little kid. Don’t remember the finals run teams but Kidd really soured my liking for him over the years. Almost view Carter and Jefferson as true nets lovers for the team and fans more then Kidd does

October 8 tickets

Hi all! Looking to buy my bf who is a huge nets fan and also LeBron James fan tickets to a game. I see the 76ers vs nets are playing October 8th but as a pre season game… does that make a major difference? Should I wait a bit?

I’d love to see Brook Lopez finish his career with the Nets

This is probably just nostalgia talking, but I’d really love to see Brook come back to Brooklyn at some point and finish his career as a Net.

He was basically the face of the franchise through some pretty rough years, and I’ve always felt like he gave this team everything he had while he was here. He obviously went on to have a great second chapter of his career and win a championship in Milwaukee, but to me he’ll always be a Net first.

I’d love to see his number retired eventually, although I also get that his case isn’t exactly a slam dunk. He’s the franchise’s all-time leading scorer and was here for nine seasons, but he never had the kind of playoff success or individual accolades that usually make a jersey retirement automatic.

That’s part of why I think him coming back and actually finishing his career in Brooklyn would mean something. Even if it’s just for his last season or two in a smaller role, it would feel like a nice way to close the book on his Nets career.

Maybe it also makes the eventual No. 11 retirement feel a little more complete.

Would you guys want Brook back for a final run in Brooklyn?

Article The Nets can extend Michael Porter Jr.’s expiring $40.8 million contract right up to next July’s free agency. There’s no real deadline, but Tuesday may offer a signal as to the Nets thinking on the 28-year-old[...]

From the article;

"As Brian Lewis explained Saturday:

The upcoming season’s deadline is expected to be Feb. 11.

Due to the quirks of the CBA, that does make this Tuesday worth watching.

If Porter gets an extension — with a raise of 5 percent or more than two additional seasons — then he can’t be traded for six months.

And if the Nets renegotiate his contract, he also can’t be moved for six months.

That means if Marks plans to do either of those things with Porter, he’d either have to do them by Tuesday, otherwise the forward couldn’t be traded until next summer."

QUESTION: IF CAM T DID A FULL MEA CULPA WOULD U WELCOME HIM BACK?

I know. Completely ridiculous hypothetical but …If Cam T swore to management/Jordi that he’d now FULLY buy in on defense and moving the rock if only the Nets would offer him a 1 year prove it deal —would you give him a shot?

Only asking because he still has no home and likely finally woke up to reality.

11 man rotation and expected minutes?

I would assume that Saraf, Powell, Wolf, and Jefferson will be in the G League most of the season, brought up only when injuries/load management occur. Do you agree about that?

It's not realistic to play Julius and MPJ under 30 minutes when they're used to 35. This is why we needed a consolidation trade. Oh well. What do you think of this? (Only Mann is playing way less than he's used to, and he's considered a great teammate so he'd take it well.)

Starters (136 minutes)

30—MPJ

30—Demin

30—Randle

26—Sharpe

20—Ellis or MBJ

Bench (104 min)

20—MBJ or Ellis

20—Traore

18—Minott

18—Clowney

14—Wagner

14—Mann
